You are absolutely right about everything else.

Perhaps it's similar to the episode of Red Dwarf (quite a good show until the geeks discovered it) in which the protagonists happen upon some kind of immersive VR programme which brings all their deepest desires to life. Things soon go south, however, when the characters imagine themselves being tortured and humiliated (the point being that most of us are so racked by guilt and self-loathing that ultimately we wish ourselves ill.) I'm sure if any of that's inaccurate one of the aforementioned geeks will set me straight. ;)
