Coincidentally, I watched the "23rd Psalm" before watching this episode. Remember the part where Smokey approaches Eko? I hear clickity noises, and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't those "helicopter noises" sound like Smokey? I even noticed that last week in the trailer for tonight's episode.

Granted someone fell from the sky, and according to PaceJunkie on another thread, it was a piece of the helicopter. But, I don't know, something smells, and something doesn't seem right.

What do you guys think?

Well in the last podcast someone had asked why couldnt smokey just float over the sonic barrier ala kate/locke/sayid and danielle. They replied somethin along the lines of maybe smokey cannot completely detach himself from land as theyre possible reasoning but they never said anything as fact. Id venture to say the helicopter and smokey have nothin to do with each other but with lost anything's possible.

I don't think it was smokey, where would the parachute girl come from if it wasn't a helicopter? I don't think smokey can go that far away from the island.

Ok, I understand you guys' rationale. I don't think it's Smokey either, because I understand the whole thing about Smokey staying on the ground. But then again, maybe I should have titled the thread differently, did the sound at least make people initially think of Smokey?

This whole new info about Smokie IS BIG. It confirms that the underground mechanical sounds ARE related to the Black Cloud which also supports the old theory that there might be a machine moving underground supporting Smokie which just 'floats' over the ground. What kind of technology is it based on then? Does this all mean that Smokie is indeed technological in nature and not supernatural?
But if it is man-made, where the heck did DHARMA, the Others, Mittelos, Hanso, etc get the technology and knowledge to build such a thing???? It would be impossible and unbelievable to achieve in Lost's current timelines.(1970-2004) even in the realm of 'pseudo' science...
I can only think of one other alternative: The Future. Here comes the Time Travel stuff again (which I never really liked:frown:). What if somehow, just like Desmond traveled back in time when the anomaly took place, during another similar situation in DHARMA times, this Black Cloud traveled back from a distant future and got stuck on the island's space-time due to its unique electromagnetic properties?
Then Dharma may have built an underground locomotion-support-prison system (Cerberus) to keep Smokie attached to the ground.
