If that's spelled right.

The search function doesn't seem to be working for me so I don't know about previous mentions of this.

I thought it was funny that Penny was taking the wine to Carlyle, which coincidentally is Boone's last name. Just a fun coinky-dink?
Also Kitty Carlyle just passed. That's too much of a coincidence!

Just coincidence, I think. The city's name is spelled Carlisle for a start. It's pretty much the first major settlement you'd encounter after crossing the border from Scotland to England. Probably chosen because it's eminently within driving distance.

That, and to establish that Penny is English while Desmond is Scottish. How common is that, by the way-- cross-border couplings? There seemed to still be a modest amount of contention between the English and the Scottish when I went to the UK, but maybe it was just the ancient blowhards I happened to be around.

Wouldn't be an issue at all, even though Desmond is presumably a Catholic (since he supports Celtic) and Penny presumably isn't. Thousands upon thousands of Scots work, live, settle and marry in England, and vice versa (to a lesser extent.) They do all share the same nationality, after all.

Carlisle is the nearest English town to the scottish border, Des being Scottish and Penny being English.. I assume it was mentioned as a "half way house" for them meeting, seeing as its used for crossing in between countrys, thus the meeting between Des and Penny
