Does it seem that Smokie was *really interested* in Kate and Juliet? Are they attracting it? Is it just Kate? Or is it now both of them, since Juliet seems to be "marked" and "left behind" now...? What gives with the almost continuous Smoke attacks on the two women?

I thought it was Juliet that was attracting smokie... Kate's always trekking off into the Jungle, why would it all of a sudden want her now?

I think you're right. It has had plenty of chances to come after Kate, but Juliet obviously has been safely behind the fencing until now.

What were the two of them talking about before it showed up both times? Maybe that will give us a hint?
But it does seem more likely that it would be after Juliet.

The question is, is Smokey coming after Juliet because she is marked, or because she is new to Smokey?

I thought it might have been coming after Kate but she pulled Juliet in behind her, so it scanned Juliet instead. Just an idea.
Or it was coming after Juliet because she was finally unprotected by the fence?

Juliet says she doesnt know what the Somke Monster is, so maybe it was created or started by the Dharma Initiative as a 'security system' against the Others.

I think it's interesting that during the last two weeks Smokie has made an appearance (audibly/visually or both) when one of the characters has made a poor "moral" decision. Last week it was Nikki poisoning Paulo and this week it was Kate dislocating Juliet's shoulder. IMO, Cerberus is negatively attracted to those that are not considered "good". Locke's comments to Kate seem to indicate that she isn't considered good because of her past. A connection? Possibly.
