View Full Version : Desmond Penny Meet
nestafett 04-19-2007, 03:26 AM so the priest says he knows desmond had far greater things in store, he was meant for something more significant, like they told juliette. and the lady in the monks picture is the lady from desmonds jewelry store.
the priest tells desmond to do what comes next, almost like a spiritual order and then he meets penny and it leads to his greater things, didnt seem like fate, seemed like a setup.
maybe desmond was "chosen" and since they (who ever is in charge of all this recruiting) knew he was a coward they couldn't just ask him, he needed to be tricked into going?
am i crazy?
did that even make sense?
saratoga 04-19-2007, 03:31 AM I hope not, because Penny seems like the one good and consistent thing that Desmond has. I thought the meeting was sweet. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be more.
Interesting that the woman in the photo was the woman in the jewelery store, though...
abbybaby 04-19-2007, 03:33 AM Made sense to me, another con! And now Monks are doing the connning! Geez! Could very well be. I did love seeing how they met, thought the whole conversation was really cute. Funny she just invited a stranger to be alone with in car?

I totally buy this theory as I am not buying the Desmond/Penny relationship to be genuine. I definitely think she is in the upper echelon of the Hanso/Dharma/Widmore/whatever organization. Isn't there supposed to be another group of people who come to the island and force the Losties and the Others to work together to combat this new group. I read this somewhere awhile ago. I think if this is true, then that's when Penny does make it to the island and Desmond will learn her true intentions.
I have been saying that there is something off between them and off with her. I think she is a bad, bad, girl. My radar for shady characters goes 90 miles an hour when I see her interact with him. What really convinced me was in FBYE when he broke up with her, she didn't seem that upset. She cried, what ONE tear...just like she cried at the stadium when he "rejected" her. Plus there is no way that a girl who was treated like she was treated would search the entire "planet" for someone out of love (at least not on THIS show). IMO she definitely has ulterior motives. I think there is way more to their situation than meets the eye.
Funny she just invited a stranger to be alone with in car?
I thought this was odd as well. And I found it odd she was picking up the wine at all for her father. If it they are as rich as they are said to be, why in the world would Mr. Widmore send his own daughter to pick up the wine and not have it shipped somehow?
wanders01 04-19-2007, 08:14 AM Not only a stranger but someone who just admitted being "fired" from the "monkery" I think maybe you'd want to a least ask the Abbot why he was "fired" before you let him in your car.
Ladybug_ocean 04-19-2007, 03:54 PM Not to go off on a silly Jacob tangent, but I thought it was an interesting choice of words considering Jacob is always described as a "great man".

Maybe its not the Monks. Maybe the whole Monastery was the con and the Monks merely con men in robes. Ha! Not likely but wouldnt that be entertaining.
adr55555 04-19-2007, 06:01 PM palomino_grl78,
I started wondering about Penny after last night's eppy. Last night's took place in 1995, right? The Flashes episode was in 1996? They meet in '95, break up in '96, at some point Des ends up in prison, gets out and Penny tracks him down at the stadium. She hadn't had contact with him in three years, but she she tracked him down in LA?
Now either that is one seriously strong love connection or she's up to no good. Before last night I bought into the romance of the Des-Penny story. But today ... For me, the jury is still out, but I'm keeping my mind open to the possibility that she might be a snake, or would that be the snake in the mailbox?
Have you posted such thoughts on Penny elsewhere? I'm curious as to what all has made you suspicious of her.

But what a handsome stranger! He made her laugh. ;)

A lot of places. I cannot put my finger on it precisely, initially it was just the way I saw their interactions as being a bit forced. Like no romantic chemistry. Something was off. Now, after seeing their first meeting, I am even more convinced that their is a setup involved. I believe in fate up to a point, but when so many people who have very similar connections are interacting in a way to him to the island...I start doubting these coincidences. These forces just seem to be a little too pursuading. As you hinted either she's really desperately in love (although she didn't seem too upset when he dumped her in FBYE), just desperate, or has an agenda. I pick the latter. I almost doubt the whole monastery as being legit as well. But I could be way off. It's just a gut feeling I have about her (same gut feeling I had about Michael).

Go with your gut. People who go with their gut are usually right.
