Wow, very good episode and nice twist! Season finale looks so mouth watering:cool:
caforrest2047 05-16-2007, 10:13 PM I can't wait for the finale. Awesome episode.
The Shapeshifter 05-16-2007, 10:13 PM Loved it! As a Charlie fan, I'm still so nervous for him, but it was AMAZING to finally see him get to come off as a hero, rather than a basket case. Nice use of flashbacks to really tie in with the on-island story. And they're certainly setting up one hell of a finale! (Although I didn't see the preview...)
Kate731 05-16-2007, 10:52 PM Good episode, and I loved the Charlie stuff in it. He really, really came across as a hero here. The scene with Nadia set up for that, and at the end I just knew he wouldn't let Desmond risk his life for him. I was scared for a moment, but in the end I knew he would step up and be the hero.
Sayid was awesome as usual, telling Jack to act like a leader. Actually Jack was pretty good in this episode, I'm not annoyed with him anymore.
pacejunkie 05-17-2007, 12:12 AM I have never cried so much in an episode of Lost. That was so gutwrenching, so angsty, so sweet, so difficult to watch. Charlie's my hero. Best Lost episode ever. He better not die. It would be too cruel.
That was an excellent set-up to the season finale1 I can't wait for next week!
oceanic_lisa 05-17-2007, 12:17 AM PJ, I thought of you this whole episode. :)
Great episode, great acting too... Dom really knocked it out of the park. I was choked up from the moment Liam gave him the ring all the way until I started crying when he had his moment with Claire. I was on the edge of my seat practically the last three minutes of the show.
Krystal 05-17-2007, 12:20 AM I have never been a fan of Charlie, but this episode changed my mind completely. I was so heart broken towards the end, because I really thought that he was going to dive underwater and drown, but was over joyed when he didn't. I have never felt those emotions before when watching a Charlie episode so kudos to Dom for a job well done.
cdngurl26 05-17-2007, 12:20 AM how wonderfully heartbreaking charlies charecter became tonight ....god bless little buddy...LOVED IT.
Joshypoo 05-17-2007, 12:21 AM I did love it! Props to the writers for such a great script, and of course to Dom for his acting ability. He was very subtle tonight. He seemed to dig deep to bring his emotions to the surface, but had the wherewithall to not bang us over the head with them. It was superb!
lostgurl 05-17-2007, 12:21 AM Heartbreaking episode. Last season it went to Rose and Bernard, this season it goes to Charlie. Charlie is a hero, and he has been for a while according to his flashback. I hateee those cliffhangers though. I need to know what happens, NOW! :24:
Great episode. Plus we got Vincent, Richard, Rose/Bernard, Nadia, and Jack goodness!
Cardielost 05-17-2007, 12:25 AM I don't think for a minute they'll kill Charlie now, but even if they did, this script was one heck of a gift to Dom, and he got every nuance out of it.
Now, if they could have just had it rain inside the hotel for the ring exchange. There was water coming down or nearby for every one of the other Greatest Hits.
Cardie
TheDome 05-17-2007, 12:27 AM Excellent episode as I've said elsewhere. Dom knocked it out of the park again, great flashbacks, tied things in very well with the on island stuff, and set the "calm before the storm" feeling very well.
Dom and Ian acted the absolute hell out of that last scene on the boat, kudos to them.
lockesmithe 05-17-2007, 12:33 AM Well, I was prepared for a let-down episode as the writers laid the foundation for the finale. I was pleasantly surprised to see yet another great episode, this one the saddest Lost episode of them all.
The episode was well written as a tear-jerker, and Dom did a great job with the material. It was an emotionally draining episode, worrying about Charlie and, at the same time, admiring Dom's work and wondering what his status will be after the season.
Lost continues its string of great episodes. I've noticed that the episodes seem to last longer than they used to earlier this season, when I found the episodes were....um...less than great. A lot of island action to go along with the Charlie show tonight. It was great watching Danielle walk out of the jungle on cue--I love the Danielle character. Watching them set up for the ambush only to learn that they can't finish their plans, and seeing that three "shooters" will have to remain behind paralleled Charlie's situation well. Everything's set up for a thrilling finale.
I usually don't feel sad when Lost tries to pull the heart strings. I've only felt sad during a few Lost scenes. It's a credit to the writers, those involved with scoring the episode, and--especially--Dom that this episode worked so well. Dom really brought Charlie to life as Charlie was facing his heroic demise. Thanks.
wolffootball37 05-17-2007, 12:37 AM Wow!!! I dont know when ive ever been so moved by something on t.v.! Even reading the spoilers, i was ready to cry! I am a big fan of Charlie and Dom, and have always been, such a great episode to either salute him (if he dosnt die) or send him off (if he indeed does) The flashback method was very very well done also. Just a very intense episode, cant wait till the finale next week!!!
Edit: ok beginning of the season, i labled Eddie and Adam as the two worst writers, i must say though, after what theyve brought this season, including this one, they are truley two of the best ones we have! Cheers to them!!!
lostmio 05-17-2007, 12:37 AM I usually don't feel sad when Lost tries to pull the heart strings. I've only felt sad for a few Lost scenes. It's a credit to the writers, those involved with scoring the episode, and--especially--Dom that this episode worked so well. Dom really brought Charlie to life as Charlie was facing his heroic demise. Thanks.
Yeah that. And more. Dom, the writers, the director, Giacchino, de Ravin, and Cusick all ruled.
Great Des moments, great Hurley moment, to-die-for Claire moments.
But it was Dom all the way tonight.
Loved loved loved it.
bryanc28 05-17-2007, 12:38 AM What an absolutely amazing episode! And the buildup to Charlie's "Death" was brilliant even as I thought to myself, "Self, they've done this whole setup too many times to do it again..."
Bravo! Give us some more next week!
lockesmithe 05-17-2007, 12:44 AM ...great Hurley moment...
I agree. The Charlie-Hurley moment was especially poignant, with Charlie trying to spare both Hurley's physical well-being (no boat for you) as well as his emotions by not letting Hurley in on what Des has informed him. I an still getting a little choked up thinking about this episode.
I cried the entire epi. Such a great episode and I hope charlie doesn't die.
lost_gypsy 05-17-2007, 12:50 AM Bravo! Loved the fast pace.
urbandruid 05-17-2007, 12:55 AM I'm not usually big on Charlie episodes...but that freakin' rocked!
The only thing that could've made it better was a shot of Ezra James Sharkington...
EkoJunior 05-17-2007, 12:55 AM I agree!
This episode is the perfect example of why I love this show so much. I really loved the idea of showing the flashbacks through Charlie's list, counting down. And, I knew what number one would be - not the actual moment obviously, but I knew it'd be a moment with Claire.
Wow. What an episode and what a set up for the next. I can't friggin' wait!
brermike 05-17-2007, 01:07 AM Another great episode. I gave it a 9. I loved the scene between Desmond and Charlie on the boat. I also loved how all the characters had a bunch of moments in the episode, like Sun & Jin, Rose & Bernard. If Charlie does end up dying, they gave him a great, heroic, and touching send off. Off all the characters that have died, he got the most build up. However, maybe now he will live!!
Guinevere 05-17-2007, 01:15 AM Great episode! Great buildup to the finale. Great writing for all the Losties! I was watching it and saying, "Charlie, you're gonna make me cry!" Finally, when he was talking to Des in the boat, a tear slid down my cheek. Loved the look on Charlie's face at the end. Helloooooo ladies!!! Cracked me up at the same time it scared the pants off of me.
I have never cried so much in an episode of Lost. That was so gutwrenching, so angsty, so sweet, so difficult to watch. Charlie's my hero. Best Lost episode ever. He better not die. It would be too cruel.
I thought of you during the whole episode, PJ.

Cardie, I didn't notice that until I read your post. So true!

**MOD edited**
such an amazing episode. LOVED IT. I LOVE CHARLIE AGAIN!
and it was a tearjerker too. pacejunkie, im with you. I cried during the last 10 mins and Charlie was nowhere near my favorite character before the episode started... so... WOW.
Carlo210 05-17-2007, 01:34 AM What an emotional and riveting episode.
Charlie may have become my second favorite character!
lostfan4ever 05-17-2007, 01:52 AM Best Charlie ep yet! This is the kind of Charlie stuff I've been waiting to see. I sure hope TPTB aren't toying with us by keeping him alive at the end of this one. Tonight was heartbreaking enough. Let Charlie live!
lostinSLC 05-17-2007, 02:00 AM Oh my gosh, I am still bawling. I have tried to go back and watch parts of it, but it is so heartbreaking and gutwrenching.. seriously Dom was AMAZING tonight. Loved the whole thing. I am going out on a limb to say that I even liked it better than MFT.
pacejunkie 05-17-2007, 02:05 AM I'm basking in the Charlie love right now. I'm seriously touched to see so many fans finally come to see the Charlie I know and love. I always knew this was who he was, which was why my faith in him never wavered. I'll defend him to the end. The unsung hero of Lost.
lostfan4ever 05-17-2007, 02:10 AM Amen to that Pace! We knew this Charlie was in there somewhere! I really hope he survives and we get to see more of this Charlie next year.
lostinSLC 05-17-2007, 02:14 AM whoops, had to delete because I posted in the wrong thread. *blush*
Still loved it. :)
Pacejunkie, CBN, and other Charlie super-fans whose handles I don't know: I'm really happy for you guys tonight!
Ellis 05-17-2007, 05:20 AM uhm.
hm.
what can i say that hasn't already been said?
me and my family are now huge fans of Charlie (even though I always stuck him out) and i felt myself tearing up at certain parts... namely with Hurley and his final look before the BIG plunge.
if he does die, it was a great send-off, but if he doesn't-- more power to you!
Captain_Falafel 05-17-2007, 05:30 AM I think I'll have to post here several times to express all the things I loved about this episode. After my first viewing I think my favourite scene was...
Charlie and Nadia. I loved that the writers didn't have Charlie turning into some actiony super fighter (like they often do with Sawyer or Sayid) with the mugger. He just clumped him and told him to sling his hook. Any ordinary person could have done that! What made Charlie a hero was that he went to help Nadia when other people had turned their backs. I just loved the sentiment of that.
Nadia's line "You are a hero, sir. Don't let anyone tell you different" was beautifully delivered. It could have been corny, but the actress totally sold it.
McGuane 05-17-2007, 07:50 AM I loved it for its pure simplicity. What a relief from the increasingly complex, convulted goings-on we have gotten week after week. This was so Season 1. Heartfelt, character and relationship driven, and straightforward. If we had 3 seasons of such eps, it would have been trite and boring. But since things have gotten so "out there", this was a wonderful, simple interlude.
At first I was a bit disappointed that the Charlie/Claire goodbye was so short and simple, and that yet again, she was annoyed with him. I thought I had read they were going to have a goodbye shagging. But then I realized their last scene was absolutely perfect, and totally in keeping with their whole relationship. TPTB have always said they wanted C/C to be sort of pure and friendship-based, and that's exactly how it ended. Best kiss they have ever shared, and that was enough. Sudden spoken declarations of undying love would not have been in keeping with the tenative, mostly unspoken attachment we have seen. Besides, exposition could never have matched the wonderful nonverbal expressions of devotion. The way Claire smiled at him after they kissed, they look on his face as he walked away, and the shot of the DS ring in the crib said it all.
Some may declare it cheesy, but for me it was beautifully written and superbly acted, especially by Dom and Emilie. A simple, wonderful, sweet send off for the show's nicest, if unfortunately most under-explored, relationship.
lostlocke 05-17-2007, 08:15 AM Although Charlie is not my favorite character, I started watching the show for Dom and I love Dom and deep down I love Charlie and DO NOT want him to die. GH was so emotional wasn't it? I really loved this episode and am sitting on the edge of my seat until next week, it can't come soon enough.
Steph 05-17-2007, 08:29 AM I don't normally cry at Lost - only specific moments like the Jack/ Sawyer scene in season one, the Rose and Bernard episode season 2 and only once so far in season 3... with the Jack / Kate walkie scene (although that may be because of my shipping preference *shrug*)
But i Bawled in this ep.... and Charlie isn't even my favourite character - but it was so heartbreaking! especially when he told Aaron he love him... and i was dying to scream at Claire to pick up the damn ring!
But overall great eppy - so excited for next week!
One slight critisim ... the english accents in the flashback :eek2:
sock_heaven 05-17-2007, 09:12 AM I liked this epi. I've always liked the sweetness and purity of Charlie/Claire, and I'll be sad if that relationship ends.
Can't wait till next week!
Lockerox 05-17-2007, 09:13 AM Great epi! Dom did a wonderful job acting it. I felt so sad for Charlie, but so good too because he really was a hero. Too bad Desmond didn't see the people in the Looking Glass, but oh well. Next week looks really good.
Lockefan 05-17-2007, 09:57 AM Okay, I'm on no sleep here, so I hope this post will be coherent and not sound like Pere Ubu lyrics (although I love Pere Ubu). Here goes nothing:
What a poignant, touching, beautiful episode. Dom was so moving as Charlie last night. I loved him reflecting back on all the most important, best moments of his life. I loved him making a list of those moments for Claire and writing as the last thing, "when I met you". So touching and lovely! I loved his little scene with Aaron, especially when he simply said "I love you." I loved the kiss with Claire. I loved the scene with Hurley, especially when Charlie hugged him. It was beautiful when he said "Remember I love you" and then Hurley--God love him!--said something like "Yeah, whatever, love you too." Aaaaaaw! I loved the scene with Desmond in the boat when Desmond offered to take his place. And I loved Charlie leaving the ring that his brother gave him and told him must stay in the family to little Turniphead. Charlie loves Aaron as a son.
The whole episode was just beautifully done and very moving. LOVED IT!
realityaxe 05-17-2007, 10:02 AM what an episode! Charlie is truly the Hero of the Losties, what courage he has to face his death with eyes wide open. His tattoo speaks volumes now! I hafta admit I was hoping he would draw less attention to himself upon enterting the Looking Glass, even though he did just avoid death by mere seconds. The scene between Hurley and Charlie almost had me in tears... makes me want a zombie season even more so, CHARLIE MUST RETURN! :(
bryce110 05-17-2007, 10:21 AM Quite a shocking night for me. First, Melinda is sent home from American Idol... and then I pretty thoroughly enjoyed an episode of Lost! This is about a first for this season. I really liked it, and Charlie is probably one of my least favorite characters at that.
I loved the way they did the flashbacks. Instead of having some kind of arbitrary, forced, tragic backstory, we got just pieces of some light, but significant stuff. I think it worked very well.
I also liked take-charge Jack, and I loved that Danielle was in on the plan.
The ending, for me, was a little weak. Kind of like, "What? Eh..." but it did somewhat intrigue me. Overall, I really liked this episode.
"They already know, Carl... but thanks!"
Trevski 05-17-2007, 11:40 AM Cracking ending to a good episode. The rift between Richard and Ben becomes clearer, Alex suspects Ben isn't her father and there are some touching moments for Charlie. 8/10
Fantastic episode again. The entire episode was crafted perfectly for Charlie's demise (which made most, I'd assume, guess there would be a twist), with the greatest hits, and sayign his goodbyes. Most emotional episode we've had for a while, and beautifully done. When the twist did come it seemed obvious, Desmond decided what many have suggested, that he should take Charlie's place. And just as I was feeling slightly dissapointed BAM, Charlie gives his life (I know he's not dead, but he thinks this is going to kill him) for the good of the group. Only for this to be followed by a completly unexpected twist. Makes me wonder is Juliet still working for the Others? She said it was abandoned, and yet the station was clearly manned. The ONLY way for this to be so without Juliet's knowledge, is if those in the station have been there longer than she has been on the island.
And Desmond's vision suggested Charlie would drown after flicking a switch, leading to the rescue of our Losties... and yet that didn't happen, even without his intevention. Makes me wonder whether his visions are as clear as he thinks. Maybe his visions are partly fake, to make him want Charlie to die. This is the second one he's had which his intervention (or attempted in this episode) would stop a potential rescue (possibly 3rd if you cant Claire's plan with the birds).
The flashbacks were superbly done, seeing Charlie's "greatest hits". Although I've always enjoyed Dominic Monaghan's work, Charlie has never been in my personal top 5 (actually, he's probably 5th... don't know why I lied there). But he really pushed for it last night. His character arc since series one has been one of redemption, which I think he finally achieved with his ultimate sacrifice. I'm slightly worried though... his original arc is complete, will death follow?
Jack and Sayid were great this week. Loved seeing his intensity when Karl came running. From the preview
Sayid, Jin and Bernard look in trouble. Please please please please PLEASE don't let Sayid die. After a relatively quiet season, he's coming to the fore again now. Hopefully this is more because he's gonna be a big player next season, than because they want us to feel for him when he dies.
Overall a superb episode. Not as good as last week, simply because last week was near perfection. But Dominic turned in his best performance so far, and made me really feel for the character (on the same level as Sun a few episodes ago). 9/10. I'm glad I don't have to rate these episodes in terms of a top 5, they're getting too good dammit.
Captain_Falafel 05-17-2007, 03:52 PM Kudos to Adam & Eddie for their writing. They are the BEST for emotional tearjerking scenes. Before now my top emotional Lost moments for me was the Michael/Walt 3 minute reunion and Sun finding out her baby was Jins (both from A&E eps). They were absolutely heartbreaking. In this episode they had about 10 of those heartbreaking moments all focused upon my favourite character - Charlie. His scenes with everyone from Desmond to Hurley to Liam to Claire to Aaron to Nadia...all were beautiful and moving. I don't think I have EVER wanted to see a TV character live more than I want Charlie to live now. If anyone ever deserved to be spared by the Gods it is Charlie. His rejoicing to be alive at the end showed how much he himself wants to live, yet he was prepared to die for his friends rescue, a girl who he has never slept with and a baby that isn't his.
With Charlie it's not just courage. He is all heart.
Charlie wasn't the only couragous one in this episode. I was also very moved by Desmond offering to take Charlies place and Sayid insisting on carrying out the dynamite mission. Big man points all round. Jack was brilliant in this ep too, taking his leadership role by the horns. Rose and Bernard were likewise admirable. Nadia and Liam were terrific in FB appearences (Charlie must live so we can see more of Neil Hopkins in his backstory!).
And the huggy Hurley moment was adorable!
Okay so there wasn't much mythology (but still - new Dharma hatch! That's always tasty), there wasn't much action, it was all geering up for the finale...but as an emotional character-based episode it was immensely satisying.
CaptJamesCook 05-17-2007, 04:09 PM Another great episode in line with the previous 3-4 weeks. The mid-season hiatus has really paid off with tightly scripted, well-coordinated episodes. The writers have done a bang-up job!
Semisan 05-17-2007, 04:27 PM AHHHH FINALLY!!!!! I can post here! Weirdly its the fact that I was spoiled for the last two episodes that really helped me to enjoy this episode! Since I was no longer stressing about that, I could really enjoy the episode!
Charlie really made me tear up a few times, and that shot of him standing on the boat gathering the courage to jump....wow, just wow!!
LOVED LOVED LOVED Sayid in this epi! He is truly our character who sees the truth. I loved the looks he gave Jack conveying much without saying anything!!!
hiccup 05-17-2007, 05:01 PM What other show but Lost can make you feel like a total schizophrenic?!
Last week, I was hot-headedly posting in the "Hated It" thread, and here I am this morning, back to loving it. After my anger and disgust of last week, I feel refreshed about the show today...Kind of like great "making up" sex! Oops...Was that naughty?
Anyhoo, I really felt that last night's ep got back to the heart and soul of what this show is *supposed* to be about: the interplay of human relationships, specifically within the core of the Losties family. It very sharply focused-- even briefly-- on all the characters we care so much about, touching on love, respect, regret, and heroism, just to name a few. Really, really well done.
And kudos to the actors: the fierce (Naveen, Matthew), the poignant (Dominic, Emilie), and the Emmy-worthy subtlety of Ian, whose nuanced performances are always compelling. Great to see Rose and Bernard again. Even to see Sun's tighly-controlled veneer cracking was, brief though the scene was, profoundly moving.
Whew! Glad to be back in here! Next week looks to be rockin'!
Cheers--
*hiccup*
jbdean 05-17-2007, 06:29 PM It is definitely one of my very favorites this season.

GHsI will probably be adding the finale in there but too soon to tell. The interaction between Ian and Dom was just wonderful! I love seeing those two work together. Des and Charlie are a great team!
Maxum 05-17-2007, 08:21 PM Count me in the loved it aisle too.
This was a true ensemble episode, and everyone was fantastic. Everyone worked together. Charlie was superb. Every interaction he had with the Losties: Claire, Aaron, Hurley was bittersweet because the audience knew what he was about to do and that he wasn't coming back. Dom was wonderful.
LOVED Jack! I also loved him and Sayid working together throughout the entire episode. They both came up with plans, dissected them, and then chose the best course of action together. Jack also took every suggestion from Sayid. They were a true team. Geez, I missed that!
Glad to see Rose and Bernard again too. The whole camp was together, with the exception of Locke. I'm sure that's going to be one humdinger of an episode next week, although I don't want to get my hopes up. ABC is notorious for over hyping, but it sure has been set up nicely with this episode.
brettanderson07 05-17-2007, 08:25 PM I really liked this episode, I cannot wait until the finale!
jonboy861 05-17-2007, 08:30 PM I loved it, i think it builds up to the finale quite nicely. A++++
jheri 05-17-2007, 08:56 PM I loved it. Its getting good. I especially liked when Desmond offered to take Charlie's place. Desmond is such a good man.
2manysecrits 05-17-2007, 09:16 PM Thanks to the writers for this script. Someone above called it a gift to Dom and while it may be it just had so much charm and warmth in general which was such a perfect counterpoint to the jeopardy.
Dominic, you nailed this performance. I can't imagine how chuffed you must be over it and rightly so. Well done !
entil2001 05-17-2007, 10:44 PM In writing the review for this episode, I realized that time and scope would only allow me to touch on a select few items. In point of fact, I could have written pages about this episode, because it really starts to pull things together in a satisfying manner. I can't believe that this season was, at one point, being declared a massive failure. The scheduling might have flopped, but the season itself has been a marked improvement over the second season.
Here's my review for Lost 3.21: "Greatest Hits":
http://www.entil2001.com/series/lost/season3/lost3-21.html
Overall, this episode is a powerful prelude to the season finale, setting the stage for the culmination of plot threads that have been building for the past year. By allowing the plot elements to take place within the backdrop of a satisfying character moment, the writers avoided the typical letdown of pre-finale installments. Once again, the writers prove that “Lost” is still at the top of its game.
wsprag 05-17-2007, 10:53 PM I am starting to love Lost more and more (I didn't think that was possible). This show , IMHO, is going to turn out to be one of the top five of all time. What the other four shows are, I have no idea. I loved the name "Looking Glass." Very cool, very suggestive of things to come. Perhaps the accident in the Looking Glass hatch was a revolt against Ben, and Charlie has come into helping hands instead of hostile hands. Time will tell. Great episode. I can't wait for the season finale.
Baileysdad 05-18-2007, 04:18 PM It has taken me a few days and a few viewings to come to a conclusion on this one. While I thought most of the epi was filler and fluff...the entire time Des and Charlie were together saved it for me.
When they where on the beach and Hurley came to them started the huge swell and it reached it's peak when Charlie wrote what he did as his number one and then the final exchange between he and Desmond was STRONG..very well written and superbly acted....
So count me in as loving this epi and looking forward to see how they wrap up season three.
leppardess 05-18-2007, 06:26 PM I had to watch it a few times to actually love it. Of course, when Desmond told Charlie about his vision and when Charlie volunteered to swim to the LG, that was a powerful thing for me. For what it's worth, I've liked Charlie all the way through (but then, I'm a huge LOTR fan too...). He shone in this episode, showing his true self, aside from all his previous life and baggage to be the hero that he was meant to be all along.
The Hurley moment where Charlie hugged him and told him that he loved him... priceless.
DEFinitely a good set up for the finale!
Tjen750 05-18-2007, 06:43 PM Great stuff !! Really enjoyed this one.

ps: anyone happens to have Naomi's satellitephone-number ?
outta_control 05-18-2007, 09:16 PM Good episode! Can't wait for the finale!
evanesco75 05-19-2007, 05:53 AM Absolutely brilliant! Brilliantly written, directed and acted. Dom was fantastic here; hope Charlie survives! And they've done a great job of setting up what should be a mind-blowing finale. This season's turned out amazing, IMO.
Props to Dom! Made me cry
theirishgirl 05-19-2007, 03:13 PM As a fan of LOST from episode one...I've always been content to lurk here and stick to airing my views over at the Fan Forum Lost board..but the episode has compelled me to finally sign up and say what I think in the hope that others see as I do what an exceptional talent tptb have in Dominic Monaghan.
Like everyone else....I have just watched the episode...and I am now wiping tears by the vatload from my eyes...this probably goes down as the episode of Lost most likely to make you bawl like a child ever.
Coming into it as a fan of Domicnic's work and a C/C fan it was always going to be hard for me to watch anyway but by the goddess did Dom hit this one out of the park. He was pitch perfect throughout. Loved him. Even knowing his 'greatest hits' in advance as each one appeared I had a bigger and bigger lump in my throat (and ok tears streaming down my face) until finally when he asked Claire not to worry about him while he was 'away'...man it just hit me in the gut..his face!
Bonding with Aaron, a tender kiss with Claire...passing on the ring to ' his 'family', moments in his life that show that ultimately he was (and IS) a good man..complex, confused and ultimately human? Yes...but one who will go down as a hero.
He believes so little good of himself and yet without a second thought does what he must..his goodbye to Hurley had me sobbing again...and of course his ultimate, his greatest hit, the best moment of his life..'the night I met you'...how could you fail to be moved by such a man?
The determination on his face as he told Desmond what they both knew and he looked out on the horizon before plunging into the depths just broke me completely. The shoe shot was very interesting...on one level because it's a b&w two-tone shoe-very 80's ska which made me wonder if that had any significance..and secondly no shot is in there for nothing...which means somehow, somewhere, even if he's gone..someone will find it one day.
Charlie...Dominic....both are amazing...one a beautifully flawed character, the other a consummate artist of the craft..I just can't imagine the show without him....
..you're a good man Charlie..Pace ;)
ToKyO 05-20-2007, 11:29 PM I am not a fan of Charlie flashbacks, I never have been. But I really liked this one. I loved how the flashbacks were all different too, because if I had to sit through an entire Driveshaft FB I wouldn't have liked it.
4/5 Well done.
LostInJack 05-21-2007, 08:50 AM Loved it , this was the best Charlie ep , here's hoping he doesn't die.
nessjscott 05-21-2007, 05:50 PM Great episode.
What a hero Charlie turns out to be by accepting his fate.
When he said I love you to Aaron :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:
Dr_Do_Right 4 8 15 16 23 42 05-22-2007, 06:10 PM AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME EPISODE
ZERO - HERO = Charles Heronymus Pace
snakeboyjim 05-26-2007, 07:17 PM Never has an episode transformed my opinion of a character as much as this one did. Before this episode, i couldn't care less for Charlie, but by the end i was welling up, it was so moving.
TheJoshuaTree 06-07-2007, 02:33 PM In a way I'm glad I got to see both this and Throught The Looking Glass back to back because even though it killed the suspense, at least I didn't get my hopes up in vain.
I'll miss Charlie. He died a true hero.
Beautiful episode.
~Siobhan~ 06-20-2007, 11:03 AM Loved this episode. Such a story of courage and heroism. Seeing Charlie's story come together in this episode in this way was great. Fantastic performance by Dom too.
CharliesAngel-xO 07-08-2007, 09:35 PM I love this episode so much. Best Charlie flashbacks I think. It Did make me cry loads though :( Well done Dom for such a rocking performance ;)
HappyMentos2You 08-07-2007, 12:21 AM this was a great episode.
charlie was so heroic in willingly sacrificing himself to swim down. dom played such a good role, really providing such emotion, that "cute couple" love to he and claire. you really see how his character truly loves her and aaron.
sblilly476 11-13-2007, 04:59 PM that was definitely one of my favourite episodes beside the moth! i loved all the flashbacks...Dom acted really good in this episode! and i love the scene where Charlie hugged Hurley, that was soooo sweet and it made me cry :(
RipperJack 01-08-2008, 06:35 PM I actually thought this was sad. Hurley and Claire both cared about Charlie very much and this episode was the last time they see him. Plus now Aaron has no father figure.
