So we are led to believe that Jacob gave a list of 'good' people to Ben. For what
purpose would Jacob want them, if true? Do we still believe that Jacob did this
or did Ben lie about that to his people? I am guessing that Ben does a lot of crap
in Jacob's name and that is why Jacob wants to eliminate him.

Also, Ben mentioned that Jacob is the kind of man that summons you. That could
imply that he (Jacob) summoned the entire airplane, Rousseau's ship, Desmond,
and everything else nearby. I am wondering if Ben thought that Jacob summoned
Jack to help save him (Ben), but the reality is that Jacob summoned Locke to
help save him (Jacob). Or am I taking the word "summon" too literally? (It's certainly
more fun in the context of a pentagram of black powder and jars filled with the blood
of captured children.) :undecide:

Yes, this sheds a lot more light on the whole "You're on or not on Jacob's list." I think Ben is doing a lot of things in Jacob's name that are just Ben's doing. Jacob obviously has power, but I think the whole "good people on the list" is just Ben being judge and jury about who is worthy to stay on the island and become one of them and who isn't.
As to whether or not Jacob could really summon or draw people, planes, ships to the island . . . that's quite a thought. Something to ponder for a while.

also if Ben is the only one who can see/hear Jacob........who did the Others/Hostiles take orders from before Ben came to the Island?

And how did Ben become their leader? I am guessing it has something to do with
Jacob. I am thinking something "Sword in the Stone" style. The Others knew about
Jacob, but only Ben had some sort of ability to communicate with or control him
and that gave Ben special standing in the group. Now Locke has that as well.

Sword in the stone style would make a lot of sense- Joseph Campbell's faulty myth studies reflect the protagonist getting the talisman and going on a quest- George Lucas basically follows that closely- and if Lucas or Stephen King do something, it's a cinch that it will show up in Lost eventually.
