Hockeyking 05-09-2007, 10:00 PM Wow. This was the best episode of the season. Ben murdering all of the Dharma people and helping the hostiles was a surprise. I thought when he was speaking to a empty chair he was indeed fooling Locke, but after watching what happened next has me excited about next week. I don't want to say anything to spoil the surprise but the ending is right up there with who shot J.R. Can't wait till next week.
jbritz22 05-09-2007, 10:02 PM What a sweet episode. Kinda sucks what happened to locke though, totally wasnt expecting that!
R S Lee 05-09-2007, 10:04 PM Holy :censored:!!! This was quite possibly the best hour of television ever. I can't even find the words to describe that ending without sounding like a complete idiot.
Crazyfrench 05-09-2007, 10:12 PM Thousands of people are going to be sooooooooo shocked tonight !
ventro 05-09-2007, 10:12 PM My favorite episode of LOST ever.
Jack Sawyer 05-09-2007, 10:13 PM Wow. It must have been a terrific episode if Im posting for the first even on The Fuselage just to say so. Awesome! Well done!!! Definitely my favorite episode of the season thus far.
cylune 05-09-2007, 10:17 PM Oh wow!!! Great episode! I was glued to the tv screen. Lots of answers to the mysteries. But I don't believe the ending for one second. But if there's a small chance it's true, then I'm beyond shocked.
Kate731 05-09-2007, 10:18 PM I honestly didn't think they could top "The Brig", but wow. I mean WOW. Now that was a fantastic episode. Everyone who hasn't seen it yet is in for a couple shocks, and some truly fantastic scenes.
The Jacob scene was really, really creepy. I loved it, and I'm really intrigued as to what Jacob is. And the ending.. jeez.
There were so many other things we learned in the episode too that are getting overshadowed by the couple really big ones. I really need to just regroup and watch it again I think.
On another note, I simply cannot watch any other television shows anymore. Nothing compares. Not even close. This season has just been getting better and better.
This episode blew me away.
A lot of answers and ONE SHOCKING ending.
Damn, this really was a GREAT episode.
gusthepolarbear 05-09-2007, 10:41 PM the language filter will not allow me to accurately describe my amazement
Dany_E 05-09-2007, 10:45 PM Geez Louise!!!!!!!!
No words - This one definitely went to 11!
Best ever - nothing even came close until now.
whispervixen 05-09-2007, 11:46 PM OMG.. that was...OMG... wow. I am in shock and still have shivers down my spine. That was probably one of the best episodes of the show. ever. I really don't know what to say.. I'm.... I'm in awe.
:jawdrop:
DrShephard 05-10-2007, 12:53 AM This episode was everything that remains great about television. It's hard to match up with the finales, but even then, this might have been Lost's best episode ever. I was glued to the screen for a solid hour. Wow.
And John Locke will be back--the island will never let him go that easily.
lockesmithe 05-10-2007, 12:54 AM I may be wrong, but I assume that the server overload means that some people liked this episode. Count me among its many admirers.
The A plot with Locke and Ben was exceptional. Those two actors really know how to fill a screen. I was starting to fall for the idea that Jacob was imagined by Ben, then I was relieved and thrilled when the hocus pocus went down. I watched Lost with two other people tonight, one of which is a hard-core fan while the other has begun watching lost with us periodically. Oddly enough, it was the Lost newbie who saw flashes of Jacob on the screen twice, while the other viewer saw him once. Me? Nada. Screencaps here I come. The ending was terrific, but if I was Ben, I think I would have put a few more bullets into Locke, the guy the island instantly healed upon his arrival. Why, I don't think Locke will even have a scar where he got shot, but I bet he's gonna be a bit angry at Ben. And Ben doesn't seem to have much support amongst the Others right now, including Alex who seemed to give Locke the gun not to deal with Jacob; rather, to use against her "father" who she assumed would double-cross Locke. Oh, speaking of Alex, I wonder how shaky Ben would get if he knew Danielle was armed with dynamite. Ben might be in a little trouble.
Ben's flashbacks involving both his history and that of the DHARMA initiative were superb. That youngster did a good job as the boy Ben. I was even feeling sorry for that boy, even knowing what a manipulative scum he would become. Talk about "Cats in the Cradle....."
The brief snippets of the other Losties were interesting as well, even if these scenes served little more than to show an increased friction amongst the group while seemingly setting up a plan of action against an apparent Others' attack.
Lost is really hitting stride now. We have one more episode before the finale. I just hope the Lost folks can continue the momentum until (and through) the final show of the season.
Somewhere out there, there's a man healing in a mass grave. Locke might not be as kind to Ben in their next meeting as he was in his last meeting with his father.
Great episode---a 10.
DrUrbino 05-10-2007, 01:26 AM I absolutely LOVED it. Another terrific episode in a string of many, many good ones!
brermike 05-10-2007, 01:44 AM Again, I really ejoyed this episode. I am giving it a 9. I would have liked some more beach storyline with them talking with Naomi and/or Jack and Juliet. Otherwise, I really liked the Ben flashback. I thought it was interesting that he was born outside of Portland. I wonder if Portland has more importance to the show? I liked how the whispers returned this week. I am really starting to think the purple sky somehow affected the whispers since we haven't heard them since. Throughout the episode I had accepted the fact that Jacob wasn't real so I was quite shocked when he went all poltergeist in the house. And I got a chill when I saw a flash of a man sitting in the chair!! I paused it in HD on my dvr and the profile kind of looks like Locke but with hair!! Could Locke be Jacob?! Not sure how but that would be quite a twist. Anyway, I really dug this episode. I would be bummed if Locke is indeed dead, but I have a feeling he will be back somehow. Can't wait until next week!
ANTIDEAD 05-10-2007, 02:08 AM This is the best episode of the entire series for me. Even people I know who have strayed away from Lost said it was awesome.
outta_control 05-10-2007, 02:13 AM Awesome episode. I hope Locke survives. Can't wait until next week. I dislike Ben even more after this episode. So much suspense!
Amazing. Thought-provoking. I need oxygen! My heart is still going thump THUMP. And it killed me not being able to get on the TB to add joyous noises with the rest of the "I loved it" crowd.
And OMG, LOCKE! He sure was vicious tonight.
What a show! What a wild ride.
chooch850 05-10-2007, 03:58 AM I usually don't post but...holy crap, what a great episode. Richard is soooooo old and yet still so handsome.....why???? And I can only hope that Locke will once again survive. Seeing all those Dharma people dead in the compound was just shocking...... Just WOW!!!
thedaveeyres 05-10-2007, 06:32 AM Bloody hell!!
Great Ep. fantastic!
Mantorras 05-10-2007, 07:35 AM Amazing!
Loved the Jacob scene!
drb666 05-10-2007, 07:40 AM WOW!This is the best season of Lost!!!!
novagator 05-10-2007, 07:41 AM Wow!! what a great episode!!!
palomino_grl78 05-10-2007, 08:30 AM Loved loved loved it. Some questions were answered and even more were posed. That to me makes for a great LOST episode. Plus a great cliff hanger, and the really creepy scene in the cabin that was reminiscent of Carrie, what more could you ask for?
LostInJack 05-10-2007, 08:46 AM FANTASTIC  Season 3 is going down in history as the best TV EVER
Can't think of a single moment I didn't like. Very exciting ep.
sulyvin 05-10-2007, 08:47 AM That was probably one of the best episodes ever. Of course it scared me silly, that whole Jacob poltergeist like thing. (In my grandparents house we'd see things go flying across the room for no logical reason. My great-grandfather did die suddenly in the house.) I don't believe that Jacob is a ghost however, but I really had a hard time sleeping last night.
And Locke?!
Joshypoo 05-10-2007, 09:09 AM I LOVED IT! The writers managed to wow and shock us for the second time in a row. The performances were stellar - particularly the Locke and Ben scenes. The ending was mind-blowing. It doesn't get any better!
palomino_grl78 05-10-2007, 09:09 AM I forgot to mention my absolute favorite part of last nite's eppy...Uncle Rico (Napolean Dynamite)as Ben's dad. I knew he looked familiar and it dawned on me this morning who he was. Classic.
lambchops972 05-10-2007, 09:24 AM I thought this was one of the best episodes we had had. When that stuff happened with Locke, Ben and the house I went flying into the other room and I'm 34 years old. I felt like a little kid. I loved every minute of it.
Passport 05-10-2007, 09:30 AM I loved how the writers made us sympathise with young Ben, how his Father was mentally abusing him by blaming him for the death of his mother, as well as being heavy handed and an alcoholic. I enjoyed Ben's friendship with Annie and as we saw at the beginning of the episode, how that friendship stills plays a major part in his life. I think that there is definately some important history between Ben and Annie that could show us just what exactly Ben's motivations are.
It was very interesting how the writers showed that little Ben had very little control over his life and where it was going. He was in some utopian caste system and was being groomed to be someone very special in scientific terms. Slowly though we saw him take control of his own life, using the crossing the fence as a visible metaphor for Ben changing direction. We saw his ruthlessness begin when he tested the fence with the bunny. This episode was all about Ben's origens - and I still have plenty questions about him.
There were things that disappointed me about this episode too - but this isn't the place for that.
Lockefan 05-10-2007, 09:39 AM Exceptionally well conceived, written and acted episode. I felt that Ben's backstory was especially well done and did what LOST does best: show us the complexity of each character and story (see my thread here: http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=78967).
Very brilliant. However, if Locke dies, they will have to reserve space for me at the same institution where Leonard is currently housed. Didn't love Locke getting shot! Didn't love that, no sirree, bobtail! However, everything else was brilliant.
fruitloop 05-10-2007, 09:54 AM Great Epi! Loved it.....but I hope Locke is not dead.....he will need "island" help for sure....Glad Juliet isn't all that bad....
sickotriz 05-10-2007, 10:29 AM It does not surprise me that Drew f'n Goddard worked on this episode.
I had high expectations when I learned that he was joining the writing team this year (he also worked on Angel, and I think Buffy, and did some really great work on those shows) and my expectations have been surpassed.
My hat is off to the whole writing team and everyone involved with this episode.
lostgurl 05-10-2007, 10:43 AM Every week I think that the episode will never get any better than that, but again I'm proven wrong. Last week was amazing and this week is even more so. As I say every time... Michael Emerson is one of the greatest actors on television. I loved every single second of it. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Amazing episode.
I thought this was one of the best episodes we had had. When that stuff happened with Locke, Ben and the house I went flying into the other room and I'm 34 years old. I felt like a little kid. I loved every minute of it.
:24: I knew he looked familiar. That's awesome.
Lost_In_NJ 05-10-2007, 11:04 AM One word...WOW! I would say more, but I am still in shock.
MinnieVanMommie 05-10-2007, 12:36 PM I have to say this is the first epi that I have been excited about for awhile.
I never jumoed ship...not for one second but I didnt have anything to contribute at all...and I didnt feel good either...but I would have addicted myself to this as I have in the past...Just didnt have anything to add or talk about....
I have kinda lost it the last few weeks..and even my postings have changed since last season...I was getting bored a bit...but this has roped me back in locke line and sinker!!!
So for that reason alone..I love it!!!
Superb. Bloody superb. One of the best single episodes of any show I've ever seen. I don't know where to start. Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn are beyond words at times, and they both shone in this episode. The A plot was great. I had no idea which way it was going to go. People had suggested the "imaginary Jacob" idea to me before, and I disliked it. That is until we saw it, and I was hooked. But then they threw that theory away and now I've no idea what's happening. But I love it. A brief (and slightly unsatisfying) explanation of Mikhail's "death", and I love how excited (if thats the right word) he was about what he'd heard from Naomi.
The B plot was good. I enjoyed every scene, but felt like last week, it was abandoned too early in the episode. I feel the final B-plot scene with Jack and Juliet's announcement could have come in a little later in the episode. Fantastic to see Sayid taking charge, and I'm hoping he plays a major role in the next 2 episodes (and I'm praying he's not killed off). I'm so excited about where Lost is going now it's unbelievable. I haven't seen this into a drama for years (if ever).
And the flashbacks were great. Nothing really spectacular, it was all very low key. But that's what was great about it. The mere mention of the fence, a brief shot of DHARMA taking arms, Ben murdering his father with such a blank expression.
Overall probably the best episode Lost has had thus far, helped endlessly by the great momentum that's been buildign these last few weeks. I have to admit to losing faith earlier in the season, and there were a couple of just poor episodes. But Lost is back, and better than ever. 10/10. The only way you can dislike this is if the Jacob thing throws you, because it was such a beautifully crafted and expertly handled episode, there's no way to dislike it on a technical level.
realityaxe 05-10-2007, 01:17 PM Amazing Episode! I had chills during the Jacob scene! GO Locke GO, you can still be saved! Jacob will protect thee.
Ben is a liar, but we all knew that. John is FINALLY BACK, then he gets shot, only to propel him to a total Jesus-like status. We all know he's coming back, ok we all HOPE he is.
ravenmoon 05-10-2007, 02:27 PM Last week blew me away, mainly on a totaly emotional level because I adore Sawyer's character, and this week I am totally blown away mentally. SO much to take in!
When I first saw Ben talking to the chair I was like "bloody fantastic Jacob's a chair and Ben in a basket case" but I loved the way that scene built and built and became much creepier, and then the totally horror movie style crazy things flying about, and those glimpses of Jacob! And his voice sent shivers down my spine! I was seriously freaked out!
Like man6y of the big KLost reveals that they build I was afraid this one would be disapointing, or I guess I had no idea how they could do it spectacularly, but the3y sure proved me wrong! I bet people have havihng great fun trying to work that whole thing out!
And what's the deal with Richard (who looked totally hot with long hair!) not aging even slightly? How cool is that?
And I was like "OMG!!!!" when ben shot Locke, I was so not expecting that! But there is no way he's dead! Jacob/the island will heal him and he's so going to usurp Ben's position after the Other's "purge" the Losties!
The only thing I was slightly disapointed in was the fact that the B plot was hardly addressed and we have to wait until next week, but considering the wealth of information given in this episode I don;t really care about that!
Oh and sawyer hiding in the bushes waiting for Sayid cracked me up! I love the dynammic between those two, and I hope in the last 3 episodes it's explored more!
One of the best episodes of the series . I'm usually a spoiler hog, but I'm glad I wasn't for this one. The scene in the house was classic great horror movie stuff and I half expected Benry to go into his SAW mode. Poor Locke though. I hope he's as dead as Mikhail was.
Richards not aging was just plain creepy . Best of all Benry's dad was Uncle Rico (John Gries) who in real life is younger than Micheal Emerson. That poor guy must get tired of bad wigs.
Still a great show!
Extremely well done! I have so much to re-watch and talk about. Hasn't happened in awhile.
I did feel bad for little Ben.
entil2001 05-10-2007, 07:53 PM I think this episode speaks for itself, so I'll leave that to the review. I'll use this space to mention how happy I am that the series has a clear plan moving forward. This is a situation few shows can enjoy in this day and age, and it should give the writers a chance to map out the series more definitively. More importantly, no one has a basis for complaining the the narrative is being "strung out", because the length and structure of the series is set. Sure, the network could change things if things really go south, but now the audience need do nothing more than sit back and enjoy the ride.
Here's my review for Lost 3.20: "The Man Behind the Curtain":
http://www.entil2001.com/series/lost/season3/lost3-20.html
Overall, this was a strong episode with a number of implications for the overall mythology and the rest of the third season. While not as revelatory as some fans might have hoped, this installment does answer some pressing questions, raising several others in the process. With a clear sense of how much time is still left for the answers to come, it’s easy to be patient and let the story evolve as it must.
lament this 05-10-2007, 08:18 PM The episode was awesome! It was dang goood!
flyer61055 05-10-2007, 10:47 PM This episode was excellent, one of the best episodes of LOST ever. Nuff said!
BlueCamelGuy 05-11-2007, 04:21 AM Wow!!! You know, the season opening six episode mini-arc didn't impress me at all, but I stuck with it. Even a few afterward were kinda humdrum. But since FBYE, I've been really entertained, and with this eppy, I'm pround to be a Lost fan. The creepiness of Jacob was on par with the first time I heard/saw Smokie in the pilot. I'm sorry, but if all of this was resolved by the writers early in Season 1, I give them ALL credit for being the elite writers in entertainment, PERIOD!
Helen_ 05-11-2007, 09:09 AM Maybe it was the best Lost episode ever. I'm so impressed!
totally agree and am so glad that we are finally being filled!
carorama 05-11-2007, 03:15 PM I was reading the "Didn't Love It" thread and I'm really disappointed some people couldn't see the brilliance of this episode. I loved it. Every minute of it was emotional and engaging. The story telling was impressive.
i agree but also think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but i think for any episode there are always going to be people who love it and people who hate it, but I LOVED IT!!!
Locke and Key 05-11-2007, 08:14 PM Maybe it was the best Lost episode ever. I'm so impressed!
this is totally up there as one of the best. In my top 3 for sure.
Jessyheyitsme 05-11-2007, 09:21 PM I for one felt that the story is coming full circle. I feel like yelling from the roof tops to everyone who was saying that Lost had lost it HA!!! okay so I go a little overboard. But I really really loved this episode.
your right it kinda of does seem to be comming full circle.
LOCKE THE HATCH 05-13-2007, 05:51 PM gave it a 10. ben is evil and though the flashbacks somehow gaves us a peek at his motivations, i hate him for pulling that trigger to locke! what's lost without locke? but i love it! i love the ending! shocking but i just lurve it!!!!
Tom_Zarek 05-13-2007, 07:21 PM Besides the Pilot episode, (I mean how could any episode of any TV show <Besides Battlestar Galactica> compare with the pilot episodes of Lost), I would have to say that this is my favorite episode so far.
outta_control 05-13-2007, 09:02 PM Best episode this season for sure.
nessjscott 05-14-2007, 04:34 AM OMG!!!!!!!
That was the best episode ever. I couldnt take my eyes away even for a second.

IslandChaplain 05-14-2007, 01:14 PM I loved it, too. I am amazed at how many people think it's tops, EVER. WOW. I guess I will always be partial to the reveals of the Hatch in season two..those eps were BOMB.COM!!
This one was really, really good. I just don't think Ben should take over the entire show.
Locke is not dead. He will be healed, watch. My woman pointed out that it was a little unbelievable for her that Ben didn't kill Locke. She knew he was going to shoot him, which I didn't; Locke giving him the info and then not getting shot anyways was a little much for her.
GREAT revelations!
AMEN
IC
Auron 05-14-2007, 01:23 PM one of the best ever episodes of the show...thrown up about a million more questions though :) but a cracker
i really hope locke doesnt die! but i think he may
sock_heaven 05-14-2007, 03:51 PM My first thought, when the epi ended, was "NOOOOOOOOO!!! He shot my honey!!!!!" I love Locke and always will. He must return!
This was a great episode. I haven't felt this awed by Lost since "Walkabout". Ben's childhood was so sad; no wonder he turned sociopath at an early age. Locke beating up Mikhail, asserting his authority even over Ben was jaw-dropping. Jacob's freakout was CREEPY.
War is coming.
prospero 05-14-2007, 04:11 PM Loved it. Baby Benry, the purge, Ben had a little girlfriend somewhere. Uncle Rico is Ben's dad, Biblical references. Jacob is a pirate, or at least someone from the Black Rock...Loved it...
Trevski 05-15-2007, 08:06 AM Ben had a little girlfriend somewhere.
D'you reckon he killed her too in the purge?
Tom_Zarek 05-15-2007, 01:24 PM He might have, but in the podcast they said that we would see in season 4 what hapened to her.
lost is like shakespeare, you never know if someones dead until you have concrete evidence. and i thought that the ship was a slave ship not a pirate ship
1dimpleonly 05-15-2007, 11:21 PM I loved it! Very exciting epi,..with lots of answers regarding Ben. Outstanding!!!
Tjen750 05-16-2007, 04:03 PM Absolutely loved this epi. Great stuff.. !
But I still don't believe there's a Jacob. I'd rather think that Ben is the ultimate nutcase and that the few frames of Jacob were in fact a hallucination that Ben was having (similar to Hurley "seeing" Dave in the Dave epi... he was actually making him up), and that it was Ben saying "Help me..!".
Locke rulez ! He survivezzz...
Didn't like the Jack 'n Juliet scene. I think (for no particular reason, just a hunch) that Jack is going to screw up big time in the next epis, trying to get the losties organized, but getting it all wrong.
Naomi rulez too. She'll team up with Locke one way or another, just to get Des out.
Honestly, can't wait for the season to end.. so I can take a holiday and go sailing. Kornati and Cornetto, you know :-)
cu (in an empty chair)

lovebenlinus 05-16-2007, 07:58 PM After the episode, I was like: WOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW :o
Loved it!!
