During the classroom scene with the volcano lesson, there was a loud rumbling and objects shaking. At first, it seemed like a volcano was about to blow, or an earthquake in progress. Then the teacher directed the kids to follow the usual hostile drill procedure. So if it was actually an attack of the hostiles, what power do they wield that makes the earth move?

Roger said a few minutes later that there was a huge explosion preceding the attack. I presume the explosion was what rattled the room, not an earthquake

So I wonder if the Hostiles have been dipping into the supply of dynamite at the Black Rock.

could the explosion really have been a volcano eruption? i was kinda getting the hint that there was a volcano on the island that may not have been as dormant as the natives thought.

I got the feeling that it was little Ben who cause the mini-quake.
It reminded me of the scene of Walt in his home in Australia, when his mother and stepfather were talking (and essentially ignoring him) and he tried to get their attention (unsuccesfully) and the bird slammed into the window/glass door. (A bird of the same species Walt was reading about).

Does anyone else think the quake might have been the Incident that the Swan orientation film refers to? Or maybe the natives just blew up part of the sonic fence...
