I was thinking the same thing. This girl can speak like the world. lol I thought they were over doing it with two languages, but then she kept switching. >.< I guess she studied cultures and language sometime in her life.

Why? because I think its a nod to Andrew Divoff (Patchy) ;) who speaks 9 different languages.

But at the least they are showing someone who is highly intelligent. Someone who was chosen by Penny because of ability to communicate with anyone she encounterd on this unknown island--and for us viewers... someone who may wind up communicating with unknown isalnd native's we have not seen yet.

I believe (and could be wrong because it is late and I have read many posts) someone here confirmed she spoke Portugese when she said what Mikael translated to Desmond "Thank you." She apparently said "I am not alone." in Portugese.

What I found odd was her speaking three different languages before English, while the entire time she is surrounded by people speaking English or broken English. :confused:

And NOT starting with (presumably, because of the book) her native language when she was semi-conscious.

This makes her appear very mysterious. Who is she and why does she speak so many languages? Was she trying to communicate with Patchy without being understood by the Losties?
