If Locke does assume the role of Jacob, as some are suggesting, then I believe Locke will adopt a Christ-like status on the island. He was once human, was killed, and now will rise from the dead. The fact that the Bible character's name "Jacob" was used lends more credence to this theory. Very interestingly, check out the link from the wikipedia entry for "Jacob" below Specifically, the section on "BETHEL" Some eerie similarities.

In the "BETHEL" passage, it says that Jacob's wife gave birth to a son named....."Benjamin" And that she died while giving birth to "Benjamin"

Also, look at the "Struggling With God" entry. Speaks of "a man wrestling with Jacob all night long but not being able to overcome Jacob" And that the man broke Jacob's hip. Does the man=Ben and Locke =Jacob? Ben can't overcome Locke so he shoots him?

Hmmmm...that sounds a lot like what transpired on last night's show!!!
