I found the name of the monastery vineyards to be very interestering, Moriah Vineyards. The biblical meaning for Moriah is 'bitterness of the Lord'. So basically, we have The Bitterness of the Lord Vineyards. Doesn't sound like the kind of wine I would want to buy.
I'm curious if anyone can think of any deeper meaning. Does it mean anyone who drinks the wine will have a 'bitterness' life? Maybe I'm digging too deep, but I just find it odd that the monastery would tie itself to that name. Let me know if I'm missing something here.

That is pretty interesting especially in context to the subject of wine

Biblically speaking, Moriah is the place where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice Isaac. We see Brother Campbell fire Desmond and places him directly in the path of meeting Penny. This sets off a chain of events that leads Desmond to the island. I don't think it's any accident in any sense of the word because we see a picture of Campbell with Ms. Hawking (the ring shop lady) on his desk. You could say in this instance that Desmond is Isaac and is being "sacrificed" to go to the island.
But what's interesting is that the role was reversed and Desmond saw Charlie getting killed. He was prepared to sacrifice him because he thought it was necessary to lead him to Penny. At the last second, he saves Charlie at the risk of not getting to Penny.
I would like to point out an obvious comparison here. Locke was prepared to sacrifice Boone and did so. Desmond was prepared to sacrifice Charlie but did not. Both were led to making the decision under a selfish premise. Desmond took a less selfish path whereas Locke did not. I have to wonder if this will come back to haunt Locke and provide salvation for Desmond.

Interesting point, especially so considering it was Locke who led to the hatch implosion (thinking the numbers were just some sort of mind control experiment) whereas Desmond was the one that realized that the hatch/numbers were necessary at the last minute and pulled the failsafe.
Hmmm. Interesting.
Aggie- I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought "Moriah" = "Bitter", even though my second thought was it had more to do with the Biblical story of Issac and Abraham. Its Hebrew, which makes me think of the aviation company that Juliet was dropped off at by her sister in the last episode. Hararat or whatever. Sounds like Mt. Ararat, where supposedly Noah's Ark landed. Though I don't know enough about Middle Eastern native languages to draw more conclusions.

(Ruth 1:2) etc.; Ruth 2:1 etc.; Ruth 3:1; 4:3 etc. (B.C. 1363.) The name is derived from a root signifying sweetness or pleasantness. Naomi left Judea with her husband and two sons, in a time of famine and went to the land of Moab. Here her husband and sons died; and on her return to Bethlehem she wished to be known as Mara, bitterness , instead of Naomi, sweetness.
The Illuminati (or Moriah Conquering Wind as they prefer to call themselves these days) is a very secretive group of occult practitioners who have been around for thousands and thousands of years

but Locke ( most likely ) didnt know that boone was going to die by sending him up to the beachcraft.
it was probably more a case of the island protecting locke by taking away his ability to walk so that he didnt die.
locke probably surmised that boone must have been a sacrifice after he died
whereas desmond had seen what would happen to charlie.

i just went to the anagram server and discovered that "moriah vineyards" is an anagram for "harmed visionary" pretty funny. that can't be a coincidence could it?
