It works off-island, too.

So Locke is responsible for the death of another young man. He tells Cooper that the son is onto him and the poor kid ends up dead. Nice one Locke. He was right, bad things do happen to people who hang around with him. Locke's flashbacks keep making him look more and more pathetic, but yet he still has this tremendous idealism because somehow he's able to tap into the powers of the island and Ben can't.

I was wondering why Locke gave Cooper a chance to break up. Why not just tell the lady and her son, and achieve the same thing? He tipped off Cooper, basically, which helped Cooper form a new plan - eliminate them.

They are also showing Locke to be a good guy. I dont know how you guys could miss this..thats why he was healed and Ben isnt. In fact that was one of the main themes in this epi. Ben is a deciever...Locke is a good man. They showed it all the way through..Him helping Ben into the wheelchair, Him saying he is sorry to Alex, Him protecting the woman Cooper was trying to con, and at the same time showing compassion on his father by giving him a chance to walk away.

Watch the episodes..not just a few lines.

With all of his actions on the island, Locke is no longer as good a man as he once was. Though he is just as easily conned.

unless we consider the word "good" to be a relative term depending on perspective and point of view.

Exactly! It's not as simple as watching the episodes vs. a few lines. We all perceive things based on our own world view, no different than the Losties and the Others.

I wonder if we'll find out what became of Helen. Locke could use her voice of reason.

unless we consider the word "good" to be a relative term depending on perspective and point of view.

even if there is some fancy procedure that uses guidelines or rules to determine the overall definitions of two words, lets say good and evil, and then use those two words as catagories in which you could place each individual to be judged. that would just be for the tv show. add to that the specific opinions of each and every viewer. they would have to decide even further, and decide if they even agree with the catagories created by TPTB.

so, until there is a majority of minds that agree with each other (both in the show and out), we just have to make up our own individual minds about good and evil, and go fishing for peers in here.

This is kind of random, but did you ever explain what happened after Locke was working at that marijuana commune and the kid that he brought turned out to be a cop?

and on that note... while I agree that Locke is an awesome character, sometimes I am unsure about his actions. Sometimes I think he's convinced of something so much that he will act irrationally and mess things up. For example, with the kid on the commune, Locke totally had no idea and really trusted the kid. Another example, him breaking the computer in the hatch so they couldn't enter the numbers and it imploding. Also, him having to do with Boone's death. While I understand that even though there were negative consequences it might have been necessary for other more important things to happen, but sometimes I think he can be kind of irrational.
