She also didn't seem to be carrying them with her when she walked to the ladder. Just her jacket and purse.

I assumed she just slipped them on when she grabbed her purse and jacket off the lower bunk. I don't remember them giving us a clear shot of her feet when she's actually climbing the ladder......the camera shot was from the top of the hatch - but maybe i missed it.

I can't decide if they were trying to point to timeline issues (like Desmond's time skipping). Or to the question of why they would remove her shoes and restrain her? A plane/submarine ride wouldn't be THAT turbulent. And Ethan made it sound as if the rough ride was normal. Do submarines encounter much turbulence? I'm not sure the only way on/off the island is the sub.

I was greatly amused by the fact that those heels were so stiletto-like. I was waiting for Juliet to fall through the boards on the dock. But in general I was thinking that she was a "professional" woman going to a new job. You dress up, and you prepare to meet your new boss in a nice outfit, and heels. I found it a humorous moment, as she musters up her dignity after a long, strange trip.

I always take my shoes off on long journeys... flights, cars, trains, so I probably would in a sub, too. Not that she did, but it was most likely a comfort thing.

I think that the deliberate shot of her shoes was to show us just how unprepared for the island she was. That heels are so impractical, but she had no idea. She had no idea where she was going. She probably thought it would be a lab somewhere, clean, in civilization. Not an island inhabited by crazy people in the south Pacific. Where she would be falling in mud puddles and kidnapping people.

good catch. likely a continuity issue like last week when Kate fell in the mud. It was clearly a second or third take because she was covered in mud before she even hit the puddle.

All I remember thinking is how in the heck is she suppose to walk on that planked pier in those shoes? Thats just an axident waiting to happen. I half expected to see her trip and fall off the pier.

I noticed the shoe issue too, because those shoes were killer. I want a pair! All kidding aside, I think the shoes were meant to show us that she had no idea what she was getting herself into.

I noticed that too and so I replayed it in slow motion (Old time VCR's have an advantage).
She gets off the bunk barefooted.
But you can see that she does have her shoes on when she climbs up the ladder. Its like one or two frames but its there.
They just dont show her slipping her shoes on at all.

I think it was because it was hilarious, this woman all dolled up for a big corporate power-job interview, striding onto this wild island in her fancy heels. It was a wonderful sight gag.

Perhaps the island's mystical powers also happen to provide footwear -- shoes for the shoeless!

she did have the shoes on when she was climbing up the ladder if you look at it from overhead, she prolly had her shoes on the floor the entire time. i mean she was in a bed, people dont usually wear shoes in bed.

but she had pretty feet. heh, and I still wonder if they're ticklish. ^.^
