Now that we know Desmond was a monk for a short while, has anybody looked into Charlie and Desmond crossing paths in Season 1? When we first learned how Charlie become a rock star, there was at least one scene where Charlie was praying in church and confessing his sins. We've already seen a lot of connections with Desmond and Charlie so far. Is it possible that this is the same church? Did Desmond or the monk make an appearance in these episodes, possibly in the confessional? Is the same monk guiding Charlie's life as well? Let me know if anybody has any thoughts or insight.

We havent seen Desmond or the monk in any Charlie flashbacks, but it's a possibility for any future Chalie flashbacks. I think I heard a filming report the church they filmed this episode at the same church that was seen in "the Moth", a Charlie flashback.

Someone mentioned that it was also the same church as the one in Mr. Eko's village, or at the very least, used many of the same props.

Aside from the set/prop issue, monasteries are generally isolated locations and not strictly open to the public. An average punter like Charlie is unlikely to have been found confessing there. Also, Desmond's backstory and possibly his character had yet to be conceived at that point.

Well, we already know they met once prior to the timeline that the series is taking place - it was shown in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" when Desmond runs into Charlie performing as a street musician in London. However, I'm positive the monastery we saw this last episode is located in Scotland, not England. Penny tells Desmond that she is travelling with the wine to Carlisle, which is in Scotland, and Brother Campbell was definitely a Scot! Since we have no evidence that Charlie ever was in Scotland, there is probably a very unlikely chance that Charlie and Desmond would have crossed paths while Desmond was staying at the monastery...

On a point of pedantry, Carlisle is in England (albeit just over the border.) But aside from that you're spot on, the monastery was definitely located in Scotland. The even cgi'd up some grey skies outside Ruth's house. :)

No, not the one in his village. Eko was at the same church Charlie confessed at in The Moth, when he received the fake passport and then the tickets to travel to Australia to check out the miracle of the girl who drowned. They were the same church.

No. Eko was already IN Australia. The passport was for travelling TO Los Angeles.

Ah, you are correct, Eko was already in Australia. Either way, they were the same church in physical location, even if not in location in the story.

It gets pretty grey in Hawaii - they wouldn't have had to CGI that necessarily. Trust me, I lived there for two years, and there were plenty of overcast days - especially this time of year.

As far as Carlisle being in England, technically you're right - it is. But it wasn't always the case. There is quite the strong feeling among some Scots that Carlisle is stolen land, and rightfully belongs to Scotland... But, yes, right now, today, Carlisle is technically on soil governed by England outright... ;)
