Desmond seems to be a replacement for the faith element of Lost. First it was Locke, then Eko, now Desmond--each with a specific gift, but always driven by faith. Anyone else get that impression?

I was thinking the same thing. He isn't taking it as far as Locke though. At this point he seems unwilling to "sacrifice" anyone for the sake of fulfilling his quests.

I don't know, I'm just glad he didn't go totally evil and just 'let' Charlie die. ...Even as much as it pained him... :(

There is a great unlying element of Biblical imagery in the whole Lost storyline. Look at how many people have names from the Bible. There is always going to be a strong component of faith counterbalanced with science. Desmond is definitely the man of faith right now.

He's also a "coward" who runs away from everything. HIs faith isn't that strong apparently. I'm worried about how long he may remain on the island!

It would be nice if he made it to the end of the show so that we could see the Demond/Penny reunion but I think he's toast. I think somehow he and Charlie are going to be switched in the whole "course correction" thing.

If Charlie and Desmond are switched, then Charlie will become the man of faith. This show desperate wants one and they keep transferring the mantle.

Ditto. Ever since Ecko died, I've been watching old Oz clips on Youtube to get my "Triple-A" fix.

They have just set up the Charlie dying thing so much that I can't see them really going through with it. But Desmond or Charlie has to go unless we're going to have him saving Charlie constantly until the show ends.

I've yet to see any cowardly trait in Des. Only normal human instincts! I know it's coming.

I don't think he'll have to die....maybe Des will simply loose his future-seeing gift somehow. But, if that happens, Charlie will die for sure because Des won't be able have any flashes to see him. Egads!

I agree with you, I find it strange that they'd have Des saving Charlie forever.


IMO......Des is definately our "next man of faith".
