Could Cassidy have been the person that sent Kate aka Joan Hart the money and the letter telling her that her mom was in the hospital with cancer in "Born To Run"? It's always bugged me that they never explained who did this and tonight's episode may have just done that. What do you all think?

I think that's a cool theory. If it's true, they'd have to explain why Kate was crying so much...did she feel really back for Cassidy having this kid with a father in prison? Was Cassidy being really nice and trying to convince Kate to settle down?

I loved seeing them together, Thelma and Louise style. It was pretty clear that Kate and Sawyer were connected in their pasts (Kevin working in Miami, speaking of the 'fugitive' could have been Sawyer, their numerous geographical locations matching up, now this), and maybe there will be more connections.

It was cool seeing them Thelma & Louise as you put it. I don't know if Cassidy stayed in Iowa or not but if she did she would have been able to keep an eye on Kate's mom since she knew where she lived and worked.

That's exactly what I was thinking while watching this epi. It was such a mystery who wrote that letter since it seemed like she couldn't really trust anybody with her whereabouts, except possibly Tom but he was surprised to see her. It's obvious Kate trusted Cassidy, especially telling her her real name.

Awesome! So, I'm was alone in thinking this. Great. Even if TPTB never bring this into fruition, it could - and kinda does - make sense.

Except, where would the name "Joan Hart" come from? That's a hole, but easily fixed in a flashback down the line.

If she stayed in touch with Cassidy, then this is a possibility. In that case, she might even have met Clementine.
I thought maybe the Marshall sent her the money in order to trap her.

Hmm...let's say she did stay in touch with Cassidy, and that Cassidy was the one to send her the letter and money. If Kate and Cassidy became very close friends, how does that effect Kate's relationship with Sawyer? (ETA: Not the romantic one, I don't want to get into that.)

What was Kate doing in Australia in the first place? That has never been explained, and I think there must be a good reason that the writers are being really elusive about it. For everyone else, there is a clear reason why they were there. Could it be she was there to track down Sawyer for Cassidy in the first place?

Yeah, it's a possibility and to thank her back, Kate robbed the bank in New Mexico/ Albukerque where Sawyer set an account for Clem, took the toyplane and the 10 M $ commission and shared it with Cassie. Money she used to fly to Australia by a private Jet ...or a Yacht? that's how she knows her way around boats. And in one FB we'll have all 3 seasons questions answered.

I know this is probably really cheesy, but Beth Broderick (who plays Diane) was in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch TV series whose star was...Melissa JOAN HART. So it could be a big Easter Egg I guess.

Interesting.

That would depend on when Cassidy moved to NM. It's as good an explanation as any, I suppose.

But if Kate was in Australia to track down Sawyer, she would have had his name. So when she met him after the crash why didn't she ask him about it?

Oh MAN. Wouldn't that be wild?!:eek2:

I thought that the producers at some juncture in time had mentioned that the note was 'from a relative'. That might even mean Kevin's Mom for all we know.

I LOVE the Cassidy theory and you're right about her staying in Iowa...it would have been the perfect front right under their noses.

It seems like that might be tough since the Marshall would have had to know where Kate was and that she would be looking for a letter for Joan at the hotel.

I like the idea that Cassidy could be the one who sent her the note and money, but I think it was probably her dad. As fro why Kate was in Australia, I have no guesses, but I can't wait to find out (next season perhaps?).

oh, i thought this might be a connection, too - it would make sense. i am glad there are others who thought of this, not just me. good call!
