View Full Version : Little Ben
Betsy 05-10-2007, 12:51 AM I thought the kid that played young Ben was perfect - he was the spitting image of ME, down to those pursed little lips.........Loved young Ben, so quiet and intellectual, taking everything in, not speaking unless he had to. Same as older Ben. Perfect.
lostgurl 05-10-2007, 01:06 AM I agree. Perfect choice for young Ben.

The actor was great. I keep thinking of whispervixen's avi: "Harry Potter grew up and turned evil"
I wonder though how such a gifted kid ended up being a janitor. He's obviously bright and educated so you'd think a bunch of scientists would put him to better use.
Great casting on the part of TPTB. I thought the young man did a fabulous job with his role - very believable. I hope someone makes him aware of the kudos he receives here at the Fuse.
LostApril 05-10-2007, 02:54 AM Add me as well. I thought he was perfect. Casting did a fantastic job on that one.
lockesmithe 05-10-2007, 02:56 AM It was great casting for a young Ben. I thought his mouth movements were very similar to Ben's. I wonder if that was acting on the part of the youngster or just he way he talked. Yes, I thought he did a great job in that role. The parts where he was disappointed/crushed were conveyed well--they had me feeling sorry for young Ben.
Lost_in_CA 05-10-2007, 02:56 AM I agree, a perfect young man to play a young Ben. He almost made me feel sorry for Ben - almost. ;)
abbybaby 05-10-2007, 02:58 AM What a great little actor! Especially when he saw his Mom at the fence and couldn't go with her. Broke my heart!
Wow, I was thinking all throughout the episode how wonderful that kid was. Kudos.
lonegunwoman 05-11-2007, 02:34 AM Yes, that young actor did a great job. I felt really sorry for him in several scenes. He got the emotion across very well. Anybody know his name or seen him in something else. He looked familiar.

Yah, Harry Potter!
JacobSpeaks2Me 05-13-2007, 05:04 PM I'm curious why you all thought young Ben was intellectual/smart. He struck me as being a little slow.
In fact, I've never gotten the impression that Ben was a very smart guy, maybe because the books that surround him are kind of schlocky.
I'd guess that Dharma made him a Work Man because that's what they thought he was suited for.
Kate731 05-13-2007, 05:37 PM The young actor definitely did a fantastic job, and I too was thinking of Harry Potter throughout the episode! (Not Daniel Radcliffe, but the Harry Potter in the book cover illustrations.)
He seemed very quiet, and yet kind of sweet. I felt very bad for him when he saw his mom.
Mona Murray 05-13-2007, 05:46 PM His name is Stewart Beaumon. He has had roles in Heroes, Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, and 7th Heaven.

Cool! Heroes is my second fave series after Lost and, dare I say it, eclipses it on occasions. Any idea offhand whom he played in the show? I agree that the boy actor's portrayal of Ben was a sensitive and nuanced one, helping make this one of the great Lost epsiodes of any season. We see how he became the redoubtable man that he is today - principally at the hands of his appalling father. There's something chilling about him pushing that rabbit past the pylons to to test the fence. I'm guessing he was already learning how to sacrifice others to further his own goals.
Billy Shears 05-13-2007, 08:08 PM 11 1/2 year old Sterling Beaumon.

Kate731 05-13-2007, 08:33 PM Sounds like he's doing very well, good for him.
Billy Shears, that picture of Sterling with Michael Emerson is really cute. Thanks for posting it!

Yes it's a cracker. That's a broad smile we haven't seen on ME's face in his role as Ben now is it?
ireneadler 05-13-2007, 10:27 PM Well, he did manage to get the sonar off, put the rabbit there to be sure, then went straight to an off-limits area. If he were a dumb boy, he might not have done it.
Also, right after The Purge, Richard asks him for instructions. It's highly probable that he had an active participation in the mass killing.
Twenty years later, he's still the leader. Can't exactly be a dumb person.
So why did he become a work man? That could be the subject for another FB. We do not know the true character of the Dharma people. They could have been deeply unethical and mean-spirited, thus his hatred for everybody, evidenced by the Purge.
Scribe 05-13-2007, 10:41 PM From Left Behind to Lost. Now thats ironic
