Remember last week? "Nothing ever stays buried on this island? What do you bet Ethan will come back into the land of the living with one of the mystical 'cures' in some medical kit hidden at some usual meeting place?

Initial thoughts associated this comment with the burial last week... but a plausible ramification would surely be Ethan, whose burial place was disclosed in this episode (if anything needs disclosing from anybody on this island.)

i've always thought that the others don't really die. they never seem upset about it. just like juliet didn't seem upset when hurley mentioned ethan's death. she actually seemed to smirk. like she knew something they did not. i wouldn't be too surprised if we suddenly saw ethan, goodwin, mikail or ms. clugh again. i have a hard time believing they are all really dead.

They are dead. Its been said time and time again that the dead don't come back to life on the island.

I'm still convinced that Nikki and/or Paulo are not going to "stay buried". Someone is going to feel a need to dig them up (perhaps for the diamonds) and find that one (or both) of them isn't buried. It just didin't feel like their story got adequate closure to me.

These people are dead. Dead bodies stay dead.

"We buried Ethan over there"
Then the evil smirk on Julliette face that says: "Yah sure he's burried there..? muahaha"
Then pops Lockes line up: "Nothing stays buried on this island"

Well I bet there will be a huge upcoming Ethan-twist.... that shocks us all

"Taddaaaa I'm Ethan and alive, I dug myself up and gonna experiment on y'all!!!"

I hope this isn't the case since we've been told the dead stay dead.

Hey, listen: Victor pulled the blanket/tarp off their gravesite. 'Nuff said.

When Victor does something, think not that the bell tolls in vain....it tolls for we!!

Locke said no-thing... not no-ONE, stays buried on this island. He was referring to secrets, pasts, everyone's true colors, etc. IMO. If no one stays dead what the heck was Vincent playing with in Hurley's ep? Or Adam and Eve, etc.

We need to read the lines, not between them...

Also, the others have funerals, very reminiscent of Viking funerals actually.. Remember the funeral for Pickett's wife?? They set her on fire and out to sea..I highly doubt they can survive that much damage.

And we saw night and day in this week's ep, didn't we? The time frame alone would not be conducive to survival under 4 or so feet of sand (And of course Paolo had to be dead at least, ya know, or else he would have recognized Juliet, just as Desmond would have recognized Libby, etc).

You know in Season 1 Jack also makes a comment something like 'but how long will they stay buried' during the discussion on burying or burning the fuselage.

I'm sure in that context he was referring to the boars - but in Lockes context he was referring to the beach erosion.

So, the idea that things don't stay buried wasnt first mentioned this season.

(ps, no zombies please. I love zombies, but not on my lost!)

No need for a mystical cure, if you watch Ethan's burial scene closely, you'll see that he was still breathing. The camera shot is deliberately set up so that you are looking up over the body bag, which makes it quite obvious that he is breathing.

And it did seem to me that Juliette was smirking when she looked over at Ethan's "grave."

Dude, I'm sure it was something we were meant to overlook, but seriously. I rewatched Ethans burial scene, and yes he's taking steady, shallow breaths, and yes those eight seconds of film are stationary with his chest perfectly centered on the blue sky background making for good clear contrast, however the Nicki and Paulo newspaper date was similar in that respect too. There's even dialogue by Hurley making allowance for the possibility of Ethan returning from the dead. I have to default to Darlton in the podcast though, where they time and again confirm the "once dead, always dead" rule on Lost. They're always smirking about the Season 8 Zombie Season in a way that lets you know that it'll never happen.
