I think that was the point of him walking by Paulo and saying what he said about burying something far enough inland where the surf won't unbury it. It was foreshadowing.

So now all we need to do is figure out how/why the stones get into their hands when they're moved to the caves.

But, I honestly think Nikki and Paulo are Adam and Eve. I'm also curious why Rose and Bernard weren't in the episode w/all the other old Losties? Did Desmond switch something during his time looping episode?

Final episode: Surviving Losties get home. Camera flashes back to island. Plane crashes again? Fade out.....

I don't know about them being the "Adam & Eve", but I like the idea that Locke's statement was foreshadowing - I hadn't made that connection.

It refers to many things in this ep as well:

the diamonds didn't stay buried at the falls
Paulo's secret doesn't stay "buried"
Sawyer and Charlie's secret gets "uncovered"
the diamonds don't stay buried where Nikki left them

and now, will Nikki and Paulo stay buried?

I don't think Locke's comment was foreshadowing of anything. It was simply showing that the Pikki Gump story had reached the point in season 1 just before everyone had to move their stuff because the tide was rising.
