when the vision/flashback he had only showed pennys PICTURE, and never showed the pilot as Penny at all. Desmond misread the flashback and assumed because there was a flash of Penny in a picture that the pilot was her.

They had me going...no it's not going to be her....no....no....oh no they are doing a Penny Montage.....no still not going to be her.......oh no.....if it is that would suck! oh thank god.

Yea I never got why Des thought it was going to be Penny..I didn't get that from his dream sequences at all. He just saw a wire and Charlie being killed and then it showed a parachute and pictures of him and Pen..but what made him think it was going to be her? I guess he has always hoped she was looking for him, so maybe it was all just wishful thinking on his part, but I just didn't see the connection. If Penny sent this woman to look for him, then I guess he did make the right connection, just not in the way he thought it would be. I knew when he pulled her helmet off that it wasn't going to be her. I just think they are going to wait until one of the last episodes, maybe even the very last, to reunite Desmond and Penny. I can't wait to see them back together. No wait, not if it's the end of Lost when it happens! I do hope they end up together in the end though. They have amazing chemistry together.

Someone in that thread did point out that the screencap might have been from Desmond's last episode when he breaks up with Penny and that's why she has tears in her eyes..

LOL, they got me going too! But, I had a feeling it wouldn't be her..

I remember Desmond saying to Charlie that his visions were changing from one thing to the next from not letting it all play out. And than after Desmond saved Charlie, he asked him " You were sacrificing me for Penny.. weren't you?" Than I think Desmond replied, "I think I was being tested."

So, it makes you wonder if Penny will show up later, or something? If she didn't show up now.. Maybe everything has been switched around? Maybe Penny replaces Claire drowning in the ocean (in Desmond's old vision) and Charlie tries to go out and rescue Penny instead?
