View Full Version : Do you trust Cassidy?

Sorry if there is already a thread going on this, but did anyone else wonder if there was some other motivation going on with Cassidy?

I hate to be such a cynic, but why would she go through all that for a stranger? Is there more going on here, or should I just learn to trust people again :hypocrit: ?

I kept looking for an ulterior motive -- like Cassy was in cahoots with the Feds -- but in fact, I think she saw a kindred spirit in Kate, and sincerely wanted to help her. Kate and Cassy were two strangers who lent each other a hand when needed.

This is in parallel or contrast to the relationship Kate and Juliet had in this episode: sisters-in-arms, learning to trust one another, and Sawyer learning how to be a decent human being (via Hurley's con).

I don't like Cassidy, never have. IMO she's just as suspicious as Juliet. There's something about her that seems off. She's Jacob! Ok, maybe not, but I still don't like her or trust her.

I didn't trust Cassidy for most of the episode, but I don't see how she profited from her interactions with Kate. Unless we learn that as soon as Kate got out of the car, Cass called the cops, I think we have to trust Cass.

The whole "I'm helping you because i just got ripped off by my man-mate" was so convoluted. There was nothing for Cassidy to materially gain by teaming up with Kate. "What is in it for me?" is what motivates a con.

A flat flashback story was made even worse by the implausibility of Cassidy helping Kate for nothing tangible in return.

Did they ever say who her man mate was? Was her man mate Sawyer?
This could make the possiblity that cassidy is also a time traveler and knows that eventually Kate will go to this island, have sex in a cage with Sawyer and then break his heart later on. This could be why she didn't want Kate to go to jail.

They didn't say in this episode, but we know she's talking about Sawyer. Cassidy has already been in 2 Sawyer flashbacks. She was who Sawyer fell in love with in The Long Con, and she's also the one who visited him in prison (telling him he had a daughter named Clementine) in Every Man for Himself.

Well put! I agree completely.

I expected Cassidy was wearing a wire after she pretended to be Kate and got picked up by the feds. It seemed like such a typical setup, with her getting Kate to basically lay out a full confession. So I'm glad that's not what happened and it made me believe Cassidy's motives were pure in wanting to help a new friend.

I thought so but didn't want to say without being sure. Thanks

I think Cassidy is an awsome character. I trust her, theres no reason not to, she helped Kate out, but she did turn Sawyer in but t that was after Kate told her to

...she did turn Sawyer in...

Do we know that for sure? I don't remember why Sawyer was in prison, but I would be surprised if it were Cassidy who did it after what Kate said to her. When Cassidy said "would you ever forgive your mother for turning you in?", Kate said "no". So I think that pretty much negated Kate's initial suggestion to turn him in.

I'm pretty sure it WAS Cassidy who turned Sawyer in. Didn't they discuss that in EMFH when Cassidy visited Sawyer in prison and told him about their daughter?

After Cassidy went to Diane's house and was subsequently taken down by the Marshall, etc., I can't believe that they didn't track Cassidy like a hawk. She was dressed in a disguise to look just like Kate and they would have clearly been suspicious of her.

Cassidy did turn in Sawyer. In the scene in EMFH where she visited him in prison, she called him Sawyer and he said something like "My name is James Ford. You know that because you pressed charges against me."

I dont' think there had to be anything in it for Cassidy. As we saw in Sawyer's flashback from last season - she was more than happy to go along with the cons. She was excited by them. I think she gets a rush out of it so helping out Kate was possibly just intriguing to her at first. Then after a little bit she most likely got to like/empathize with Kate and she genuinely wanted to help her. That was my take at least. :)

I think cassidy helping Kate was only to add another connection to the losties. Kate received help from Cassidy who got screwed by sawyer, who got screwed by kate literally. Its a small world after all.

im not sure what i think of the whole cassidy backstory. i mean..there was no reason for her to help kate other then the fact that kate prevented the guy from calling the cops. its not that i dont trust her..i just dont understand her motivation. she's almost too sweet to be believable.

I think there probably was something in it for Cassidy and we'll learn what that was at a later date.

Thanks. I didn't remember that. After what Kate said about never forgiving her mother, I wonder why Cassidy would have done that? Hopefully we'll get another Sawyer flashback featuring Cassidy at some point that fills in the "why".
