I think the look in Locke's eyes is going to haunt me for a long time.

Heartbreaking perfection.

He looked so vulnerable and small and... lost.

I agree. It was painful to watch. Terry O'Quin does an amazing job with those scenes.

Terry portrayed Locke in such a brilliant light tonight..that scene summed up Locke's life to that point...amazing.

He was brilliant in that scene. I was blinking back the tears.

I actually had to stop the DVR and pause because I needed it to last longer. It was a silent encapsulation of his pre-island life and to me, it beats the reveal in Walkabout when we first learned he was paralyzed.

He was brilliant in that scene. I was blinking back the tears.

They'd already stomped on my heart with the Jack/Kate stuff, so I was teary enough at that point. But this opened the floodgates.

I'm such a girl.

Yes, and without hope. It's no wonder he doesn't want to leave the island. What does he have to go "home" to?

That scene was amazing! It was heartbreaking when he just burst out crying. It made me think of how I would feel in his situation. It would just be completely terrifying! I liked how the man told him not to tell himself what he can't do. Great foundation for Locke's new philosophy on life.

If anything that scene made it abundantly clear as to why Locke is so adamant about staying on the Island. Who wouldn't.

If that scene doesn't win Terry the Emmy, something's seriously wrong! I felt the dread & dispair he was feeling as he looked down being carried to it - "If I go in that, I'll never come out!"

Terry is just such an amazing actor. His, and only his flashbacks make me cry like a baby.

God's tom: I agree! Hopefully Shatner won't win it again.. he was seriously robbed that time.

Totally....Terry nailed that scene....the pain as Locke looked down at his "new reality" was poignant and heartbreaking

It was like watching hands close down around your neck... the sheer reality of what has happened to him.

I agree it was an amazing performance by TOQ.

Yep he hit it out of the park in that episode. Awesome performance. Great icon by the way Rodimus :-D

It was an intense moment to be sure. And yet we know that that moment of fear and vulnerability would eventually lead to the strong warrior we have now. I agree, Terry should get an Emmy nod and win.

In addition to TOQ's performance, I liked the way it was filmed. The handheld camera going towards the wheelchair, it felt like YOU were the one being put in there for the rest of your life. It really allowed me to feel something similar to what John Locke must have been feeling at that moment...disbelief, panic, anguish. I've heard some say the fb's get old. I think they're what keep the show so poignant, at least from my persective. Walk a mile...

Good observation - it was filmed excellently.

I also liked Locke's physical therapist - I wonder if his attitude ends up rubbing off on Locke ("Don't tell me what I can't do!")

He reminded me also of the angel / chiropractor in the "purgatory" movie Jacob's Ladder. The chiropractor causes the protagonist pain, but it's necessary pain - it helps him move through his purgatorial "journey." I hope we see more of the PT!

If Terry O'Quinn doesnt win an Emmy for this episode we know the "fix is in".
BRILLIANT WORK

I was thinking the same exact thing ...that was an excellent way to really nail home why he is so adamant about his destiny on the island.

With that being said....how exactly does Ben know that Locka has "bonded" with the island?

Everything about that scene in the hospital was amazing, from the lighting, to the dialogue, to the cinematography, to the incredible acting.

TOQ brought me to tears. Literally, sitting in my bed hysterical crying. I think that I felt my heart break when he gripped the blanket when the Physical Therapist first came into the room and announced that he was going in the chair.

That scene killed me. Just amazing.

I can't add much that hasn't already been said on this thread. The old pro did a great job with last night's material, and this scene in particular was particularly well done. Bravo.

I love Terry O'Quin on this show. His portrayal of Locke and the character itself is some of the best "television" I have witnessed in a long time.

Totally agree with this. He rarely goes over the top with his acting and always draws you into the moment and you're right there with him feeling the same emotions that he's feeling.

It was a great scene, one of Locke's best so far.... strangely enough, it reminded me of the end of 'Revenge of the Sith', when Vader's mask is finally lowered onto Anakin's face during surgery....

I'm crying again just thinking about the scene and reading your posts which make me think of that scene... He's got to get the Emmy for this..

He nailed that feeling of not wanting to get in the chair at all, mixed with the loss of control at being hoisted and carried, and the terror of what lies ahead... Then the full-on despair of coming to terms that your life's been irreparably changed. I have experience with this and can tell you - he nailed every emotion of the moment.

i was definitely tearing up too...i love how LOST can do that to you...if you'd never seen the show before and have only heard about it you would never think it would be able to evoke such strong emotions. The Rose & Bernard reunion especially was tear jerking happiness, sentimental or not, i love those scenese

For me, this sums up Locke's motivation for the actions we've seen him take over the last couple of weeks with blowing up the communications station and now blowing up the sub. He really doesn't have anything to go home to, for him the island is where he belongs.

Absolutely frickin' brilliant! TOQ always is... he's done some of the best work I've ever seen, and that too on a TV show! I admit, I cried the first time I saw that heartwrenching scene... and the second. The emotion in his eyes... how he can convey so much without saying a single word... incredible.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. For me, it's the actors, even more than the plot etc that make LOST such a fantastic, top notch, ground breaking show. TPTB should be commended for this, if nothing else... they've got together a stellar cast... and I agree with the Poster who said the FBs make LOST even more poignant. Knowing the turmoil these characters suffered pre-Island makes us that much more invested in their fates.

OTT, slightly, but there have been so many INCREDIBLE emotional moments throughout the series! Just a few of my favorites:

FBYE: the break up scene between Des and Pen: worthy of the best directed film.
TTID: Hurley's goodbye to his dad, and that last shot of him in the van.
TM: Charlie's rejection of the heroin the first time around, the moment Rose prayed with him.
EMFH: Kate and Jack's meeting during capture, when she tells him they're going to kill Sawyer.
All of Jack's FBS with Sara
Jin and Sun: seeing life from different perspectives, understandng and sympathizing with both.

I could go on and on.
Fantastic job in MFT, TOQ!

I agree, Terry is probably the most amazingly talented actor I've ever watched perform. I've told him a few times how awed I am at his facial expressions. That scene also haunted me for several days.

I have to agree, they totally captured what it would be like to be faced with a life time of using a wheel chair, it was like i was entering that chair with John. Great camera work and even better acting!!

That was definitely one of Terry's best moments, right up there with his first "don't tell me what I can't do speech", and yelling at the Island in "Deus Ex Machina"
