View Full Version : Cerberus and Smokey
Klungar 04-05-2007, 12:45 AM Did anyone else notice that Smokey seemed to break up into three different sections while chasing Juliet and Kate, which then rejoined to attack the fence? Thought it was nice that they made Smokey actually act like Cerberus, above his obvious guard-dog qualities.
KingMe122o 04-05-2007, 12:47 AM I noticed that too. Cool.
Locked_In 04-05-2007, 02:15 AM Oh, I love it. Fits in great with the theory that the Bunker people have gone underground.
tiewashere 04-05-2007, 02:27 AM So can there be two pieces of one monster!!!!
HUH HUH?
Can there be three different monster's submerged into one???
HUH HUH?
wasp2020 04-05-2007, 02:33 AM Yup, noticed it straight away. 3 things of smoke coming up from the ground and forming into 1 before attacking the fence (then it went back to 3 when going back into ground).
Very cool.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly... :D
3 in one and one in 3.
very-lost 04-05-2007, 09:24 AM Did this seem to be the same smokie that interacted with Eko?
The smokie that "read his mind" seemed different than one that killed him and different from the one that tried to cross the giant dog fence.
Did anyone else seem to think so? :undecide:
Fierro 04-05-2007, 10:32 AM I noticed that too. Very nice tie in with the Cerberos definition. Besides, remember in the pilot, the first time we heard the monster? The Losties were looking left to right as if there were more that one monster...
KingMe122o 04-05-2007, 06:48 PM Another dog-like thing. In this picture, doesn't the front of Smokey look sort of like a dog's head?

KingMe122o 04-05-2007, 07:01 PM That's a really good picture.
capper 04-05-2007, 07:04 PM oh and can anyone quickly remind me who/what cerberus is? I've never heard that name mentioned on the show
KingMe122o 04-05-2007, 07:06 PM On the blast door map, something on it said "Cerberus activity."

Trevski 04-05-2007, 07:26 PM The Others are smokey
KingMe122o 04-05-2007, 07:28 PM Not really what we're talking about here...
marksman 04-05-2007, 07:30 PM I think it was also referenced somewhere that the "CV" on the blast door map stands for "Cerberus Vent", which indicates 1) that Smoky comes from tunnels (vents) underground and 2) it has access to most of the island's interior.
JungleLocke 04-05-2007, 08:03 PM It also happened in the season 1 finale. I shot out of the ground in three spurts just prior to dragging Locke down...or rather attempting to.

lostoholic 04-07-2007, 01:23 AM Great find Capper! Welcome to the Lage.
Exodus666 04-07-2007, 06:07 AM Nice find.
Seems to me you don't want to meet Cerebros twice, the first time he will scan you the second time he will kill you.
Same happened with Locke, the first time Locke saw it as a light, which must have been the lights we saw when it scanned Juliet, in the confusion Locke must have thought that was the monster.
Then he meets the monster a second time, but unlike Eko the monster is not out to kill him, rather drag him down somewhere.
This leads me to believe that its was NOT the monster that manifested Yemi, but in fact someone else who pretended to be Yemi, then lead Eko to the monster (or the monster to him).
Also as many others have pointed out it seems clear that the monster has a home base, and most likely underground, the CV vents seems like a likely alternative.
After all after taking the scans of Juliet and Kate the monster left, in a hurry.
Where too? Why did he need to leave, then come back ?
To get his photos processed?

bianconiglio 04-07-2007, 04:06 PM Hi, I'm new here. This is the first time I write something here. I know that these are two images from the first season, but I noticed these now and if it's not a problem I post them here, because we talk about the moster here. I'm sorry for my awful english (I'm Italian) Well... I saw those pictures, and I wanted to know what do you think about them... I mean: am I visionary, hallucinated??? Look at here...

What the HELL are these things on the tree?
I SWEAR I personally did these two screencaps from my original DVD and put the arrows to show those things. Why don't you try to do the frame-by-frame and and try to see that? If nobody find them let me know, because then I have to ask myself: What the hell of DVD do I have???

Wow - for a second I thought it looked like a totem pole, which would be an incredible find. But I do think the image was mirrored, with the line of separation being right down the trunk of the tree. Good eyes, though!

JeremyBender 04-07-2007, 09:15 PM I've been fascinated by all the mentions of Cerberus on the blast door map ever since annotated versions of the map appeared right after Lockdown. There's the four Cerberus Vents (which were confirmed via a clue on one of the LOST puzzles); the Dark Territories is the "primary nexus of Cerberus-related activity" which also has the notation in Latin of "There be dragons" :); in the upper left, "Alleged location of #4, The Flame, but unlikely due to Cerberus activity" and the medical station was supposedly abandoned in 1985 due to the AH/MDG Incident or "possible catastrophic malfunction of Cerberus system".
Very cool to see Cerberus in Left Behind. Wonder why it can't penetrate those trees (banyans?) that people duck in to, though it was way cool to see Juliet get zapped 4 times with a blinding white light. Her and John should have something to talk about now! :)
desmondslosthairstraighteners 04-07-2007, 09:44 PM Well after this new revelation of the magic box (yeh i know it really isn't a box, that's a metaphor) but where ever it is on the island, underground whatever, maybe Cerberus (we can call him that now cant we?) has access to it, and guards it. Perhaps Cerberus induces visions to all around it, or maybe it is plucking these people from visions out of the "magic box".
I don't really know what I'm talking about but it was worth a try.
KingMe122o 04-07-2007, 09:50 PM Which one is the flame again?

Cerberus was the 3 headed hound of Hell.

Yeah... I think you're right... it was a stupid reflection, maybe because of the screen cap in a different format (no widescreen?). I fell really stupid now... Anyway: thank you for the "good eyes, tough!" and "you're English is great"... very nice! :D
ame en peine 04-08-2007, 08:02 AM I've been fascinated by all the mentions of Cerberus on the blast door map ever since annotated versions of the map appeared right after Lockdown. Me too... Can't wait to find out the writers full explanation for it..

Good question... In another thread the discussion was that it senses metal. So possibly the banyan shields it.. In a sense, maybe it's "razzle dazzle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razzle_dazzle)" camouflage for the monster (couldn't resist) which were geometric drawings drawn on warships in WWII to help disrupt rangefinders..

Keep those observations coming, and don't feel stupid! We all throw ideas around and yes, some are silly (mostly mine).. But sometimes those are the ones that come true.. :)
Which one is the flame again? It's the communications station (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Flame)that blew up in "Enter 77"
PennyKnows 04-08-2007, 08:29 AM The most interesting revelation from "Left Behind" about Smokey is that he appeared in 3 fragments, like Cerberus. But why does this island need the guardian of Hell, or something quite similiar? I used to think Smokey was created by the Others to guard their camp but "Left Behind" answered that in the negative. They want to be protected from him too.
Also, a poster from another forum I visit reminded me that we saw a three-headed dog in Harry Potter -- guarding the Sorcerers' Stone. So the implication it is guarding something seems pretty clear now. Why and What (in true Lost fashion), not so much.
Klungar 04-11-2007, 01:02 AM Glad to see that other people share my love of this particular piece of Island mythology! I can't wait until we find out exactly what Smokey is, even though it will probably only be revealed during the last season...
