If the others have truly gone underground, then that means they have a way of manipulating the entire island. even though we don't know that much about smokey, one could speculate that Smokey is a product of Dharma, due to the specific defense system setup around the barracks. Honestly, if you were to live underground would u not want a giant black cloud of smoke that can cause massive explosions, rip down trees, mutilate/break a human, appear in the form of another person/animal, scare the living S%$& out of you, guarding your island while ur safe underground viewing everything through its eyes.

And I seriously doubt Smokey was made by DHARMA. Their technology was from the 70's. Smokey is a feature of the Island. But I can see why DHARMA would want to protect against it.

My first thought was that smokey was profiling Juliette. Downloading her memories into its own storage bank.

Everyone thinks that smokey can download people's memory or thoughts. Do you think that the others are getting their information from smokey. Maybe they can read what smokey downloads from people. Thats how the other's know everything about everyone on the island. They don't have the internet or a quick way to get background information on people. Juliet lied about the handcuffs, and probably about being left behind. So she is probably lying about not knowing about smokey. What do you think?

The brainwashing may NOT be a product of DHARMA, as I have seen no connection between Jacob and DHARMA. The room Karl was found in, could very well of been a simple viewing room.

And I seriously doubt Smokey was made by DHARMA. Their technology was from the 70's. Smokey is a feature of the Island. But I can see why DHARMA would want to protect against it.

Sure DHARMA's technology was made in the 70s, but I've always wondered why they chose to use a Sonic Fence system instead of a wall/wire or cameras. Now it is clear, the specific design of the security system was to ensure the containment of Smokey. There is no way to be sure what defense to use against a creature such as Smokey, so given the fact that the fence has been there for as long as DHARMA has been on the island, leads one to believe that Smokey and DHARMA are connected somehow.

Then again, in Enter 77, the interactive video John stumbled upon after winning the chess game shows that DHARMA is well aware of the other inhabitants on the island and has taken the necessary steps to defend in case of an emergency. That being said, one could speculate that the relationship between DHARMA and the hostiles could of been peaceful for a time, until the "Purge" occurred or another event forced them to assume their defensive posture. One thing is for sure, DHARMA is aware of how to defend against Smokey, and are willing to sacrifice their stations incase of an emergency (failsafe in the swan, c4 at the flame)

There is no direct evidence linking the others to an underground world, however, one could speculate that there is a series of tunnels used to connect all the stations on each island. In the swan, a tunnel has been blocked using cinder blocks and concrete. In the pearl Ben and Juliette waltz into the viewing room via tunnel (not the ladder Paulo used). If Sayid and Kate had more time in the Flame, they might have discovered a tunnel rigged with c4, or at least and entrance way to one. The blast door that closes on John when the Swan takes on a life of it's own, illustrates a series of passageways that connect each station. Also when Smokey attempted to pull John into the ground, proves that there is activity that occurs below the surface of the island.

The flashes we have seen before on the show, just not in slow motion and not from that angle. It seems to be learning something about the Losties, maybe this is the Official Karma Machine(registered trademark) of the Island. But I am under the impression that Smokey just gathers the info and does not make the decision to kill, which is undoubtedly what it was trying to do with Kate and Juliet. So if Smokey is apparantly gathering and transferring information about the characters, then who does it go to for the decision making? Who receives the info and judges our Losties?
