View Full Version : I took the rode less traveled by.........

As I watched this epi on the edge of my seat - I kept hearing Des say - you have to go - this person has to go - it has to happen this way..............
In his vision Charlie is hit by the spear falls and then the body falls from the trees - but he changes things - he takes the other path - and the body doesn't fall -

This has me thinking -
How many times have the Losties taken the rode less traveled by - changing the outcome of their future -
BUT maybe the didn't take that rode and lead them to where they are now -
From Sun getting on the plane in the first place
Boone going to Shannon and sleeping with her the night before the flight -

Were those the rode less traveled by or not and who else has had a choice or path in front of them???

Wow, that really makes you think.
You can't really make the assumption that they took the rode less traveled by UNLESS you saw their lives with other paths they have chosen to take. But, yes, I agree with you.

I don't really understand, but if you are saying that they chose to take the easier route, or they chose take the harder route,....if so, that is a good observation. We all face this choice, in different ways, everyday,...

What I did notice is that every Lostie is 'running' from something in their pasts. Something deeply troubling:

1. Jack - Father dead. Jack feels responsible.

2. Kate - Murdered step-father. Kate feels responsible (no duh).

3. Sun - Realization her hubby is a thug. Sun feels responsible (she likes living well). Sun is running from her Father.

4. Jin - He is a thug. Jin feels responsible for ruining Sun's life. Jin is running from Sun's Father.

5. Claire - Tried to give Aaron up for adoption. Claire feels guilty for not loving her baby. Claire has an issue with Aaron's Daddy,...he left them high and dry.

6. Hurley - Won unlucky fortune. Family members died. Hurley blamed himself and the numbers. Hurley and his step-father did not get along well, and when they finally did, Hurley left,...refusing to give up his stubborn feelings regarding his step-father.

7. Sawyer - Oh heck,...he's done everything from A-Z. Sawyer feels guilty about his life, and especially his 'daughter'. Sawyer is the "Daddy" issue in his life,...lol.

8. Locke - Used and abused. Locke's regret is that he did not stand up to his Father.

9. Charlie - Druggie. Charlie feels guilty for ruining his band and drugs. Charlie does not appear to have "Father" issues,...that I can remember.

10. Sayid - Militia. Killed and tortured many civilians. Sayid realizes that many of those he tortured were innocent people. Again, no "Father" issue, that I can recall.

It's weird to note that Charlie and Sayid, have no Daddy issues,...they are, possibly, the only remaining Losties who are exempt from this scenario.

Please let me know if I missed anybody, and what you think. Thanks!

Claire could be thought to be running from what happened to her mother and finding out she has a father - running from him - we still don't know his reaction to her pregnancy or if he even knew!

And what I am trying to figure out is - are they taking the rode less traveled and making better decisions now that they are on the island - did they take the easy rode off the island?

1dimpleonly.. I think Charlie does have daddy issues. Remember his flashback, where we saw shots of his dad yelling and cutting up meat? He didn't seem like a very nice guy. But you're right, we haven't seen Sayid's mother or father have we?

-i believe that was actually hurley's biological father (you're referring to cheech, yes?)

-sawyer definitely has issues about his daughter but the big daddy/family issue revolves around the death of his parents via the manipulations of his namesake (which may or may not tie in with locke's daddy issues).

Right. And I think he was yelling in the background that Charlie needed to learn a manly trade like butchering instead of playing music like his mother encouraged him to do.

Wow great thinking here. I just gotta add that even Walt had daddy issues in that he just met his father before they left Australia.

True. We always seem to forget Walt. Also, his adoptive father Brian seemed to be scared of him. That couldn't have been good for the kid's self esteem. I can't imagine them having a very strong relationship.

Homage to Pink Floyd - one of 2 for Charlie I believe, but good point.
