Obviously Jacob is a fool trapped by time and space. He also looked like Locke.

The power was either gunpowder put there from Russo which she intends to lite(she got it from the Black Rock) maybe in order to stop Jacob from manifesting into the smokemonster when she makes her move to free Alex

Or its volcanic ash--I know they didnt mention the volcano for nothing

To me, Jacob is the smoke Monster

BTW..I was right about Jack and Juliets secret say maybe Im right about this link below which I wrote yesterday. There were parallels in tonights episode--as the white rabbit was shown and ben did kill his Father and his mother was dressed like Alice. Read the thread..your gonna disagree ...but you will agree its a spooky coincidence that I mentioned the Rabbit and a father being killed.

I should also add that the sonic fence was shown more than once so its possible the powder is a form of fence for Jacob

Watching it again..it seems also clear that Ben was NOT talking to Jacob. He could not hear Jacob--perhaps Jacob turned on Ben(with the cancer) and Ben somehow captured him. Thats why he brought Locke--to communicate with Jacob

That would make the main reason Ben shot locke was becasue Locke, alone, can hear Jacob now.

I thought jacob sounded and looked a LOT like Jack's father.

jacob voice was done by Carlton Cuse, and I think his nose is too pointy to be christian.

another thing I noticed after a second and third (and fourth, etc) view of the Jacob's scene is that when everything started to go polstergaist, Ben checked the jars, apparently to see if they were ok. Why were they important for Ben? If they are what keep Jacob trapped. couldn't he just make them fly around the room like he did with other stuff?
