Are they? Maybe they were defending themselves and that was a preemptive strike. Any ideas on why the hostiles and dharma did not get along? I have a feeling that other than Ben, the hostiles might not be so bad. Also, why did they wait so long to attack when we saw how easy it was to jump the fence?

They killed everyone (including I'm assuming the kids) and threw them in a mass grave. Sounds like something that an evil dictator would do.

Not that Dharma isn't evil as well. Why can't both Dharma and the Hostiles by evil bad guys?

I would not call them evil yet still. We will see the reason they did what they did. And by the way Alpert reacted to young Ben in the woods, I am leaning towards them being good. We know a little what the island can do. What if the hostiles knew what dharma was doing would result in millions of deaths or end research that found the cure for cancer. Then would you call them evil dictatorish?

I'm definately thinking it was a pre-emptive act of self-preservation before the Purge, which sounds like a term Dharma would use. But we don't know who started the antagonism between the original inhabitants and Dharma, but history shows it's usually the indigenous people that get mistreated.

It's the same thing that was done by some native populations in the Americas to some of the first European settlements there -- often after a period of non-hostility, sometimes not. It's not usually called mass-murder because it's done in the context of their societal norms, not ours. For whatever reason, the natives felt themselves to be at war. Ben essentially slaughtering his own people was a totally different matter, in my mind, than them going along with it. I agree that the others are only evil because Ben is evil. And they look ready to follow Locke instead in a heartbeat.
