Ben says "he's not who we thought he was" about Locke.

Is it possible that the Others are trying to discover who Jacob is, like searching for a Messiah or something? And when they come across people who have a strong connection to the Island, they try to find out if that person is Jacob?

This would make Ben like John the Prophet. Maybe he was even thought to be Jacob at one point.

This is a great point. Maybe the others don't know who Jacob is? Maybe they thought Walt was Jacob? Now Locke? Intresting thought.

I thought there was definitely something messianic happening as well.

I was thinking the same thing tonight.

I'd have to go back and review the "Jacob dialogue" from the past.

We have been led to believe that Jacob is a physical person who judges, gets angry, and is a great man.

However, what if Jacob is like .... God. If an alien, who had no concept of God, came to Earth and heard Christians talking about Jesus it would take a lot of explaining by us Earthlings as to why some of us speak about Him as a "real person".

Could the same be happening with Jacob?

Perhaps the LOST writers are going to do the "prophecy" plotline ... the Others are waiting for Jacob to come to them and he will have quality A, B, and C. Meanwhile, they have a concept of him, like God or Jesus, and speak of him in the first-person.

So when Ben introduces Locke to Jacob in an upcoming episode .... what do you think happens?

My brain is on overdrive right now. LOL.

The Others do appear to be on a pilgrimage of sorts, but I'm not sure if locating Jacob is the end game. Spoilers:

The preview for next week implies that Ben knows where Jacob is, and leads Locke there. My question is: Is Jacob a real person or another con that Ben has used to reel in the masses?

Didn't Desmond say a similar thing to Locke when they first met in the hatch: "Are you Him?". Desmond is therefore also searching for Him aka Jacob.
