Did anyone recognize any of the Others during the scenes of their camp? I mean, other than Tom, Cindy, Ben and Richard... Also, I didn't see any children, did anyone else happen to see kids there?

Yes, the two kids from the plane were there. They were standing by Cindy during the night scene when Locke was supposed to kill Cooper. I kept thinking, OMG, they would have the kids WATCH something like that? What if Locke HAD done it??!!

Well, if they ever do a class photo, they'll hopefully all be in that scene. But here, we only saw a dozen or two, but IIRC there were tents for more than that, so we didn't see everyone who was there. Didn't see Alex, but I wouldn't expect to see Karl, since he said if they ever caught him again they'd kill him. I wouldn't assume the Others necessarily always stay in one big group either.

We still haven't seen the twins from the boat in the season one finale.

I'm probably wrong on this, but for a split second, they showed a woman that looked like Locke's "mom" Jan from the commune. It was right before Cindy. But I think Locke would recognize her and be like WTF??

I agree, lostgurl. There's got to be way more Others that just the 50 (tops) we've seen over the past couple of years. In order to sustain all the mechanisms of society, there has got to be more people than what we are seeing. Where are they?

It would be an interesting exercise for someone to count how many we've actually seen -- such as, number of Others at Juliet's house during the book club, the people looking in the sky as the plane crashed, the number of torch holders during last season, the people at the dock in last year's finale, the number of people associated with the Hydra station scenes, the people who came to "look" at Jack in the cage, etc.

Yeah I definitely saw the two children from the tail. They were under Cindy's care it appeared to me.

I have noticed in the past that with a few exceptions, most of The Others seem to be contemporaries of Ben in age. Many in the group seem to be mid-40's to mid-50's.

I also wonder if LL Bean is making clothes drops. Why is it that they seem (Ben included) to have nice khaki pants and button down shirts a la Freeport, Maine?

Various Others whose names we do not know are called "Background Cast", for lack of a better term. They are discussed in detail in this Lostpedia page (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Background_cast#Others_background). Briefly, there are 25 of these people who have been identified (the 24 listed, plus the Quarry Guard, discussed further down in that page). This means that they have been seen clearly enough in episodes to be able to distinguish them as individuals. There may be additional Others whom we have not been able to identify clearly enough from various scenes.

Additionally, there are numerous people we know about who may have been living on the Island, but who are probably either dead or not on the Island any more. These people would include the DeGroots, former residents of the Swan, Marvin Candle, and other Dharma personnel such as Skeletor, the driver of Hurley's VW van.

All together, and if you add the survivors from Flight 815 who have now been incorporated into the Others' community, we end up with between 45 - 50 people that we know about for certain who are presently alive and living on the Island. There may very well be more than this, but we can't say for certain one way or the other at this time.

I haven't had a chance to see any screencaps of this last episode yet, and I hope that once we see them that we'll have more firm data to add to our list of documenting Others on the Island.

Not many is the short answer: those Tailies really took a beating! Of the original 22 people who survived the immediate crash of Flight 815 who were in the Tail Section, only one of them (Bernard) is alive and living with the rest of the Survivors. All the rest have either died or were captured by the Others.

Well, see, that's one of the reasons I started this thread, because we just had an episode where we got to see lots of the Others in different shots. This would give us a chance to compare notes to see whether they actually DID show us some of the lesser known Tailies who were captured, other than the two kids and Cindy. I haven't myself had a chance to sit down and dig through the many previous episodes' screencaps that show the Tailies who have been captured, but I think that's what needs to be done. I'll probably get around to it soon, however someone else might do it before me and post the information to Lostpedia (or here at the Lage), which would be cool, too. ;) [hint hint]
