When we first met Juliet through her flashback, she was a mousy woman who could not stand up to her exhusband, now she is a ninja fighter who is as devious as Ben ... what has happened to her these past 3 years to make her so tough?

ahh, yes i think this is truly the question of the hour! i sense a flashback episode at the end of the season for her which will explain how she got these trained fighting skills and how she is a plant from the Others.

Perhaps the same thing that turned Locke into the great white hunter with unlimited knowledge on survival skills.

Perhaps the same "connection" with the Island.

Man, that was wicked, wasn't it? Kate has finally met her match in the "tough chick" department.

Yeah really, and what caused her to dislocate her shoulder three times prior to this?

I was thinking the same thing about Juliet. How did she turn so bad *** from the meak woman in her flashback?

I expect a flashback episode with a 10 minute training montage complete with Apollo Creed and "Gonna Fly Now".

According to the latest podcast:

Next week's episode "One of Them" is another Juliet flashback. I'm looking forward to learning more about her past!

Maybe she's become tougher because she's had to adapt to a more hostile environment. She's probably had to learn some manipulation skills to survive in Ben's world. Our losties have had to learn some new skills in order to survive...hunting/fishing/cleaning fish/sleeping outside...
It seems, from what we've seen so far, that Juliet has been spared living in those kinds of harsh conditions, but the Other's community is far from benign.

From what I've learned of the natural world, adaptability is a sign of intelligence and raises an individual's chance of survival in a new environment. As an intelligent woman, Juliet has adapted in order to survive. I mean, she didn't have anyone else other than the Others to depend on once she was brought to the island. And her terms of employment were very shady. I had the impression that she was coerced and manipulated into going.

Or, as many have good reason to believe, this could all be a ruse, and Juliet is a plant. In any case, I can't wait for another Juliet episode.

Clearly she's put a lot of time into Martial arts/etc since her arrival on the Island. As Sawyer noted when on Alcatraz all of the others seemed trained to a degree.

I was thinking of "You're Gonna Need a Montage" from Team America.

I tend to agree she's learned this on the Island. Such skills may be necessary there as opposed to general life in America. But don't base all of this on her inability to deal with her ex-husband. Psycological control by her ex could turn a ninja into a mouse. It is possible she had these skills back then. I mean what was she going to do when her ex brings in the bimbo and then demands she turn out the light? Kick him in the face and do a ninja flip?

Remember how a wreck she told Alpert she was. She couldn't lead anything. Yes she is different, but maybe she's just recovered from her divorce.

She, like all the Others we've met so far, seems to have the sort of basic self-defense training one gets before going into a war zone...

Maybe she wanted more than anything to be strong, and the island made her strong.

Awesome idea dude. I think in a way we can say this for all the losties; Locke can walk, Kate doesn't have to run, Sawyer can make friends, etc.... I wonder if it's just a device or some kind of tangible box-related phenomena??

Juliet reminds me so much of Locke in this way. Both were kind of wimpy, submissive characters before coming to the island, and yet now Juliet is some sort of martial arts master, obviously very strong, and I think quite clever and manipulative too. Locke on the island is confident and highly skilled at hunting, tracking etc. They are both completely different characters on the island.

REMEMBER!

Juliet ha the key to the hand cuffs all along. It was not until she felt scared that she pulled it out. She is not with them, but rather with them for a mission.....
