I wonder now if this was a foreshadowing. Maybe N&P will be clawing their way to the surface as the tide rushes in and washes away the sand, uncovering them before they suffocate to death.
We know from the past that when Locke says something about the nature of the island, he's always right. They won't stay buried for sure, but will they live through it?

Otherwise why would they bother to bring two new characters in mid-series, only to kill them off right away? If they end up really dying, then they were no more than vehicles with which to tie other events together and answer some questons. They were writers tools.
I think at least one of them will survive.

I found that bit a little annoying. Obviously this was supposed to be Season One Locke talking, and he talked in his typical, mysterious yet sagely, Season One Locke way. Obviously the writers still know how to "write" Locke. CAN WE PLEASE START WRITING HIM LIKE THIS CONSISTENTLY KTHX.

I admit to liking the ending as it stands...so many theories that characters die once they have 'closure'. Nikki finally realized Paulo was 'there for her.' He even tried to 'save' her by telling her the spider was crawing up her leg.
Such a Romeo and Juliet moment. :)

In their case, I think they'll stay buried. But I don't think much will be staying buried on this Island for the rest of the season. Tonight was a good start. The secret of the "buried" diamonds didn't stay buried. The secret behind Sun's "kidnapping" didn't stay buried. Only the beginning, methinks. . . .

I think that's what I've been trying to get at. Our prophetic Locke . . . (and yes, the wicked awesome Season One Locke). I imagine all kinds of things will be unearthed by the end of Season Three.

Who knows how moved Nikki was by that. The only thing she tried to do before passing out was bury the diamonds again. A big waste of time if you ask me, she should have ran for help immeadietly.

So yeah, Vincent. I've been waiting for that dog to have his own flashback episode. It's just too much heavy sand for me to believe they'll be able to dig themselves out.

Not only would they have already suffocated, they would be crushed to death. With all that sand on top of them (I figured the weight in another thread over 11,000 lbs) there is no way they could survive.

after reading this, i cant get Creepshow out of my head. the movie where leslie nielson buries ted danson and his lover in the sand and high tide kills them and then they come back as zombies and kill him. hope thats not what we can look forward to or swayer and hurley are numbered!

Surviving a plane breaking in two in mid-flight, surviving an 8 story freefall, surviving terminal cancer.....this is LOST, no way they could have survived ANY of those things. :biggrin: Not a stretch to think they will survive. Given the story line of this episode, Locke's comment was far too pointed to be taken lightly.

That's a good question....I could picture N&P (at least Nikki) digging to the surface and out of the jungle appears Vincent digging up the graves. Hurley & Sawyer left the scene pretty quickly after they finished burying the two......you never know! ;)

Considering the sheer amount of issues and secrets that our Losties have (all of the past murders and cons in particular), it is interesting to imagine them eventually seeing the light on the island. Sometimes I see the island serving as a place where one will eventually seek contrition.

I think that it is really ironic that Locke is the one to have said that things don't stay buried. He has one of the biggest secrets on the island, and I think that 'Par Avion' proved that he would go pretty far to protect that secret.

Keeping my fingers crossed that his statement and Pikki's Poe-esque death does not hint at a zombie season.

STTTTOPPP! You're all hurting my brain\I hope, IF they wash up/out at all, that they do it so just dead, dead, dead. It might be interresting to see that Nikki had jammed the diamonds in her pocket, cause they did kinda zoom in on them as Sun trickled them over her legs.

Was that the name of the movie - I have been trying to find it since I saw it - I was searching Alfred Hitchcok for some reason I thought it was in Amazing Stories that they were buried alive and watching each other die on different parts of the beach as the tide came in -

Well, I'll be wrong right along with you because that is what I took from the comment. And a lot was exposed in this epi - finally!

I'm sure the sand was too heavy for Nikki and Paulo to dig out from but maybe they were able to move some, enough so that if Vincent dug them up they would be in different positions than when they were buried. That would surely get a " Dude! They weren't dead!" out of Hurley. ;)
