They made it seem as if the submarine was the only way off the island. What about Desmond's boat that the other's took?

I think the theory that has circulated about finding the island is correct-- that you can't reach it with an ordinary boat, but that you can underwater with a submarine that follows sonar pings.

Is that based on known info or just spec? Where can I find that thread?

Sun shot what's her name on the boat...but I don't remember it being destroyed. Wouldn't surprise me though. It was at the Palla Ferry dock I think. And there's that catamaran floating around somewhere. If everything eventually comes back to shore, then I suppose that boat will too. I still don't get why Sawyer let it go.

I agree but why can't Jack and Juliet still take the sailboat and leave the island just like Michael did. Why is the sub now the only way off? It was about leaving--neither the boat nor the sub can get back anyway because the sonar no longer functions. Good question. Locke, Kate and Sayid all know the Others have the sailboat, even if Jack doesn't.

I don't remember it being destroyed. I remember Ben had the others steal the boat, but I don't remember him destorying it.

Information is knowledge. If everyone thinks the submarine is the only way off the island then that makes it a much bigger prize in everyone's eyes. It is just another way Ben is manipulating people and playing his cards close to his vest!

But I remember now, Juliet knows about the sailboat too! She was there when Colleen told Ben about it and Ben told Colleen to go get the boat. Then Colleen was shot in the attempt. She has to know they got the boat.

You're right. Even if she wasn't there Juliet seemed to be on the inside at that point anyway, so you would think she knows about the boat.

Desmond sailed in circles when he tried to leave the island. For some reason, you can't escape the island by wind power alone.

I disagree. I don't think Desmond knew where to go in order to escape the island. Remember, ben gave Michael a specific heading to follow in order to leave. Desmond did not have that piece of the puzzle.

I agree I t hink you need a certain heading and/or coordinates to get away from the island. Also what happened to the boat that left to go back to othersville?

It was the episode after Jack saved Juliette from the "trial"....

Wasn't that some kind og big boat...?

I think either there is a certain set of coordinates (bearing 325) that lets people leave the island, or Ben was full of it and Michael and Walt are still on the island ;)

I think this episode made it clear the sub is the only way on or off consistently. Meaning either michael and walt met up with a sub, or they didn't leave.

Maybe this boat issue will be brought up next time. This seems like too big a plot hole for them not to address it. We've seen that the Others have lots of boats.

I'm guessing after the submarine blows, Jack says to Ben, so just give us another boat to leave on and Ben makes up some reason to say he can't do that or it won't work.

Haven't the producers said we haven't seen the last of Walt and Michael?

If they didn't leave that would be one way, or maybe they show up in the real world?

Ben seemed pretty intent on keeping his word, so I think Michael and Walt did leave the island successfully.
