my timeline: working backwards...

1) he is in wheelchair, plays war games, wants to go on walkabout, gets him to australia

2) depressed, gets involved with 'dad' again, gets shoved out of a window, survives and is paralyzed

3) loses helen when he stalks 'dad'....'dad' fakes death

4) meets helen in group

5) gets conned by 'mom' and 'dad'....meets/likes 'dad', gives kidney.....gets hosed when 'dad' takes kidney and leaves him

the above timeline, i am relatively sure of.....sry about not naming the epi's

the 2 flashbacks i have a problem with are:

1) northern california (IMO this must be early 90's and the oldest flashback)

2) property appraiser for sayid's love......

the problems....

a) at the beginning of tonights epi....he is getting 'disability'......presumably, from 'depression'......is this immediately after his 'dad' leaves him....if so, why should he get gov't assistence for 'depression'?

b) he was in the military (but this must have been years ago.....20+)....how does this fit with what we know of him....particularly since this would be before he was in nocal at a place that is a drug operation.....odd?

c) it was assumed that locke worked for hurley's box company.....but the timeline does not seem to fit.....the 4 years paralyzed would hardly be 'wasted time'....where else besides a phone/computer job can he work?.....perhaps 2 stints with this 'company'?

d) lastly, when kate/sayid and him leave on this 'rescue jack' expedition, locke seems to have had his own agenda the whole time......IMO this means he had somehow acquired more info than we know him to have (this would be while jack/kate/sawyer are captives on island B).....perhaps, the hatch explosion gave him some of the powers that desmond seems to possess.....but then why not charlie? or eko?

northern california (IMO this must be early 90's and the oldest flashback)Actually, if you're referring to Further Instructions, most people believe it is after Helen left him. Much like Jack did after the fallout with his dad and Sarah, Locke completely abandoned his old life for something new.

property appraiser for sayid's love......This was in the second episode with Helen. He found out his father was still alive because Cooper was watching Locke and Nadia from across the street.

at the beginning of tonights epi....he is getting 'disability'......presumably, from 'depression'......is this immediately after his 'dad' leaves him....if so, why should he get gov't assistence for 'depression'?This is the first time I've heard of getting disability for depression, but if it's medically diagnosed and one is being treated and undergoing therapy for it, I guess it seems reasonable.

he was in the military (but this must have been years ago.....20+)....how does this fit with what we know of him....particularly since this would be before he was in nocal at a place that is a drug operation.....odd?He was never in the military. In Walkabout Randy says he went through Locke's file and never found any military service. The "colonel" nickname is something he had with his co-worker when they played Risk during lunch.

it was assumed that locke worked for hurley's box company.....but the timeline does not seem to fit.....the 4 years paralyzed would hardly be 'wasted time'....where else besides a phone/computer job can he work?.....perhaps 2 stints with this 'company'?Not sure quite what you're getting at here. Ben called the 4 years wasted time because he worked a boring job and turned into pretty much a loser (let's face it, spending $80 to talk to a phone sex operator just to pretend he still had a relationship with Helen). In other words, whatever pride he had left in his life was shattered by Cooper's attack which resulted in his paralysis.

lastly, when kate/sayid and him leave on this 'rescue jack' expedition, locke seems to have had his own agenda the whole time......IMO this means he had somehow acquired more info than we know him to have (this would be while jack/kate/sawyer are captives on island B).....perhaps, the hatch explosion gave him some of the powers that desmond seems to possess.....but then why not charlie? or eko?I think it's a lot simpler than this. After the hatch implosion, John's faith in the island was renewed-- faith that was initially challenged by Ben when he was "Henry Gale." He realized he never should have doubted his instincts about the island, and since then he has functioned entirely on instinct. All he knew when he set out with Sayid was that he wanted to follow the compass bearing given by Eko's stick and see where it led them.
