Do you buy it? Or is it a way to keep Juliet on the island for longer?

View Full Version : "The cancer has come back" LockeLove 04-11-2007, 11:28 PM Do you buy it? Or is it a way to keep Juliet on the island for longer? Sarah Mai 04-11-2007, 11:48 PM Good point. We know Ben is good at conning (Sawyer). He said he was offended when she called him a liar but we also know he is an experienced liar. He did very well as Henry Gale. I think it's very possible that this was another con. bludab 04-12-2007, 12:02 AM I don't understand why he would go to the trouble of faking the news , unless it's just for the setup that Jacob's power extends to the outside world. She apparently already knew that cancer was curable on the island - why would she need to be duped into thinking it was on the outside? Lioness 04-12-2007, 12:04 AM I believe Juliet's Sister is cured. There's no point in making her still have cancer even after Ben showed Juliet the live camera. The island must have its own beef with Ben, so that's why he has cancer. LockeLove 04-12-2007, 12:07 AM Well she saw that her sister is alive in well. I think it never came back and he just made up the story and the charts. He had her have faith in someone in the outside world to cure her sister. She seemed okay with is answer, which just seemed bizarre. lost_horizon 04-12-2007, 12:56 AM I think she was never in danger of dying. I think he just wants her to believe that his people cured her. I am surprised that a woman of science could fall for Ben's lies. Locke and Load 04-12-2007, 12:59 AM I thought the same thing. So she read a few charts and papers, easily faked. Show me some pictures of her cancer ridden sister and I'll believe it. She was healthy in the video feed because the cancer never came back. "I'm not a liar, Juliet." Please, he's not a liar unless he's trying to con somebody he should say, like he did with the Losties as Henry Gale. workingmom 04-12-2007, 01:07 AM I think she was never in danger of dying. I think he just wants her to believe that his people cured her. I am surprised that a woman of science could fall for Ben's lies. I agree. I think it was another mind game of Ben's. And yes, he does lie. Rekk14 04-12-2007, 01:24 AM I came to a bit of a crossroads after seeing that scene. I believe it to be one of two scenerio's. Ben seemed extremely concerned that Juliet see the "live" footage of her sister right then and there. It's hard to believe that this could have been the most important thing that Ben had to do at the exact time, as a crashing plane over what Ben believes to be an invisible island just flew over head. I personally believe that Ben had set up this date specifically for Juliet to see the footage of her sister, and had no option but show it to her on that day, becuase it had been filmed in advance sometime in the future. If this season has been hinting at anything through all the hidden messages here and there is that time on the island does not function the way we think it does (Damon Lindelof literally said that at Comic Con this year). I believe that Ben knows this, and there only are a very select few other (Mikhail being one of them) that also are aware of this warp. I believe that the majority of the others on the island are going by the standard time table (calendars and all), but Ben at least in his head knows that time is actually going slower on the island (thus, much faster in the real world). So, my crossroads is... is everything I said just totally over the top, or might this be a valid idea. I'd love to read what you guys think. |
