View Full Version : If the sub truly is gone...WHY???
molly1977 04-26-2007, 10:58 AM After last week, I wasn't sure what was going on with Juliet. This week, she spoke three little words that sent me spinning. "I hate you". She hates Ben, why would she make a deal with him?
Juliet wants nothing more than to get off this island. We have seen it in her actions, in her history. She knows that all communications are down and that their only way off the island was the sub. If the sub really did blow up and she could never leave the island, why would she work for a man that she hates? What could Ben have promised her? Is it possible that there is another way off the island that only Ben knows about and he promised Juliet a way off?
lostnthesoutheast 04-26-2007, 11:04 AM I think that Juliet is working with Ben in order to protect her family. She knows first hand (by witnessing the death by bus of her ex husband) how much power the Others have and what extreme measures they are willing to take in order to get what they want.
Amber 04-26-2007, 11:07 AM I was thinking about this yesterday, and if I were in Juliet's place I'd be trying to get as many people together as possible to fight against Ben and take him down. I'm betting that if Ben weren't around anymore, many of the Others would want to leave the island as well.
maverick06 04-26-2007, 11:13 AM maybe there is another way on/off than the sub. thats my bet...
and regardless she is pretty much his prisioner on the island

I agree. Juliet made a promise to Ben that she would stay and help them, if she openly breaks that promise they will do something horrible to her and her sister. Ben showed her that they have no problem messing with Rachel's life. Juliet is stuck. I think she wants to help the losties, but she has to make it look like she's still working with Ben in order for her sister to be safe.
Maybe there are other ways off the island. I think that Juliet believes that Jacob has the power to get her home.

I was thinking this but the comms are down and she knows it. Ben can't use her Rachel and Julian as leverage because Juliet knows that he has no way to contact the outside. This has me so confused.
Semisan 04-26-2007, 11:40 AM But the communications to the outside world are down...so there isn't any way that Ben can tell the outside world she isn't working for Ben. I don't get why she is working for him
but I keep coming up with the possibility that Juliet is also pregnant. Not by Jack, but by the other guy...
Ben may know, he may not. But she is working with him cause now her life is in danger and she NEEDS that cure.
Aggie00 04-26-2007, 11:45 AM I agree with whomever mentioned that Ben cannot harm Juliet's sister. They cannot communicate with the outside world, so we can take that factor out regarding what is motivating Juliet to work with Ben.
I don't know what kind of cure Ben can offer when he can't even cure himself. So why depend on him. Juliet could be playing Ben; it's a possibility. But for what benefit?
MtnGrlbytheBay 04-26-2007, 11:46 AM Yes, I agree with my co-worker. We both think that JULIET IS PREGNANT.
NotAllThoseWhoWander 04-26-2007, 11:49 AM maybe there is another way on/off than the sub. thats my bet...
"It'll be a little intense."
"The last part is always a little bit bumpy."
Sine when do people say things like that about a submarine? Unless the island is surrounded by, like, whirlpools and mines, I think peacetime submarine rides tend to be smooth rides. I think the Sub was a con. I don't think it's the only way onto the Island.
molly1977 04-26-2007, 11:56 AM Yes, I agree with my co-worker. We both think that JULIET IS PREGNANT.
I never even thought that shecould be pregnant. Juliet knows the consequences and that the island men have some kind of super sperm thing happening. She is too smart to get pregnant. But to play devil's advocate...she would be almost three months pregnant now, right? Knowing that all Ben wants is children on the island, why would he have her condemned to death (remember it was Jack's deal that saved her) or branded or left to fend for herself with the Losties (nobody knew what their reaction would be) if she was pregnant? It doesn't add up to me. I feel like there has to be something that we are all missing.
sheba 04-26-2007, 12:08 PM Do we know the communications are down? Or that the sub was blown up? Sure, we've been told these things, and shown these things, but we have also been told and shown that that what we're told and shown doesn't mean diddly squat. Our *evidence* has no value, because we can't count on either hearing or seeing the truth in anyone or anything.
Mikhail was dead ... killed before our very eyes. No, wait, he's ok. People who are dead, are dead! Unless they're not. Kate's choice will be definitive! Unless by definitive you mean definite, then not so much. The Others aren't so bad! In season 2 we'll show them to you and you'll change your mind about thinking they are evil! Ummm, yeah.
*heavy sigh*
I've come to the conclusion that conjecture is pointless, since we have no concrete basis for anything. Frustratingly fun is fast becoming madeningly irritating.
jezbo 04-26-2007, 06:03 PM We're supposed to assume now (with those 3 words) that Juliet IS working for Ben BUT is being forced into it and doesn't like it, so is a good person really. But even if that's true I still don't like or trust her. What if she said those 3 words because she had the sudden feeling after turning the tape off that Sun had followed her into the hatch and overheard her message?
