View Full Version : What is the island?
MPmom 05-03-2007, 02:03 AM There were several times on this ep where the mention of this being an island was reacted to incredulously. Then Naomi mentioned following the coordinates to a spot in the open sea, then finding the island. So is the island floating and moving around? Maybe the coordinates were originally of the islands location, but then it moved. Naomi was lead to where it had been before. And is it even an island?
Any thoughts on this?
linerk 05-03-2007, 02:25 AM My thoughts at the very beginning - I mean the beginning of Lost not this ep were bermuda triangle sort of thing...It's definitely weird and I can't think about it anymore tonight but I want to see what others say.
lostchild 05-03-2007, 02:57 AM I've said this before and I'll say it again (although, in the end....I'll probably be wrong.)
I don't think the isalnd is real. And by that I mean....I don't think it's a real, naturally occurring island. I think it's man made.
Just a theory, I'm probably wrong...who knows!?
Of course, I don't know how you would begin to build a man made island in the middle of the ocean and have it remain stationary.
Of course, (I don't remember where I read this) but-
I recall someone saying something to the effect of "This isn't the first time the stars aren't where they're supposed to be" I think it was in reference to when Karl mentions the constellations he and Alex have named ( to Kate and Sawyer)
To elaborate on my "man made island" theory.....What if the island is under water?
I don't know how that would work. Please, someone debunk my wild idea.....I'm so frustrated and confsued, my head hurts :undecide:
I have been wondering what the island was since day one.
AGH!

Debunk: if Island was under water it would not be a island, since an island is defined as a body of land surrounded by water, and not under water. Oh, and everyone would have drowned early in season 1 if the Island were under water. Not to mention all the camp fires would be next to impossible. It tends not to rain under water either.
lostchild 05-03-2007, 03:22 AM My apologies imfromthepast...I should have been more specific.
In saying that perhaps the island is under water, I mean.....perhaps the "island" is a man made "city" of sorts....like an Atlantis.
Like the "snowglobe" theory, only underwater.....
Please, still feel free to debunk away! I'm not sure I necessarily believe my theory, I just wanted to get it out there.
Thanks for the feedback though ;)
ozieozwall 05-03-2007, 03:40 AM Think time Riff. Naomi was sent to a coordinate on a map, at that point the helicopter entered a time riff and the roughness of the riff crashed the helicopter. Remember the rough ride Juliet was told about? Naomi bailed out and she was fortuante to land on the island. Also Syaid said the Satelite phone was not like anything he had seen, meaning the future,
I think the Island is located in another time and moving slower than the rest of the earth.
lostchild 05-03-2007, 03:48 AM I don't know if I buy the "time" theories......but of course, I don't quite understand them either. Perhaps if I did, I could speculate better
I don't know.....disregarding my whole "atlantis" theory....I still think the island isn't real. I don't know, just a gut feeling.
IDK, I'm probably wrong.....yikes! My head hurts, dude.

I don't think this can be true if we also accept the stories of Rousseau and Desmond.
If the real world was moving much faster and they think they have been on the island
for years, then they would have been on the island for decades. We also know the dates
given in the Dharma videos, so I don't think it can be.

I had the same idea. All signs point to the fact that the island is below sea level. How can this be? Well, given the special qualities of the 'island' it could be surrounded by an air contained "space" that is exposed to the sky above. This could be covered by a small layer of ocean water so that from above it would look like flat seas. The stars appear strange because as light defracts throught the atmosphere and water above so that the the points of light are now different. The only way to reach the island is underwater by submarine. Others reach there by crashing on the sea level surface above an penetrating the surface of the "space" either due to a storm surge (Desmond) or by velocity (plane/helicopter crashing). Naomi said she crashed into the WATER. So the island is hidden because is under sea level and surrounded by the sea. Desmond couldn't sail home because when he reached the boundary of the "space" he simply went in a large circle. Juliette said to Ben once about the sailboat that it would just sail in circles. So, that is my theory.
Dizonman.
linerk 05-03-2007, 03:02 PM Wow, some interesting ideas...are we still going with the idea that everything is scientifically explainable...if so I don't understand how it's possible but it's very cool.
I still like the Bermuda Triangle idea.
redmaria 05-17-2007, 04:12 PM Ive loved this idea since the very beginning, wouldnt be neat if they were a couple of miles off some major city like LA,The Village-style?Unfortunately,in one of the latest Podcasts a great question was answered. My all time fav question a fan ever asked!
-Are they really on an island?
-yes they are!
end of story;)
linerk 05-17-2007, 07:19 PM That doesn't really answer much...they're on an island where...in what time...under water....?? See, this doesn't really explain anything.

Hey!if they were under water it wouldnt be an island, would it brother?
Definition of island:
1.a tract of land completely surrounded by water, and not large enough to be called a continent. 2.something resembling an island, esp. in being isolated or having little or no direct communication with others.(hmmm, although the def number two puts me in thoughts.....)
For me their answer that its all been taking place on a 'land surrounded by water' is good enough!:hypocrit:

I'm going to go with this one... I mean that thing that some people have in their kitchen is called an island so technically....
