It was either: 1. Penny looking different.

I think it was someone hired to find Desmond. Who ever it was they were flying some sort of a black op's mission noting the black flying suit, although the white helmet didn't match, which is just odd or misleading.

Yeah she's definitely someone that Penny hired. That's the only thing that makes sense... otherwise she wouldn't know his name or have a picture of him and Penny.

What I wondered Tie, was if it originally HAD BEEN Penny until Desmond saved Charlie! Because the whole "twist" of this episode was Desmond having the will to let Charlie die to have his vision come to fruition. I mean, what would have happened if the vision had some true just as he had seen it??

However, I don't see Penny herself coming to save Desmond. I see her hiring someone to look for him and rescue him.

I wondered too if Desmond saving Charlie resulted in a course correction. The parachutist was meant to be Penny, but when Desmond cheated fate, the outcome and the parachutist changed.

Definitely! That's why Desmond said "I'm sorry, Baby." He felt that by saving Charlie he had killed Penny. He was saying that if anything changed in the vision the picture would change all together.

I don't think we ever saw any actual images of Penny in Desmond's flashes. Did we? I wasn't sure where Desmond got that Penny (or anyone) was coming- from what we saw in those flashes.

it's an interesting question, but i really do just think it was someone hired by penny to track down des. the copy of catch-22 in portuguese (ardil-22 i think?) seems to be evidence of that since a) i doubt penny would've been reading a non-english copy (though possible), and b) the members of that observation station who were looking for des at penny's request were speaking portuguese (which means they're likely team members).

penny doesnt seem like the parachuting type. i mean, she has two non-english men operating a listening post while she is safe and comfortable at home in bed. so, for sure, she would use someone other than herself to carry out the job of checking out the location, specified by her two monitoring men, of the magnetic discharge.

IF this woman parachuter is that person, then the island has lost its ability to cloak itself, and CAN be found by outsiders.

furthermore, if desmundos choice about charlie DID change the happenings of time, and those changes were negative to desmundos position, it is likely that the crash and bailout were those changes, and not WHO bailed out.

I dont think its silly. Lost makes you think of all possibilities. I think it pretty clear nothing changed but charlie dying. As someone said the book was not in english

But also the vision showed the person hanging in the tree. If anything, the girl could have been dead and desmond actually saved her by saving Charlie..that would be more in line with theme.

But remember, if we are to accept the future happens as it is suppose to, no matter how Desmonds reacts, then everything will turn out how its suppose to.

Looks like the island defences are still intact--as the chopper seems to have been knocked out at the barrier.

No,dont be so mean to yourself,it wasnt stupid,not more than many of our theories though:rolleyes:I WOUDLNT be surprised if he changed the looks of Pen by saving Charlie,but i guess what extracts from your words is maybe that he changed the outcome of the story by saving Charlie.Maybe Pen was about to fall from the sky,although i doubt that too.I guess ,Des only THOUGHT that it was Pen,as we know that he may have visions but not crystal clear ones.So i guess it was Naomi all along!
