could have been kidnaped that very night. But that would also imply that it wouldn't take much time to travel back and forth. But after rewatching "Man from Tallahassee"
you can tell that the wounds Cooper has are fresh. Could their "Magic Box" allow them to travel? Question is how much time elapsed between Ben telling Richard to get the man from tallahassee and the time he was shown to Locke. If he did get him that night then we know there is a way off the island.

My take on Ben telling Richard to get the man from Tallahassee is that Cooper is already somewhere on the island.

Yeah, I agree.
I don't think Richard kidnapped Cooper when he went to the states to video tape Juliette's sister. They didn't know anything about the losties then because the plane hadn't crashed yet. And in addition to that, Ben told Richard to get back to the island ASAP due to the plane crash.
After intelligence was gathered on the losties after the crash, they probably sent someone to capture Cooper and bring him back to the island and hold them so that when the time came, they could use him for leverage or for whatever reason later in the future.

seeing that richard and ethan travel back and forth sheds a different light on how cooper got there. he had a look like he had just been "captured" - fresh wounds, frightened look". if they can move on and off the island very easily, it means that they could have just taken cooper the same night that the losties arrived at the others camp.

I believe the damage to the communications equipment is real, and that without the underwater beacon the sub would have no way to locate the island. They could move on and off the island very easily pre-swan-failsafe, but not anymore.
In other words, I believe what Mikhail said, except the parts about Dharma and the purge.

I belive that the whole submarien deal is a lie. Ben himself said that the sub gives people the illusion that they can go home. There is another thread that questions why Julliette was drugged. They didn' t want her to know how she got there.(They could have just put a bag over her head) They put her in the sub so she would think that is how she got there. They probably did this to all the recruits, even Patchy. Richard, the back and forth guy knew that the sub was gone but didn't seem to mind. There has to be another way on and off the island, Boat, Plane, Hot air ballon, and whatever the others really use.

Yes, We were given the impression that Locke had been locked up for a wile. It was hrs or maybe even the next morning before Ben came to get him.
