Hockeyking 05-23-2007, 11:48 PM Wow where do I even begin. This was such an original storyline and ending that I don't know if it has fully sinked in yet. Season 4 will probably be the most anticapated since Who shot J.R. over 20 years ago. So many new directions the show can go in its mind boggling. For once Ben wasn't lying and maybe did have a higher purpose. Smallville and Heroes finales were laughable compared to this. I cant wait to see how Jack will get back to the island, and right his wrong.
Diesels Blitz 05-24-2007, 12:21 AM Lots of twists and turns, deaths, amazing plot, just excellent altogether! This one kept me at the edge of my seat. I'm saddened by the deaths of the Others, most notably Tom and Jason. It was sad to see Charlie go, but he took it like a man and helped them get rescued (hopefully). This is one of those episodes that will be fun to rewatch time and time again.
Guinevere 05-24-2007, 12:57 AM Fantastic from start to finish. I was horrified when I thought that Sayid, Jin & Bernard were killed. And I cheered when I realized they were alright. Kudos to the writers and the cast. So many questions!!!! Can't wait until February!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad I'm back on the threaded board!
MadWatch 05-24-2007, 01:08 AM Wow. Wow. Lost was losing me all through Season 3. BUT, after watching the prelude (Lost: Answers) I now see the show in a better light and, coupled with the 2 hour finale, my interest has been rekindled. Definitely looking forward to next season!!
brermike 05-24-2007, 01:18 AM I loved this episode. I rated it a 10. I won't repeat everything here, but I loved the action, the emotion, and the twists. There were even lots of nice little relevations to fill in the blanks like why Ben had Karl locked up, etc. I was sad to see Charlie go but glad he chose to fulfill his destiny himself (free-will) and let Desmond off the hook for having to constantly save him. Loved the flashforward concept and can't wait to see where the show takes us next!
lockesmithe 05-24-2007, 01:19 AM "Through the Looking Glass" was a great ending to a season that started shaky, but recovered to give us some of the best Lost episodes ever. The acting, directing, and writing were stellar. The score is also worth mentioning when complimenting this episode.
It would be impossible to list all the things I liked about this episode. Here are just a few of the scenes I liked: 1)"Walt" returning, or the return of the island hallucinations. That kind of warmed Locke's heart. He looked positively giddy. 2)Danielle meeting Alex. I was wondering how they were going to write this scene, and I am glad they wrote it with little dialogue. Nothing they could have written could have matched the simple caress of Alex by her admiring mother, Danielle. 3) Rose telling Jack she'd punch him in his face if he said "Live together, die alone" again. Priceless. 4) Hurley to the rescue! 5) Danielle elbowing Ben in the face when he was telling Locke to shoot Jack. She was so nonchalant. Funny stuff. 6) Charlie going out a hero. 7) Sawyer killing Tom in cold blood--love his "That's for taking the kid off the boat" line. Cold. 8) The ending, revealing that Jack's flashback was a flash-forward.
If I had to nitpick about the episode, I must say I wondered why Charlie didn't open the communication room hatch. Sure, the station would have started flooding, but he and Desmond were going to have to swim out anyway--it would have taken a while for the station to flood. Was Charlie choosing to drown because he believed that was his fate? Does this somehow tie into Jack's statement to Kate at the end, something to the effect that they weren't supposed to leave the island? Dunno.
So, we are left with not only question marks about the story for next season, but also how the story will be told. Will we continue to see flashbacks with some flash-forwards mixed in? Will we see all flash-forwards? Dunno.
I am getting the idea that Ben is telling the truth about the dangers that await them. He probably is doing what is best for the island, and Locke seemed to have similar instructions. What the ramifications are for these other, others trying to find the island is unknown. But, in the end, the Losties might wish that Ben or Locke stopped the communication to the ship.
What I liked best about the episode was the ending. Lost is all about twists and turns and mystery. A conventional story about people marooned on an island would end with the predictable rescue of those marooned, probably saving them at the last possible minute. You will hear people who are conditioned to such insipid Hollywood plot lines and endings collectively moaning. But these writers are clever. Rather than going through the motions, they've told us that Jack and Kate got off the island. That some Losties were going to get off the island was never in doubt, was it? But HOW did Jack and Kate get off the island, WHO else did, and WHY does Jack feel it is so important to go back? Those are the mysteries introduced in this episode. And it's mystery that keeps me watching Lost. Kudos to the writers.
Before I end, I would like to thank everyone involved in this season of Lost. And, at the same time, I'd like to send a volley of curses to those who are making me wait eight months until the next episode of Lost. Job well done.
beema 05-24-2007, 01:19 AM I loved this episode so much
one of the best episodes ever
so much happened for once! All action, no BS stalling.
Best moments:
Jack stands his ground with Ben, and then beats him senseless. Bravo Jack! It's about time somebody on the island didn't give into Ben's trickery!
Mikhail wastes the two Looking Glass chicks. I think I mostley loved this because it made me laugh how much everyone was going apesh** over theorizing who they were like they were the most important characters evar. NOPE! WHAM BAM YOU'RE DEAD in one episode!
lol
Hurley to the rescue. Awesome, and hilarious! I felt so bad for Hurley after Sawyer told him to go away, but then he goes and saves the day. Now Sawyer can eat his words.
Sayid. Necksnap. nuff said
Jack stands his ground, again! With Locke this time.
wilekiyote 05-24-2007, 01:30 AM A++ TPTB...good job. Kept me glued on the couch. Can't wait to see what you have planned for next year...dang, that's going to be a long time.
lostmio 05-24-2007, 01:42 AM wow, wow, wow, I love this show.
Charlie, you went out in the grandest style imaginable.
Hurley, my multiple hero.
Sayid, Jin, omg.
Bernard, you kept it real.
Jack, being you is the hardest thing in the world and Foxy manages to make it look so easy.
Jack and Kate, what a great moment.
Tom, I loved you yet **cheered** when Sawyer gave you what you had coming to you...
Naomi, I hope you were the real thing, even if your boss was the one who mailed the snake..
Danielle and Alex, ~sigh~ how perfect was that?
I *heart* Lost.
flyer61055 05-24-2007, 01:50 AM Wow! The list of everything I loved about this episode is too long and I need to watch it again to make sure I leave nothing out so I'll just say...........Wow.
beema 05-24-2007, 01:59 AM I also loved Charlie's ballsy attitude towards everyone since he knew he was going to die. Lots of cheeky remarks in those scenes that made me chuckle.
DrUrbino 05-24-2007, 02:16 AM Absolutely terrific episode. I loved every moment! :)
maeby 05-24-2007, 02:44 AM My mind was blown. I need to rewatch that ASAP... wow. Hard to tell where to start.
Great use of all the characters. I'm curious about Locke's fate, where he went off to, whether he ever left the island. I actually didn't mind Jack's flashbacks as much as I thought I would. Jack & Juliet's kiss was incredibly sweet. Sayid? Best castaway ever. I was afraid he'd be a goner, so I was pleasantly surprised. Sawyer, you made me cheer for Tom's death, which I never thought I'd do.
Loved the underwater hatch. Mikhail's dead eye was a great makeup job, I hope that guy isn't really dead - he's so badass! I want to see him again next season! Charlie's death was sad, but it was Desmond and Penny who really broke my heart.
I can't even start thinking about the ending though. I guess I've got nine months to try and work that out...
Claudia815 05-24-2007, 03:22 AM I need the long hiatus because I need to put this season behind me. I hated the first episodes. Hated this contrived season of "romance" (the fratboy version) and seriously considered dropping out...
But this episode just blew my mind, spoiled as I was.
The acting was so terrific that I just can't express what I felt when Jack's voice trembled and quivered when he was reacting to Sayid and co.'s death. I just... OMG. SO good. Somebody give Matthew Fox that Emmy now.
Ditto for Dom. Charlie's death was the only one that mattered after Boone. The only one that truly moved me.
Overall, I'm a bit apprehensive about the similarities w/Alias (that show died when they did the time jump) but I'll have nine months to freak out about that. I think this dystopic future can be changed (though I don't want it erased) and I cannot wait to see where Jack is going to go from now.
:jack: :jin: :sayid: :charlie: :hurley:
Tonight I just want to enjoy the feeling of being enthralled by LOST after sooo long. I missed this feeling.
engulfthemanatee 05-24-2007, 03:28 AM It was amazing. Even though I was spoiled, the ending was fantastic. One of the best, most creative episodes of Lost yet. THUMBS FRIGGING UP. :)
QueenLizzie13 05-24-2007, 03:32 AM Yes. Please give Matthew Fox the Emmy for Best Male Actor. And Sawyer for best supporting Male actor for the job that he did in the Brig.
HANDS DOWN BEST EPISODE EVER. To quote some people I know.
tuesdaymorning 05-24-2007, 03:46 AM AHHHH this episode was one of the best! Absolutely hard to watch (in a good way) because it was so sad, and it really got to me, but kept me excited throughout the entire episode. Such a huge cliffhanger though for next season. It's been a while since I've been THIS excited about the show. It's a good feeling. :)
CountChocula 05-24-2007, 03:48 AM Loved the episode!
But we couldn't understand Ben going by himself... Why not bring your guys with guns?
sk8rpro 05-24-2007, 03:49 AM Wow! I'm left speechless...of course, I can write it down
Many of the Others get sacked
Ben is beat up to a bloody pulp
Danielle and Rousseau were introduced to each other, and by Ben.
Bernard, Jin, and Sayid were not really killed after all
I get to hate Patchy all over again by him not staying dead (unless he also blew himself along with Charlie)
The flashback was actually a flashforward (What the Hell was Christian doing alive?)
What can I say? It was an awesome season finale!
lockesmithe 05-24-2007, 04:05 AM Just watched it for the second time, and what struck me was the fantastic work of the director, Jack Bender. I missed how well filmed the episode was the first go round.
Charlie's death scene was particularly well-filmed. Dom was great in it, of course, but the shots between Desmond and Charlie were heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time. Music was great. It was a tremendously sad scene. And the first time, I missed the fact that Charlie crossed himself before dying. Then we cut to a scene of Aaron crying. Great stuff.
adr55555 05-24-2007, 04:06 AM I just finished watching it for the second time. I kid you not. The first viewing I forgot to breathe from the moment Kate's car pulled up until the word LOST appeared on the screen. February 2008 cannot get here fast enough.
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! Anyone who stopped watching should come back to this show.
cdngurl26 05-24-2007, 04:12 AM first off ...this is why LOST is the best show on tv,just awesome....hope they put this eppy in for the emmy...secondly hope everyone has a great summer...happy thanksgiving...merry christmas and probably a happy birthday...c u in feb.
drb999 05-24-2007, 05:24 AM Loved it.. What I didn't love about it was.....9 months till the next new episode. ARGH!
CountChocula 05-24-2007, 05:39 AM I posted in the "didn't love it thread" a lot during season 3.
But this finale was unbelievably awesome. My hands were sweaty the whole time and my heart was racing, every single minute. Anyone else have those same symptoms?
True, parts of the "flashback" were dull at the time -- though we got a major payoff at the end when we find out that took place in the future, not the past.
Lost just hit a grand slam tonight. For anyone to post in the "didn't love it" thread, you will never ever ever like this show.
leppardess 05-24-2007, 05:48 AM Absolutely the BEST episode ever!! There are way too many things to list that I loved (plus, I'd have to watch it over and over just to get them straight in my head first ;) ) so I'll just say.... good job!! I'll be waiting on pins and needles until February
allergygal 05-24-2007, 06:09 AM Yes, loved everything about this episode except Charlie's death... that was really weak.
dubs49 05-24-2007, 06:19 AM It's after 2am on the West Coast and I've watched the finale twice. I can't even sleep. Great to see the executive producers writing this episode in such a brilliant way. Bravo Carlton and Damon, you've out done yourselves.
Is season four really coming next year, not this fall?
thecoerce 05-24-2007, 06:47 AM Wow! I'm left speechless...of course, I can write it down
Danielle and Rousseau were introduced to each other, and by Ben.
I was beside myself when this happened.
-thecoerce
AnalogKid 05-24-2007, 06:51 AM Terrific episode. My brain still hurts from the reveal at the end that it was all a "flashforward." I didn't see that coming at all. Hopefully it's just a 'potential' future because they simply can't do this. I'm hoping they have something clever up their sleeves that will allow the majority of the story to still take place on the island, and that we didn't just see the actual future.
Anyway..
The Charlie suicide..I mean death, was hard to watch. I'll miss 'em.
I was a bit sad that Tom got offed like that, but really, he wasn't a particularly good guy when it comes right down to it.
etc.
And yes, dubs49, it's next year. Jacob help us all...
Perkz 05-24-2007, 07:26 AM Absolutly loved it!!!!
I just dont understand how anyone can complain
LostIrish 05-24-2007, 07:38 AM I just can't imagine anything previously on television matching what we saw tonight. I really can't.
palomino_grl78 05-24-2007, 07:50 AM Definitely gives us something to think about for the long nine months until the new season arrives. Some people say they are dissappointed to learn that there was in fact a rescue, I, on the other hand, am more interested in HOW they get rescued now. I don't think that the mystery has been taken out of the show. I always knew there would be a rescue, I just thought we would have to learn about it at the end like all the other shows. LOST definitely set itself apart with that long awaited game changer.
lambchops972 05-24-2007, 08:06 AM Even though I spoiled myself on a lot of it it still shocked me. I didn't know about Danielle and Alex's reunion. I got really excited when that happened. And I was still worried about Benard. Loved Hurley's rescue. Everybody just pushes him aside and I think he finally just blew. I can usually find fault on something but I loved every minute of it. Now my mind will be twisting til next year. Lord help me. :)
And a couple of Vincent sightings Yeah!
fruitloop 05-24-2007, 08:52 AM Loved it! Lots of action....sorta surprised Sawyer shot Mr. Friendly...killing gets easier I guess...watch out next season...
Joshypoo 05-24-2007, 08:54 AM I loved it! That was the best 2 hours of television I've ever watched! I work with this guy who kept complaining about how they're not moving the story along fast enough for him, not answering questions, how will they end it, bla bla bla. I have a feeling he's changed his tune this morning!
Runecaster 05-24-2007, 09:31 AM Completely loved it!
The most nail-biting moment for me was when Hurley blasted through the trees with the VW Van and saved the day, and the ensuing moments.
I was never more fiercely happy than when Sawyer cooly took down Tom. That look on his face was perfection and I was /so/ behind him.
Only then to be matched by Sayyid's quick and efficient neck-snap. Sayyid is entirely the coolest badass.
Matthew Fox's performance... what can I say. He's been holding out on us. That was /excellent/ and for the entire episode I wasn't bored or annoyed watching him.
But truly, all in all, I was just happy Locke wasn't dead. I don't know what I would have done. :frown:
What a lot of people are glossing over, and I'm just pondering it -- is what's up with Aaron? He knew Charlie died... didn't he?
I remember reading a long drawn-out theory in Entertainment Weekly months ago... and it goes into detail regarding this idea about Aaron having far more importance than we think. I dunno, I could be grasping at straws but... Locke did make the cradle for him, and connect with him for a few episodes... Just something to think about :)
kotw32 05-24-2007, 09:33 AM I Loved it !! I cried when Alex met her mom, I laughed when her mom ask if she wanted to help tie up Ben and i screamed when Hurley came to the rescue.
Superb episode. The twists were done fantastically, so much so I was genuinly annoyed at the announcement of Sayid's death. I tried to pursuede myself it might have been a lie, but when Jack told Kate about it, I resigned myself to the truth. And then Hurley to the rescue! I've never been so happy to see him. After last week's scene where Hurley was told he'd be useless (to protect him), and the same this, I figured he'd do something to prove otherwise, but had completly forgotten about it when the time came (anybody else expect Smokey when Sawyer started hearing noises?). Sayid's neck snapping... AWESOME! Still my favourite character with ease.
Loved Sawyer shooting Tom. I expected a quip about him now being done with Tom, but fortunatly he was given a much colder line. I'm looking forward very much to season 4 Sawyer.
Jack's character was great here too, finally a return to the torn hero. First episode I've really enjoyed Jack since season 2. However I wasn't a fan of the "flash-forwards". I think the problem is, the situation was that either people got off the island, or people didn't get off the island. And now we know that Kate and Jack do (and I'm guessing the funeral was for somebody else was got away too, as they both knew the person, and there was a small article in the paper), there's no peril for them. Take the peril away from Kate and all you have is love triangles... I feel we've been told something we could've guessed at, but with that they've taken away something too.
I was very dissapointed by Mikhail's "death". It seemed too obvious to me he would come back to haunt them. But Charlie's death was done superbly, so as much as he'll be missed, I'm happy with that. I get the feeling Mikhail is something special though, it's the second time we've seen him cheat death, and Ben's "I thought you were dead" comment the other week seems a little more like an in-joke now. Perhaps he's done this before.
I won't go into anything else, as it was all pretty much top notch stuff. Aside from the ending, I was very happy. Although the whole "snake in the mailbox" thing... I thought we'd know what it was. I'm still deliberating. Was it the flash-forward? Was it Locke's "return"? Was it Penny's talk of Naomi? Was it Ben seemingly telling the truth about what's to come? Was it the rescue being on it's way? Was it Walt? They're all big things, but none of these are huge to me. Overall a 10/10, but I'm not as excited to see next season as I was at the end of season 1 and 2. This is the first finale where I feel they could end the show and I wouldn't be devastated.
Also, why do they insist on putting MDK's name in the opening credits??? I was so annoyed by that. I know it's a thing they have in old TV land, but sometimes (and Lost shoudl know this more than anybody) holding back information is a good thing.
prospero 05-24-2007, 09:40 AM Wow...We were cheering out loud for things that happened. Too cool. Love this show.
hellokitschy 05-24-2007, 09:49 AM this was, without a doubt, the BEST epi of the show ever!!!
bravo and kudos to all...
I really loved this episode. It was one of them that showed me what LOST is really meant to be. Twisty, turney, and oh so mysterious. I just hope that they continue to make more great eps like this one!
Lost_In_NJ 05-24-2007, 10:02 AM Brilliant! Absolutely BRILLIANT!
lostgurl 05-24-2007, 10:54 AM This episode may be just as good as the pilot, something I never expected to see happen.
Dominic, Matthew, and Michael Emerson all deserve an award for their performances last night. Also great stuff from HIC and Jorge.
I'm so sad that Charlie died, it's really heartbreaking to lose an original lostie. :crying:
The flashforward was totally genius, and opens so many new doors for us to talk about. Walt!!!! I missed him so much. I almost had a heart attack when it seemed Bernard, Jin, and Sayid were shot.
I can't say enough good stuff about this episode, and I really hope the Charlie fans stick around, you never know what might happen. There's still so much story to tell.
elfdream 05-24-2007, 11:10 AM Greater love hath no man than this....Even thought I was spoiled and new what was going to happen I thought if he has to go this is the way to do it. We will miss you Charlie. I hope we don't see any kind of Charlie funeral in the little cemetery. I don't think I would be able to take that.
So are the next three season going to be flashbacks to the ISLAND? Hmm....
I guess Sayid and Desmond are going to be my favorite characters now.
Remus Lupin 05-24-2007, 11:16 AM Thanks for staying, elf!
Also, WOW. Greatest episode of Lost EVER (expect for the stupid flashforwards). The on-island stuff was so brilliant. I loved what they did with Ben, merging him with the Losties like that. Sure, he's in a very bad position, but he deserves it, doesn't he? And FINALLY Danielle and Alex meet!
Sawyer, Hurley and Juliet's rescue was one of the best things ever. And Sayid was TOTALLY badass snapping Jason's neck with his legs. Great, GREAT episode!
I think I'm destined to hate the cliffhangers. I hated last season's cliffhanger. I hated this season's cliffhanger. The Season One cliffhanger, however, was perfect.
realityaxe 05-24-2007, 11:40 AM WOW! Amazing!
QueenLizzie13 05-24-2007, 12:36 PM I think the "snake in the mailbox" was not the flashfoward. that was too obvious because you could guess it from the flashbacks. I think it was more along the lines that they "had to go back to the island." Just my take on it. I could be wrong of course.
bo_is_lost 05-24-2007, 01:24 PM I am a man of one show. Not 24, not American Idol, nothing else, not anymore. And once Lost is done, I'm done with TV, because I will always be disappointed. No one else can pull off anything like what I saw last night. Kudos! "Through the Looking Glass" was the best episode of television ever broadcast.
merew 05-24-2007, 04:00 PM Ok, I've spent a lot of time this season in the "didn't love it" post, beginning with last seasons lackluster finale. So when they do somehing right I should give them credit. That was a kick butt finale.
The_Others_2005 05-24-2007, 05:40 PM Great episode, liked everything about it.
Also I'm really excited for the flash forward aspect of the show.
abbybr 05-24-2007, 05:42 PM One of my favorite episodes !!
The Hurley scenes were great!! I love that guy!
Team Taskmaster 05-24-2007, 07:00 PM Getting onto the boards was a bear today!
I think it's wonderful that so many people are staying loyal and coming back, and the quality of this finale (and the recent episodes) has to be the reason. We've been with Lost from the start, and last night just solidified it for us. Even the bumpy times are worth the wait because the payoff is SO GOOD!
I was thrilled from the moment I saw the name of the actor who plays Walt. Charlie was excellent, Mikhail is one tough cookie, but Hurley...Oh my goodness, that moment made me scream, yell, cheer, clap, gasp! I kept thinking about it all night and all day. Amazing. The guy knows how to make an entrance.
This finale had so much. There was something for everyone, but not too much of anything. My husband felt the last scene revealed too much. I just thought it was kind of lame, but we both enjoyed the future flashes and are excited to watch it over again tonight. It will hold us over until 2008.
Thanks, LOST folks, for putting together a fantastic finish to a great season.
lament this 05-24-2007, 07:28 PM Dear Lawd! I LOVED the finale. It was amazing. dang.
Daphne 05-24-2007, 07:57 PM I've been on the "Didn't Love it" quite a while this season, and if it weren't for the finale, the overall flavor would be bitter. However, the last episode made it up for all the flaws and things that bothered me before. Excellent is all I can say.
MyLost 05-24-2007, 08:02 PM The first hour was a definite 10. I actually found myself jumping up screaming. The second hour was a 9.
The most amazing scene was Walt.
I did not like the flash forward. Maybe I will grow to like it.
jheri 05-24-2007, 08:48 PM I can't wait for Janurary thats how much I liked it. I want more.
entil2001 05-24-2007, 08:49 PM This is the kind of episode that benefits from a relatively clean slate, ignoring the spoilers and letting the writers tell the story on their own timetable. Most of the criticism I've read has come from those who read spoilers well ahead of time, effectively undercutting the strength of the episode with unnecessary expectation. Taken objectively, this episode is, in fact, the "game changer" that was promised. And I, for one, though it was one of the best episodes in a very long time. It may not have been perfect, but it far outshines most of what I've seen this season for any series.
Here's my review for Lost 3.22/3.23: "Through the Looking Glass":
http://www.entil2001.com/series/lost/season3/lost3-23.html
Overall, this episode was a powerful season finale, changing the face of “Lost” in a major way while preserving the underlying elements that make the series unique. Fans will be discussing and debating this episode right up until the fourth season premiere, which feels all too far away for comfort. This is the perfect ending to a season that brought “Lost” back to its former glory.
Claudia815 05-24-2007, 08:53 PM This is the kind of episode that benefits from a relatively clean slate, ignoring the spoilers and letting the writers tell the story on their own timetable. Most of the criticism I've read has come from those who read spoilers well ahead of time, effectively undercutting the strength of the episode with unnecessary expectation.
I have to say that's true and wise advice for those with enough willpower. I'm not one of those, especially not when it comes to my favorite character, but I'm actually glad I read all the detailed spoilers because for once, the writers delivered on the hype and the episode was better than it read on paper. Nobody could have spoiled me about the quality of Matthew Fox, Dominic Monaghan and Michael Emerson's acting or Jack Bender's direction, though it's hardly news to me by now.
I liked it even better upon second and third viewing and that has been a very rare ocurrence this season.
Jack Bender is probably the unsung hero of this episode, but just like the other Jack, he's always brilliant in the key moments of each season. The music was beautiful and effective and Jack was rocking out to Nirvana so my life is now complete.
Juliet was terrific and makes me regret I'm straight. She :dog:slaps Sawyer often and good and you know he's loving every minute of it.
There are no words to express what I felt about Charlie's death. When "Win One For The Reaper" started playing, I got flashbacks to Jack and Kate's joy over saving his life in ATBCHDI and I lost it.
Sayid going all Jack Bauer and killing a man with his LEGS was just insanely entertaining for some reason and his scene with Jack in the beginning was incredible.
Yes, there were things that bugged me (Mikhail's death/non-death for instance), but I was so overwhelmed with emotion (thanks to some superb acting... Matthew Fox scares me; he's that good. And Dom was a class act) and the episode rocked so hard overall that I didn't even bother.
I need more time to wrap my head around the flashforward because yes, I'm a little apprehensive, given the Alias precedent. Overall, I think the show needed to shift into another gear and hopefully they won't screw it up. I haven't been this entertained by TV in a long time though and the episode, even though bleak and presenting A dystopian future (though not THE future, imo) gave me hope. I will come back next year, even though I was very close to giving up.
Maxum 05-24-2007, 09:14 PM Loved the episode. It is easier to list what was so great:
The courage of Jin, Sayid, and Bernard remaining behind to face the others
Charlie standing up to his captives and being so snarky
Juliet's unexpected kiss to Jack
Sawyer's darker side and his bullet to Tom
Hurley to the rescue; how do you not love him?
Jack's reaction to the "deaths" of Jin, Sayid and Bernard; Matthew Fox's performance (both present and future) was just fantastic;
Charlie's death was not something I loved, but Dom's performance was great
The return of Locke. He drives me nuts, but I love the character (and the actor).
Alex and Rousseau's reunion;
Jack standing up to Ben and to John
John not being able to shoot Jack,
Locke getting rid of Naomi (thank you).
and last, but not least -
What a stunning final five minute game changer.
I liked that we first met Charlie writing on his hand and so he went.
EkoJunior 05-25-2007, 12:07 AM What an episode! I never thought an episode would come along to top the Pilot or Walkabout but here we are at the end of one spectacular season! Through the Looking Glass was the BEST episode ever!
I loved every moment. I was moved and astonished. Watching the episode for a second time today with a new set of eyes - filled with information given at the end of the episode - what I witnessed was a very emotionally powerful two hours of television. Bravo, Mr. Fox! Congrats, Darlton! Mr. Bender, you out did yourself! This was a true accomplishment from the entire cast and crew.
The payoffs were great, like having Sawyer finally get his revenge on Tom like he said he would in The Hunting Party when he said, "This ain't over, Zeke."
Charlie's sacrifice worked. I totally bought that he believed he had to drown for the flashes to come true. How that impacts Naomie's falsities onviously have yet to be determined.
Not many answers last night? Nope. Didn't need 'em. I didn't start watching the show to get answers. I watched the show from the beginning for two reasons:" mystery and characters. Last night, I got both.
The ending was beyond words. This show suddenly became epic. And, will definately receive a lot of Emmy nods - though Sopranos will likely take home the actual awards.
cargogal 05-25-2007, 12:31 AM Very happy with the ending of this season. Much more so than the ending of last season. They have managed to get me thinking again!
skjpm 05-25-2007, 12:41 AM I agree. I'm trying to think of better TV episodes--the Buffy Hush episode? Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (X-files)? The Twin Peaks finale? I just can't think of anything quite as powerful and jaw-dropping.
vangelicmonk 05-25-2007, 01:36 AM I thought this show came together perfectly. The flash forwards is interesting and will put an interesting twist along with Desmonds "flashes." Charlie's death was sad, but it came together and stayed true to the show. The show always trips me out, but that is what I love about it.
rethink 05-25-2007, 01:46 AM I really like the episode....S3 got off to a slow start, but this was the finish line to a great race. I was bouncing in and out of my room as I was watching (I cringed as they were getting ready to kill Jin, Sayid, and Brenard ) but it all worked out in the end and now i can't WAIT for s4....though it won't be till next year :shakehead:
waywardwanderer 05-25-2007, 02:38 AM I liked that we first met Charlie writing on his hand and so he went.
I couldn't have said that better myself, Herk. For a minute, I thought for sure he was writing FATE on his hand.
I spent the two hours after watching that episode pacing back and forth in my livingroom rattling on about it to my boyfriend.
The entire episode is brilliant, but my favorite parts were:
-Ben telling Alex why he was trying to brainwash Karl. Sweet but creepy all at the same time.
-Sawyer very obviously pushing Kate away to protect her. And Jack trying to make her see that. And then admitting that he loves her. *Has a drama overdose*
-Alex's abrupt introduction to her mother.
-HURLEY! There is nothing more gratifying than watching him succeed in being completely wonderful over and over.
-Rose telling Jack she would punch him in the face.
-The last five minutes. I don't know what was best about this... actually just watching it. Or realizing about an hour later that according to Jack, his dad was alive.
- Realizing that Ben was telling the truth about Naomi... at least partially.
I really do believe that this was an excellent show, top to bottom. I've never been so amped up about a single episode. Not even the pilot, and that is saying a hell of a lot. If at least one award doesn't come from this ep; whether it be for actor, crew or show; I will completely lose faith in those who give such things.
caforrest2047 05-25-2007, 02:50 AM What an episode! I never thought an episode would come along to top the Pilot or Walkabout but here we are at the end of one spectacular season! Through the Looking Glass was the BEST episode ever!

I agree completely, well said.
sandiego6656 05-25-2007, 03:53 AM LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT. couldn't sleep at all last night and didn't get much work accomplished today because there are so many things to think about. here's hoping we don't have to wait too long for the dvd release, so i can start watching the entire show from the beginning again.
For me, this finale beat the prior two season finales, and those were pretty damn good too. If Lost doesn't get a truck load of emmy nominations this season, I'll personally write the academy to complain.
And God bless everyone working on this show. Truly. I can't gush about it enough. It's driven me into TV obsession in a way that I could never have anticipated. Hell, I'm even posting on a fan forum, something I thought was ridiculous and a sign of total loserdom before this show came along.
Keep these great episodes coming guys. And shake off the critics. Most of us rarely complain about Lost. I for one sit, awestruck, through each episode, and am completely satisfied to go whereever this story takes us.
restlessherbalist 05-25-2007, 04:57 AM Outstanding. OUTSTANDING! La creme de la creme of Lost. Certainly the most suspenseful ep to date. My heart was pounding. This double ep paid off immensely for those who've been watching from the beginning. The writers really are to be commended for the ingenious way they've woven all the varous plot threads into the season's climax. No character was left out. I knew from the first moment that Jack was in the future. But the writers teased us by being ambiguous with the information. Nicely done. My heart sank when I heard the three shots. I knew Hurley would rescue his pals with the Dharma bus but it was one of the great moments in recent TV history nonetheless. Walt has a hyperactive thyroid. RIP Tom. Sawyer got in a great line and the beer afterward was classic. Nice to see Ben beaten senseless. Mikhail is Rasputin. Charlie didn't have to die. What a show, what a show! Epic, man, Epic!
God, how long is it 'til Feb?!
linkman 05-25-2007, 06:29 AM I loved loved loved the bit where Hurley saves the day in the Dharma van, such an amazing way to bring something from a seemingly meaningless episode into the most important of the series. Charlie's death was pretty heart-wrenching, but I don't get why he didn't flee the room and close the hatch keeping all the water in that room, guess he's been converted to fate. Agonizing watching him trying to tell Des that Naomi = bad. I also loved him singing when they caught him trying to talk to Des, and his lines, "I came on an invisible submarine, can't you see it?"... the way Bonnie hit him exactly the same way every time was funny, too.
+Respect Rose, "if you say live together die alone I'm gonna' punch your face in!"
"I'm a dentist, I'm not Rambo."
Sayid's neck snapping move was like something outta 24, awesome.
Locke's still got the knife skillz, yeah.
Oh yeah, Des harpooning Mikhail was COOL. WHY won't he just die!?
Loved it.
The Loyal Oposition 05-25-2007, 08:11 AM I knew everything and I was still blown away. Wow.
Everything flowed. The acting was magnificent and Juilet didn't die.
Yeah. This was good.
Chrysander 05-25-2007, 10:09 AM What I liked: + It seems 99% certain that Juliet is done with the Others, and is trying to do the right thing, so I like her more, and I strangely enjoyed the kiss with Jack + Sayid snaps no-name's neck, hell yeah + Sawyer shoots Tom! Exactly what should happen to all the Others when they screw with the losties + Patch gets harpooned + Patch considers betraying Ben for a moment - I hope he is still alive, and that he eventually does betray Ben + Jack beats Ben's face in + First words from Danielle to Alex 'I'll help you tie him up'. Made me laugh! Also I was worried about what kind of lies Ben had told Alex about Danielle, and I thought Alex was going to freak out, so it's nice that she didn't. But I would have liked to have seen more interaction between Alex and Danielle. + Explosions and people flying everywhere + Dude gets run over + Knife in the BACK of Naomi + John almost shoots Jack. I wanted him to shoot Jack. + John almost shoots himself!
Trevski 05-25-2007, 11:04 AM Cyclops! LMAO....I am very sad the Charlie has gone. But it was a terrific end although I too can't quite suss out why Charlie didn't just get on some diving gear and flipper up to the surface.
The ending was really very dark and bleak...it was intruiging but really gloomy. Can't be all fun and camper vans though, can it?!.
Tjen750 05-25-2007, 01:11 PM Outstanding finale..! Absolutely loved it all the way. Every second !
Except for:
Three gorgeous young women were murdered. I have no clue what that is all about... I was educated with the firm believe that you can never have enough gorgeous young women around... But that was way back in the sixties and seventies, long before postmodernism and the new "beeldenstorm" messed things up
QueenLizzie13 05-25-2007, 01:49 PM there was the perfect mix of funny, sad, and action moments. seriously.
the exchange between Sawyer and Juliet was hilarious. Hurley on the walkie when he thought he was contacting the others. and I don't think Hurley was out of character at all like some people are saying.he was helping his friends. Hurley is loyal to his friends and he doesn't like the others.
then there was the beautifully done sad moments....charlie in the water, the music, his expressions. everything was beautifully done in that scene. What makes me angry is that some people can't appreciate the beauty of Lost, the acting, the writing, the score, ect. they just want answers all the time.
well you're watching the wrong show. But anyhow. the acting was SUPERB. I think Dom and Matthew deserve Emmy's. they were hauntingly good. I rewatched the episode already, I haven't done that since the pilot. rewatch an episode so soon, I mean.
but dang. that was one GOOD finale. And I loved how USA Today gave only Lost 4 stars.
BillToons 05-25-2007, 03:04 PM Shew.... :)
I'm posting on this thread just to counter the size of the "Didn't Love It" thread. I don't understand what they're talking about over there. I thought the ending was a fabulous idea (even if it didn't work in Alias: signs are this is going to go in a significantly different direction than that, and is not really the same idea at all). If it means the show is going to get a format change (present-time action, island-time flashbacks, for example) that's fine by me.
Episode wasn't perfect and there are a few holes (most notably the one that Charlie could have swum through) but many puzzles can be explained. (For example, Mikhail went outside the station because he obviously wanted to flood it; Charlie closed the door in a snap decision to protect Desmond, who is bigger than Charlie and was running towards him at top speed--Charlie was on a hero kick, after all.)
I happily watched it over again on the Web. In general, well done.
ANTIDEAD 05-25-2007, 07:58 PM For me this was the best finale out of the three, and one of the best episodes of the show. The plot twist blew me away, and they pretty much gave every character an important part.
dvd32355 05-26-2007, 12:15 AM Damon & Carlton
Can you write every episode?
You have gone beyond magnificent with this episode alone!
I had to wake up my other half after the show(No they don't watch!) To say that this episode was the BEST season ending of any show I have ever seen. You made up for the first six episodes , and can't wait for next season. Thank You!
TheSacrificeTheIslandDemanded 05-26-2007, 01:44 AM It was amazing. All of the plot threads were beautifully handled, the writing was excellent, the acting was sublime (special kudos to Foxy here -- he was astonishing), and the plot was furthered in an extremely significant way. I don't understand how you could ask for more.
TSTID
Robin Girl Wonder 05-26-2007, 02:09 AM OMG!! I almost peed in my pants when Kate got out of the car!!
This was a most excellent episode! WOW!!
JackBauerLost 05-26-2007, 02:26 AM Amazing episode. Maybe the best so far.
Minivintage 05-26-2007, 04:12 AM I thought it was brilliant...although it didn't, really, answer very many questions.
Fascinating set up for next year, though...aren't you dying to know who's on that boat, what their agenda is, what happens to the Losties/Others, and what the heck has happened to Jack from that last scene on the beach to alcoholic junkie? I am.
The acting really made the episode, as nearly everyone has already mentioned,,,I've always been blown away by the depth the actors have given these the LOST characters in general, but especially in Through the Looking Glass.
Now WHAT am I supposed to watch on TV for the next 8 months?
theshape 05-26-2007, 11:01 AM Absolutely fantastic episode, although i did feel a bit cheated when we find out that Jin, Sayid and Bernard hadn't actually been killed, although i'm so glad they weren't!! The acting from Matthew Fox and Dominic Monaghan was superb.
LOCKE THE HATCH 05-26-2007, 11:34 AM the best season finale ever. gripping! as if i dont want the episode to end! lost rules!
velton 05-26-2007, 01:47 PM I really loved this finale.........the idea of the flash forwards.....awesome idea!!!! The part with Charlie made me cry.....and it was not a real big fan of Charlie......Best moment was when Hurley came crashing through the jungle in the hippie van....classic!!!!
Oggie 05-26-2007, 02:28 PM I have to say this was the Empire Strikes Back, of the Lost universe. If Mathew Fox doesnt get some kinda award for the S3 finalle then there is no justice. I just hope that the death of Charlie does not solidify that the future we've seen is written in stone. Cause I dont want to see Jack end this way.
Vloss 05-26-2007, 08:44 PM This episode wasn't perfect, but it was enough to bring me back after I'd given up on the show early on last fall. Well done, I knew you still had it in you!
I echo the praise for Matthew Fox's outstanding performance. I've battled addiction myself and he was simply riveting both as a broken man in 2007 and a tense leader in 2004. Bravo.
Jynes 05-26-2007, 09:04 PM the best season finale ever. gripping! as if i dont want the episode to end! lost rules!
Same here, I actually watched the episode with all the advertisements to make it last as long as possible.
The_Others_2005 05-26-2007, 09:10 PM I've already seen the episode of a few times. What really strikes me is that they focused a lot on the characters this time during the finale instead of just trying to crank out answers.
DarkRainbow813 05-27-2007, 10:12 AM This episode is the reason why I got into Lost in first place because of Jack Bender. Jack Bender's work deserved more recognization and that's what a director should do, to keep things moving well and to keep people entertained.
When this episode opens, I was in such an awe and I knew exactly what to expect from the director but the more he did with this episode, the more I was smiling and cheering because of amazing camera work.
The music is what made the whole episode work so well. In most of Jack Bender's episodes on Lost or Alias...the music always sounds so emotional and deeply-moving especially fits with a moving picture so well. That's what made things so well in an episode. I kept saying "Wow...so wow." every time when commericals came on after the show takes a break.
In this emotional and powerful season finale, it had full of action, great timing of humors despite to a dark episode of the show, the directing was such a perfection! especially with camera work.
I actually loved every moment of this finale. After seeing this one, I wasn't sure if I actually liked this episode more than "Live Together, Die Alone" but I think I actually do because this finale was much faster paced and full of action that doesn't slow things down like in "Live Together, Die Alone." Even I felt the direction was much better in this one.
I almost felt like so heartbreaking while seeing the camera work because of how great it was. I will list down the scenes that I loved from the camera work that Jack Bender did in this finale.
- the camera was moving slowly surround Jack in the opening while he was in the car then follows him to the edge of the bridge. It captured so WELL!!!
- the camera swifts at Syaid when he was aiming the gun at one of the Others during the credits when it said "directed by Jack Bender", that fits perfectly because that's exactly when the action actually began and never stops from there.
- the camera was at the floor, moving up and rotates around on Charlie and Desmond when they were questioning the lady in the hatch underwater right after the commericals ended.
- the survivors walked toward the record tower and the camera pulls away from them to show the tower, it was shot beautifully. It always apparent that when Jack Bender is directing an episode...he always have a shot showing the location, like at the ending of Exodus part 1 when Jin, Michael, Walt and Saywer were leaving on the raft and again in "Live Together, Die Alone", Syaid, Jin and Sun were on the boat surfing around and we saw a shot of 4 toed feet statue and plus after electronic magnetic went off, when things were settled down, the camera was tracking through the people on the beach. Lots of good trademarks in this episode from Jack Bender which I loved.
Now with the performances...some of actors deserved to win an emmy for their excellent work on this episode. Now with the directing...Jack Bender MUST win an emmy for his directing because it is absolutely PERFECT!!! It will not going to be ironic if he gets nominated again especially getting nominated two times in row.
With Charlie's death, I was never really upset about any characters' death but I always thought this death was well done and shot beautifully.
I'm actually glad that Bender directed all season finales so far and they all were GREAT!! especially this one. After seeing his direction on this finale made me think why don't he ever do another major picture someday since he only has done one in his career which was way back in 1991 titled Child's Play 3. As well...I hope Bender stays with the show until it ends in 2010 because I wouldn't want Stephen Williams to take over his place if he leaves the show but I'm not going to argue about Williams's direction though.
So a 15/10 for this episode.
And...my mind is still shaking right now after I saw this episode and it has been shaking every single day since the day it aired because of how great the direction was.
TheLadyLovesLost 05-27-2007, 03:02 PM Have only just watched it and am still in shock. My mind is in turmoil. It was AMAZING!! The flash-forwards at the end was sooo unexpected.. and Christian is still alive?! Charlie forfilling his destiny was incredibly sad, I could hardly watch. Loved the chat he had with Penny, but it's a shame that Desmond didn't get to be communicate with her himself. Hmm, Noami, so what's her game?.....and the evil Cyclops Mikael...? I loved what some one said above about him being like Rasputin...
Loved to find that Sayid, Jin and Bernard were ok after all, I was totally grieving for them, Rose and Sun. And Hurley to the rescue! I cheered out loud! Was sad to see the demise of Tom, he was my favourite Other. RIP Tom.
We saw "Walt" appear in a place he shouldn't be and save Lockes life. Danielle and Alex meet, and it was Ben who introduced them to each other! Great stuff!
And soo much more!! Lots of answers, twists and turns and as ever, in true Lost tradition, loads more questions upon questions!!! Plenty of food for thought over the long break. Fantastic writing, amazing production and wonderful delivery from the actors. Oh how I love Lost!
outta_control 05-27-2007, 03:53 PM Great episode! That episode was really suspenseful. Am a bit saddened by the fact that if/when Jack gets off the island he will regret it.
snakeboyjim 05-27-2007, 05:04 PM It was a really great episode and a perfect finale. I've watched it twice now and a third time just looking at the best bits.
Mimmi 05-27-2007, 11:27 PM I loved this eppie. Loved so many things about it: Danielle elbowing Ben, Sayid turning commando, Hurley going crazy with the van and then getting on the horn to Ben to taunt him, Dark Bearded Jack's descent into drug-induced rage and grief, Alex and Danielle finally meeting each other... so many good scenes. But I have to really, really give props to Dominic Monaghan and the writers for the Charlie scenes.
I really loved Charlie's exit from the show, and that's speaking as a fan of the character and the actor. Especially the actor. Dominic Monaghan rocked Greatest Hits and Through the Looking Glass. His scene when he realizes (in GH) that Desmond is telling him that he needs to die for Claire and Aaron to be rescued was brilliantly done. All facial expression by Dom, no words, just as the truth of it hits him. And then his death scene, which made me cry and made me want him to swim out the window or go with Desmond... anything so he would live. But of course, Charlie didn't want the vision to change and so he decided to let himself drown. :( That smile, that hand on the glass... fantastic. I'll be watching Dom's career just like I have been since LOTR. He's a very good actor and I hope he gets a lot of good work now that he's off Lost. Great actor. Great character.
I also loved the scene with the two women interrogating him when they realize that Charlie is already prepared to die. That was powerful. You could see them reeling when they understood that he had come there convinced he'd succeed and die. How do you intimidate someone who is that sure of his fate? Sure, Charlie was afraid of being beaten, but he couldn't be cowed. It was a very powerful scene. Thanks Dominic, thanks writers, and thanks Charlie. *hugs*
PHATPHIL 05-28-2007, 01:29 AM THIS WAS THE BEST LOST EPISODE EVER!!!!!!
I WAS ON THE SEAT OF MY EDGE THE WHOLE TIME!!!!
I LOVE LOST! BEST FINALE TO THE BEST SEASON SO FAR!!!
Okay guys...do you think that it was Boone in the coffin? It HAS to be. Here's why: the coffin was EXACTLY his height and he's from LA, where Jack and the cemetary was. Coincidence? NO WAY! GET LOST!
jbram_2002 05-28-2007, 12:16 PM I have a confession to make. I thought this was the absolute best episode ever. I never thought I would say that about a Jack episode. Before this episode, my favorite was the Moth back in Season One, so don't think I'm a fair weather friend here ;)
I personally think that there were very few things they could have done better. The acting was stupendous; the plot twists were engaging, riveting, and unexpected. Through the last few episodes of S3, I was attempting to go spoiler-free, and I can tell you that it definitely pays off big time!
Sadly, Charlie is gone, but the way he died was the most heroic and beautiful death ever shown on this series. I personally subscribe to the best two hours of Television theory.
Thanks to everyone on the team... you guys did an AMAZING job!
Dr_Do_Right 4 8 15 16 23 42 05-28-2007, 01:22 PM Amazing episode
woulda been better if Charlie didn't die.
Katrina 05-28-2007, 05:51 PM I loved it !!!...... although I did walk around my house with a confuesed look plastered on ma face after I saw it!!
OMG and the Jate moments Holy shiz I squeeled like a plonker wen Jack said those 3 words!!!!
One of the best, if not the best, LOST eppi ever....and the most mindbogglin' one . :)
adam8023 05-28-2007, 08:16 PM Superb episode!
Just like Enter 77!

Boone died in season 1 bro...
_Ingrid_ 05-29-2007, 07:21 PM It was not only an improvement on the whole of season three put together, but also a massive improvement on last year's finale. The acting was just stunning, I have found a whole new level of respect for Dominic Monaghan and I'll miss him terribly. Matthew Fox displayed incredible range and carried the show in style, the story moved along at a healthy pace, there were highlights for each character and the music was practically a part of the ensemble, an invisible actor.
kgsullivan 05-29-2007, 08:57 PM I'm really only posting in here because I can't believe how many posts the hated it thread has. The finale was excellent. The ending was heartbreaking (Jack flying hoping the plane would crash), Charlie's death was perfect, the Others getting wiped out...realizing Ben may have been right about Naomis people. Only problem was not enough Locke.

I agree, I don't know how any lost fan could seriously hate this episode.
Claudia815 05-30-2007, 12:44 AM I agree, I don't know how any lost fan could seriously hate this episode.
It can be done, trust me. I had a lot of resentment towards the miniseason and sometimes I let it tinge my viewing and my reactions to storylines and episodes.
The greatest gift this finale gave me is that it made me excited about the show again, it made me care enough to be a Lost nerd again. I'd missed that.
wsprag 05-30-2007, 01:48 PM I liked it but it didn't seem as exciting or revealing as the previous two season finales.
jane_eire 05-30-2007, 02:19 PM quiet whispers
talliann 06-01-2007, 06:46 PM Absolutely amazing episode. Loved it to no end.
peer71 06-03-2007, 09:16 AM I have never been more intrigued and wishing for more than after this seasons finale...
And that's what good televison is about, Loved It!!!
(But i'm wondering how i will survive the Lost-less period...)
Hildy 06-03-2007, 02:20 PM Wow - what an absolutely mindblowingly fantastic finale! In my view, it has to rate as THE best episode out of the entire three seasons. A real emotional rollercoaster, and two of the best hours of televison I’ve probably ever had the pleasure to watch.
Great performances all round but most especially from Matthew Fox who was absolutely outstanding and definately deserves an Emmy. The contrast between Jack’s strong, determined, heroic “island” persona and his “flashforward” broken man was heartbreakingly poignant. And fantastic direction from Jack Bender (as always!).
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone at Lost for giving us such a brilliant finale, and for giving us so much to ponder on during the long wait for season 4.
caforrest2047 06-03-2007, 03:53 PM with Ben vanquished and Alex and Carl joining the Losties, might we finally get some answers? This episode was amazing, I say that about most of them.
Vv JDW vV 06-03-2007, 04:01 PM That was the best finnale so far.however it didnt really anser that many questions and instead raised further confusion.but thats the beauty of lost.did anyone else find it weird when jack was asking for his dad in the flash forward?
caforrest2047 06-03-2007, 04:04 PM That was the best finnale so far.however it didnt really anser that many questions and instead raised further confusion.but thats the beauty of lost.did anyone else find it weird when jack was asking for his dad in the flash forward?
yes, perhaps he's crazy, perhaps.......... no he's crazy, actually there is probably a good reason for it
1dimpleonly 06-03-2007, 11:20 PM I loved this episode!!!
xylophonefairy 06-04-2007, 02:56 PM There was that time, about 10 minutes long when just for once, everything was going right for the Losties. After Hurley showed up in the van to save the day, all the Others got killed, Jack beat the brains out of Ben (finally), and they made contact with a rescue boat. That scene when Jack was talking to the guy on the sattelite phone was one of the happiest yet.
Then Mikhail showed up and burst my bubble.
The Island must really freakin' love him.
Deana3452 06-06-2007, 09:33 PM I thought the episode was amazing!!! Matthew Fox's performance was fantastic. When he was yelling, "We have to go back!!", he looked so distraught. I, of course, was screaming at the TV, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when the "Lost" showed up. I have to admit, just this year, I got caught up. I had never watched, but heard all the hoopla, so started watching it on DVD and finally got caught up to current episodes. I have never seen a show with such brilliant imaginations. Keep it up!!! :)
100%
P.S. I reallllllly want to know who/what Jacob is!!!!
The final was awesome!
Feels like the best Lost episode ever!
Charming_Nicole001 06-07-2007, 08:45 AM I loved the final :)
- Charlie's death so sad :frown: but so beautifull!
- Jacket kiss was amazing.
- Skate angst was amazing. You can really see that Kate loves Sawyer so much :) And he wants to protect her so he must hurt her. Men, I love this Ship!
- Daniel & Alex so sweet and nice.
Owww I can't wait until lost comes back!
mysteria 06-07-2007, 12:35 PM The episode was great! The first season finale is still my favourite but this one is a very close second.
Charlie's death was heartbreaking - the first time Lost made me cry. :frown:
I really liked the reunion between Alex and Danielle - hopefully we'll get more of them together in season 4!
My favourite line was "If you say live together die alone to me Jack, I'm gonna punch you in your face!". I love Rose!
TheJoshuaTree 06-07-2007, 02:10 PM I was abroad when the episode first aired and when I came home this was the first thing awaiting for me on my DVR.
It was breathtaking. Matthew Fox, Dominic Monaghan, Michael Emerson and Jack Bender are in a league of their own. There are no words to describe how good the acting and the direction were. We saw two versions of Jack, equally well played, Charlie's touching sacrifice, the group back together acting cohesively... It was marvelous.
I just took a break to register here and gush and now I'm going back to rewatch it.
Bubblewrapper 06-07-2007, 02:24 PM Liked it a lot when I saw it the first time, loved it after watching it again...and again.
Claudias Ghost 06-07-2007, 06:58 PM I really loved this finale.Such a great blend of relationship angst and action.Great work from D and C and I loved the flash forward at the end.Well done!
Paulinha 06-07-2007, 07:00 PM Best final episode as highlight of the best season (so far).
Truetou 06-08-2007, 01:22 AM I´m still in shock!
And don´t know what to think about the Flashforward!
I don´t know how to wait till february to season 4! :frown:
I need season 4 now! And some answers too!
that was shocking and sad but i loved it...
it was my fav finale of lost so far...
Clerks 06-11-2007, 04:25 PM I can't wait for our first promo for season 4, I hope to GOD we get one at Comic-Con.
I absolutely loved this episode- one of the, if not the, best episode ever (Exodus is the competition for best episode).
The Ben / Jack "shooting" of Jin, Sayid and Bernard was amazing.
alvars greatest hits 06-11-2007, 06:53 PM The Ben / Jack "shooting" of Jin, Sayid and Bernard was amazing.
It made me squirm, so incredibly well acted. I only have one word for the whole episode: FANTASTIC.
kerrixx1 06-12-2007, 07:34 AM I was pretty depressed after the season 2 finale...as it did NOT "blow me away". With that being the case, I was a bit nervous going into the Looking Glass. Needless to say, I couldn't believe it when I looked at the clock at saw that it was only 8:30. I was sure and hour and a half had passed!!!
Amazing, simply put.
Damon and Carlton were really under the gun with this one. I was nervous for them, the press is so unforgiving....the fans are worse. The leakages make me sick. So to have it end up being such a success was a real victory for the show.
The only thing I would've liked to see happen differently is Charlie's death. I know this has been hashed out over and over already, but it really was lame and that can't be argued. It's as if we all knew it was coming, as Dom had been ready for it since last Feb. and everyone just dealt with it as an afterthought. I dunno.....I guess I shouldn't present a problem w/out bringing a solution to the table also, but I kept thinking, "How the f*ck did Mikhail take the harpoon to the chest and why didn't they bypass that tacky camera pan on the blow up doll that was put down in place of the body of the brown haired girl?" instead of focusin on how emotional I was about Charlie's approaching death.
Oh well....it was still the best episode ever.
Thanks guys!!!!
Kerri
Veronika87 06-13-2007, 08:45 AM Loved the finale! Hurley is my hero!!
Cassiopeia_87 06-15-2007, 02:04 PM Great, great episode! I liked this one so much better than the season 2 finale, in my hitparade it even comes close to the season 1 finale, which was one (were two, actually) of my favourite eps throughout all three seasons.
My favourite moments were the skate angst scenes, and, as insensitive as this may sound, the Charlie death scene. These scenes were incredibly well acted, incredibly well filmed, just heart-breaking (if I had watched the episode alone I definitely would have cried like a baby when Charlie drowned) and (as for the skate angst) heart-warming at the same time (finally it's more than obvious that Kate cares for Sawyer very much).
CopEatingDonut 06-19-2007, 09:15 AM The best season finale by far in my opinion! I was absolutely blown away! Sad to see Charlie go of course, but at least he died as a hero sacrificing himself to help his friends. R.I.P. brotha! Well, I can't wait until season 4 starts. It'll be a while but thankfully this finale gave us a lot to think about... ;-) What is Jack talking about in the flash forward when he says he's tired of lying? Were all the Losties saved? What about the funeral that Jack attends? And was it the DHARMA initiative's boat that Jack talked to while Ben was tied up to that tree at the radio tower? You can see the fear in Ben's eyes and what would his #1 fear be? It's a plain to see. The return of the DHARMA initiative. Time will tell...
Thanks to the creators and actors for making LOST such a mind blowing experience. :-)
xgirlnxd 06-22-2007, 05:02 PM Just wanted to pop in and say I loved the season finale..watched it for a second time. It definitely beats the 2nd season finale and is one of the best episodes of the series. I can't even imagine what is in store for next season..there are so many possibilities it's mind boggling.. especially the flashforward stuff. I'm curious to see how it's all going to play out and I'm definitely excited for next season, but the hiatus is sure going to kill me.
SawyersPrincess 07-17-2007, 06:25 AM This ep was spectacular! I couldn't pick my jaw up from off the floor for the last 15 minutes though...and i'm very confused about alot of things...i wish it would just start in sept!!
JDTGT 08-06-2007, 07:16 PM I have such mixed emotions about this episode that I'm not totally sure how I feel. But, I loved it more than I hated it...so I'll post here.
How overwhelming was it to see Jack and Kate at the airport in that flash forward? I feel so bad, because now I know that no matter what happens on the island...that is Jack's future. From the beginning I thought he and Kate were meant for each other, but then when Kate and Sawyer started at it I kind of enjoyed their relationship. But now, I'm not so sure. That's what is so brilliant about this episode, though. It is for once a love triangle that isn't cliche. You actually care. I actually care.
It sucks that Charlie died, but it had to happen. And I thought he couldn't have gone in a better way. I also think it was really cute that he made that list of the five best moments of his life and told Desmond to give it to Claire. On top of that, I really like Desmond. I didn't like him when Jack and him met at that stadium in the past, but I liked him after he saved Charlie about a gazillion times. He is now one of my favorites.
And then there's Ben. For once, it seems that Ben is telling the truth. And I love it...why? Because now we have to wait until Season 4 to find out EXACTLY who we can and can't trust.
Oh, and Locke makes a much better bad guy than he does a good guy.
Anyway, I liked the last episode. It just makes the wait for Season 4 that much harder.

JDTGT - I liked your post, however, I wanted to comment on what I have highlighted and underlined. I'm glad that you actually care because you should! That's what is so great about Jack and Kate (& the rest). You WANT to care about them. But don't be so absolutely sure that "no matter what happens on the island...that is Jack's future.
I have a feeling that you will be pleasantly surprised when that turns out NOT to be Jack's future, and that Jack and Kate actually do end up together. (They may not end up together in the real world, however there's always the chance they will end up together on the island, and say to hell with the rest of the world - after realizing that the island is where they belong.) It's where they should have stayed!! They will make it back there. There is absolutely NO WAY that TPTB have showed us the end of Lost already!
Don't be sad because you think that is how Jack ends up, because it's not. There is no way the hero and canon couple of this amazing show do not end up together - and happy. So keep the faith!! (Only 6 months to go.....UGH!!)
Take Care.
Doc
MinorxThreat 09-20-2007, 05:54 AM I was sad to see Charlie go. But amazing episode.
itzack 10-30-2007, 03:23 PM Just wanted to add... that even now, months later, I've still been thinking a lot about that finally.
I really loved it - it blew my head away, had to watch the episodes over and over again.
Season 1 & 2 finallies were great - but that was awesome. Thanks LOST
ninaeatspie 11-09-2007, 11:21 AM I absolutely loved Ben in this episode.
First of all, I consider it brave of him to walk up to the losties all alone. He really seems to believe in himself and in the power of his words, because he lacked any power of weapons or followers.
Also....it seems like he is speaking the truth for the first time ("They will kill every single person on this Island"), and I'm enjoying this.
sblilly476 11-14-2007, 07:41 AM i really loved this episode! roses line to jack was just priceless^^
i didnt like that charlie died but i liked the way Dom acted it! it was just an amazing scene and it really made me sad :(
outta_control 11-16-2007, 08:59 PM Great episode! Can't wait to see what happened in season 4! Who is on Naomi's boat. Season 4 is still a long ways away.

COL_Richard 12-26-2007, 05:59 AM THis was the best season ender of the 3 so far.
1. Jack beats Ben so well, sayid woulda said dayyummm.
2. Sawyers execution of Tom ( and i like M.C. Gainey), street justice.
3. Hurley roaring in, running over that squad leader.. hilarious seeing a VW Van.
4. Ben falling from grace with his people, which opens plot theories that Locke may take over that position.
really too many to name, but some key points with the passing of Charlie.
1. Flashbacks to his best moments. kinda presents its own memorium.
2. The leaving of the ring with Aaron (i hope its recoverred and Claire keeps it)
3. His final selfless act of sealing the hatch to contain the flooding, and warning Desmond that the boat isnt Penny, and thereby possibly hostile.
4. genuine bravery, and cunning, as he moves towards his own pre-destined end, in contrast to Bernard buckling and giving them all up.
5. Aaron seeming to sense the death immediately after Charlie gives in to his fate.
I can already picture the scene where Desmond reunites with the group, and Claire sees him alone... thats gonna be heart wrenching.
thank you Dominick for the great acting and memories over the past 3 seasons.
after watching S4 finale i still think this episode was the best season finale ever!
Meggerhun 09-12-2008, 02:48 PM Loveloveloved! I"m finally through Season 3!!
When the ep ended I was on the edge of my seat screaming NOOOO!!!
But now I am even more excited to finally start season 4!!
I was so proud of Charlie and of Hurley, I KNEW he wouldn't give up that easily!
Poor Tom, though... I really think he could have been a great character to keep around. He was almost decent. And Locke just leaving like that?? Hmm.
Well, I'm off to go start season 4...
