View Full Version : Coopers line--I'll be here a week
Lost_in_DeLandFla 05-03-2007, 02:24 AM What in the heck does that mean? I'll have to go back and watch, but didn't Ben smack Cooper and shut him up after that reveal? How does this line jive with the story of being in an automobile accident and waking up in wht he thinks is hell. After this line I was thinking that all of you who thought that Cooper was Jacob were right--and I was annoyed.
Why would he say that?
Baileysdad 05-03-2007, 02:27 AM I took it as sarcasm...whenever a stand-up on stage blows a spot..he says.."thank you..I will be here all week..."
I mean...this is a con man with no soul anyway and I think he was just mocking John..although affer watching this show for three years..it could mean something huge..or nothing at all.

ITA with this! I was half expecting him to follow with, ".....try the veal!"
johnnywishbone 05-03-2007, 02:31 AM Yeah, i agree with BD.
He was just making a joke, basically saying he's got no where else to be.
Kevin Tighe did a great job tonight......so smug.

exactly......or something like ".....please tip your waitresses"
Lost_in_DeLandFla 05-03-2007, 02:39 AM His voice was continuously dripping with sarcasm in this episode, so that would make sense. He was a slime bucket.
I am sure it was nothing, it just seems odd to me that Cooper spews this line then Ben seems to lose it and cold-cocks Cooper. Ben is such a cold and in control personality, to see him do that appeared out of character for him.
Nice new avi Baileysdad, but I do miss the old one with the picture of the baby!
Baileysdad 05-03-2007, 02:49 AM Try the veal??? :24:
We needed a rim shot on that one...
Flotsam 05-03-2007, 05:12 AM There was something weird about Cooper's behavior in this episode. Or was that my imagination? It was like he wanted James to kill him; egging him on. Was that out of character for Cooper, or am I totally off base?

Was that out of character for Cooper, or am I totally off base?Cooper was a man who liked being in control, knowing more than everyone else did when he pulled his cons. When the tables were turned on him and he woke up in a mysterious place as a captive, his rage practically turned him into a rabid animal (he bit Locke's hand for cryin' out loud).
By the time he met Sawyer, the only thing he had left to attack with was his tongue. It makes sense that he would spew virtiol until his last seconds.
Also, if he truly believed he was in hell, he probably thought he couldn't "die" again.
Flotsam 05-03-2007, 08:50 AM A-ha! Thanks, RodimusBen. You cleared my head. I actually thought of that last part just after I typed the previous question.
cinamin 05-03-2007, 09:00 AM I have a question that's been bugging me. Cooper seemed to inherit a southern accent last night and I don't remember him having it in previous episodes. Was he covering up his accent for his cons? Or was he acting out a part for Sawyers sake?
Guess my suspicious mind is wondering if Cooper knew about Sawyer's past and played it up to taunt him into killing him.

I thought a similar thing. He was too "goofy" for lack of a better term. Maybe it was really the smoke monster?
Gistenhose 05-03-2007, 09:23 AM Yes, something was off. I kept waiting for him to say, "Why do you speak to me as if I were your father"....
Nevermore 05-03-2007, 09:53 AM Is it just me, or was Cooper acting totally out of character this episode?
I mean, not just out of "Cooper" character, but really out of "Lost" character?
Every single character in the history of this show has always spoken in riddles, revealed only the tiniest glimpses of information that would keep fans sitting on the edge of their seats for weeks speculating about the meaning of a single line... and all of a sudden this Cooper guy just starts blabbering "Oh, he's my son, I threw him out of a window because he kept screwing up my cons! Sure, I called myself Sawyer once, why'd you ask?"

RodimusBen, I agree with 100% on this. He was working on the maniacal assumption he was in Hell. IMHO, a big reason the writers gave that assumtion to him was to justify his behavior. We needed to be reminded of all the things we should hate about this guy so that his death felt like "he got what was coming" as Locke said, not cold-blooded murder. Plus they had Sawyer really distraught, then throw up. Makes sense.
Plus a bonus is that having a character say "we're in hell" then get killed off maybe was meant to kill off that theory as well! I really hope I wasn't supposed to take the new guy seriously.

I believe Cooper thought he was already dead and that being killed didn't matter. He gave up the will to live and was just curious as to what was going on.

Well, the writers have been throwing in too many explanations and revealed mysteries in the last 3 episodes, so you know... seems like they're trying to tidy things up too neatly.
