View Full Version : Clementine is not just a con

Well, in this ep Cassidy tells Kate that she is pregnant. So, I guess this settles the whole "Clementine is just a con" theory? I don't think that Cassidy would have any motive to lie to Kate about it.

It was a good theory, though, and I believed it to be very likely.

Instead, I guess that Sawyer is really a daddy. I think that the scene with him holding Aaron toward the end was to emphasize that.

Yeah, I was 50/50 on it after EMFH. I wonder if a future Sawyer flashback will show him getting out of jail and meeting Clementine.

Tracing Kate's flashbacks, I think there would be time for this. Since Diane wasn't yet sick in this episode, this took place before Born to Run, which took place before Whatever the Case May Be, I Do and Tabula Rasa. Plenty of time for little Clemmy to be born and Sawyer to try to connect with her.

Yeah, you're right on the timeline Jenny.
I totally thought that Cass was conning Sawyer, but I'm kind of glad that she wasn't, since I love the idea of Sawyer as a daddy, especially seeing him with Aaron.

Why do you think that?

I thought that too as I was watching it. Perhaps she's the one that found out why Kate wasn't "good". I don't have much to back that up, though, just a gut hunch.

This is true given Kate's wacky 1990s clothes plus the time necessary for her to date and marry the cop in Florida.

I just rewatched the episode last night. One thing that stuck out to me was the scene where Kate asks Cassidy why she wants to help and Cass replies, "One of us deserves something good."

This plays directly into the Buddhist themes of Dharma -- the middle way -- and Karma, which I believe smokey to be an incarnate entity thereof.

WHY would Cassidy or Kate feel they deserve anything good?

Kate murdered her mom's husband and as mom pointed out for better or worse she loved him. She was directly involved in getting her childhood sweetheart killed. She's run little cons and grifts while on the run. AND she married a guy under a false identity and then left him. She's built up a huge boatload of bad Karma. IMO she doesn't deserve Jack, as in Jack shi*!

And Cassidy doesn't deserve anything either. I just have two things to say about her:

1- There is no honor among thieves -- she got taken, but what the HELL did she think was gonna happen when she hangs with a grifter

2- You mess with the bull and you get the horns -- I have zero sympathy for Cassidy. She got what she deserved. She's just lucky she wasn't on flight 815.

oh come on youre being a bit unfair..Its so easy to judge until one finds themselves in the tough spot. And as for the ''deserve'' thingy, isnt what everyone thinks for their own? That they deserve to be loved,to be happy ,not t die tragically...you name it?As our wise people tend to say ''hey,i dont *deserve* this''
So i guess its all just a matter of sayings!
On the other hand, the whole universe justice ,course courrection theme is indeed Buddhist oriented so it could have something to do with all this hell!
Come on,we deserve more action!Bring it on!;)

There's one thing about having self-esteeem and self respect and wanting and deserving things from life. But both Kate and Cassidy have committed crimes on a HUGE SPIRITUAL level -- ripping people off, murder, deceit. These have huge Karmic impact and to think they still deserve "good things" is ludicrous. They haven't taken repsonsibility for their own actions and until they do -- until they REPENT -- they will receive nothing good.

Kate reminded me alot of Eko. She doesn't think she did anything wrong. Well I think smokey will have something to say about that.

And this is an interesting point .. why hasn't Smokey reacted to Kate the way it reacted to Eko? She hasn't been scanned like him or seen images like Eko did. Is that going to come later?

We don't know enough about Juliet to have any conclusive answers BUT my theory is that smokey intended to scan Kate. But Juliet happened to be in the way and I think was scanned instead. Whether or not she has some huge skeleton in her closet remains to be seen.

But theyre both really tortured souls,Eight! Please dont forget that. All our losties are really vulnerable and tortured people and Kate is amongst the most hardcore in the hardship list.A conversation between two miserable women whove hurt and gotten hurt a lot in their lives where they talk about ''deserving something good at last'' is as common as Sunday school!(Happy Easter everyone)
