Ah, looks like we will learn about Ben this episode. I'm VERY excited for this!

We've been having storms here all day, so everyone keep your fingers crossed my power won't go out! I'll probably have a heart attack if it does.

So far we saw Ben's birth, not on the island, but outside Portland! I wonder what the significance of Portland is?

Yes. This one looks good so far. I don't think there is a Jacob, because of the shock on Richard's face when he found out that Ben was taking Locke to meet him. What were the hostiles? Oops the commercials are almost over.

Kate731 and other Canadians, please spoil us to death. Either that or I won't forgive you for Bryan Adams. :p

Locke confronts Ben about his leadership, and Ben says he answers to Jacob. Locke doesn’t believe this, and thinks that Jacob doesn’t exist, and that Ben is ‘the man behind the curtain’ (it’s a wizard of oz reference.) Mikhail runs back to the others camp, telling them about Naomi, but Locke insists in front of everyone that Ben is going to take him to see Jacob, and when Ben doesn’t want to, Locke beats the crap out of Mikhail! He is completely in control of Ben right now, and all the Others see it. Alex also gives Locke a gun.
We see Ben as a child, and his father is a janitor for Dharma (Roger Workman!) They go to school, and during a class, the hostiles attack them. Ben has a cute little girl friend at the school. Ben’s dad blames him for his mother’s death, since she died after giving birth in the jungle, aw poor Ben, hes very upset about that. Kid Ben is seeing him mother on the island. She tells him “its not time yet”.
The fence is mentioned in a Dharma orientation video as being to keep out the “exotic wildlife”. Hmm, Smokey?

Jack's an ***! Sayid plays the tape for everyone and Jack comes and says he knew about it already.

So.. Jacob is invisible, and yet real? Wow, that was hands down one of the scariest scenes I have ever seen on a television show. I NEED to watch again at 10 to see that again. I think we got a glimpse of Jacob, and boy is his voice creepy!

And what about Richard? Tha guy is exactly the same that we saw in the present day. He never gets older...

Wow a young Ben snuck into the jungle after shutting off the fence. He then meets up with Richard. He looks like the same guy from today, but with long hair. Ben asks if he is a hostile to which he doesn't answer. Ben asks to leave Dharma and go with him. Today's Ben leads Locke to a old cabin and says that is Jacob's cabin.

John gets shot by Ben!! Okay... hyperventilating here... its in the stomach, so I'm going to say he won't die... cause that would really not be good! Ben wanted to know what Jacob said to John (it was "help me".)

Also before that;

Looks like Ben was a janitor for Dharma too. Then, Ben kills his father in the Dharma van that Hurley found by gassing him. So this killing your father thing must be significant. And all the Dharma people were also gassed it seems. The hostiles, aka the Others killed all the Dharma folk! This was the purge. Their nice village was originally Dharma’s village. Ben shows John the mass grave of the Dharma initiative, which is where he shoots him.




This was a great episode, lots of shockers here, and now I will be biting my nails all week worrying about John. Wow.

Poor Locke.

Ah yes, I noticed that about Richard too. I assumed that Ben was older than him, but when we see him meeting Kid-Ben, he looks the same as he does now. Very strange.

Also, totally irrelevant point, but did anyone else think that kid-Ben looked like Harry Potter?

If you kill your father or would kill your father your on the list I guess. Following in Bens footsteps/ I guess Ben wants to find a way not to have children kill their mathers anymore, because he went through so much pain.

I guess Ben wants to find a way not to have children kill their mathers anymore, because he went through so much pain.

This is a really nice way to explain why Ben is so wrapped up in the fertility problems on the island. (Richard's comments to Locke last episode make me believe that its not as important to some of the other Others.) Ben "killed" his mother, and on the island, all children kill their mothers. Nice parallel between the stories there.

I'm in California and just reading along. What was Jacob's tantrum?

Before Ben and Locke went into Jacob's cabin, Ben tells Locke to turn off his flashlight, as Jacob does not like technology. Locke shining a flashlight on the "empty chair", thinking Ben was just yanking his chain about Jacob was what caused it.

That was a fantastic scene. Really intense and extremely creepy.

I thought that hippie couple was going to be the DeGroots - this episode is going to have be be the best ever for me to be happy. I'm very disappointed already.

I rewound the Jacob shot a few times. He's definitely there. Whoever he was he was a man - looked to be in his 40's with longish hair. The profile looked a little like Pickett actually but with long hair - although it probably wasn't him.
