the mysteries of Lost being answered with MORE MYSTERIES?!

Ooo awesome we're gonna find out who Jacob is, right? And suddenly, Ben is talking to an empty chair. No big deal, I thought he was nutty. But then this Jacob speaks to Locke..and we get stuff going on in the room..things being bumped...Ben being thrown back..etc etc the list goes on.

And you're left with a "What the hell just happened?" feeling.

At first this whole answering mysteries with other mysteries thing was cool.

Now it's old. Really old.

I am sure TPTB are tired of everyone second guessing them too. I know you are frustrated, a lot of people are, but we now have an end date for the show (2010), so we know when EVERYTHING will be answered. Until then, be patient and grateful for the answers we do receive........isn't 90% of the fun of LOST, not knowing?

I feel like 2010 is just too long to wait... especially IF (I am in denial) John Locke
is gonna die. Without him, the show has nothing to draw me.

Too many mysteries, and each eppy just brings more of them. It was fun for awhile,
but I'm getting tired. I want some answers THIS season, and new mysteries next season.

The thing is, just think of how many answers we HAVE been given this season.

I was on the edge of my seat for the entire episode. The mysteries make me think - they keep me up after its over trying to figure out. This is exactly what I LOVE about the show. I, for one, am not looking forward to 2010 - but I'm loving the ride there and appreciate that the ride will be made better by having a set-in-stone end date.

Any good art leaves some of the interpretation up to the audience. I don't want to be spoon-fed answers, I want the story to unfold.

Just like in life, some of the mysteries, even with the end date, will NEVER be resolved. I wouldn't want it any other way.

I personally like it when more mysteries are introduced. It sort of spoils the fun of speculating when things are answered. I felt let down after learning how Locke was paralyzed after having spent hours of time in thought about it. I think the show is a lot like how real life is. We all encounter many mysteries daily that will probably never be answered (albeit on a much smaller scale than on LOST).

I know they have given us answers...I know.

But seriously...if they are gonna keep up with this kind of stuff..-still- putting off mysteries, at least don't get us hyped up about it. I had a ton of theories on who Jacob really was..and I guess last night I expected (and greatly anticipated) Jacob's identity to be confirmed...not some fraking mystical thing unvieled.

I've never been frustrated more with the show than I was last night. It was an -excellent- episode...it just left me extremely frustrated.

And the fact that we now know that the show is ending in 2010, is no comfort to me.

Don't get me wrong...I love the mysteries. I just hate when they answer one with another...it's as annoying as getting a question answered with a question over and over and over.

We've gotten quite a few answers, but of course for the show to still be interesting we have to have more questions, that's what makes it great. Hopefully all our answers will be given before the show is over!!

I love the way we've been given answers this season. In an EW interview Darlton said that they would continue to provided answers as they go so they don't have to cram them all into the last episode in 2010.

I LIKE the fact that the mysteries are answered with more mysteries. It keeps me thinking! I was disappointed that some of the mysteries were answered so fast, but I am glad we have new ones to ponder...

I love the mysteries. It gives us something to talk about. If we knew everything this place would be dead because no one would ever have anything to talk about. This is why Lost is so great. It's fun that we get to imagine the answers to be how/what we want them to be...for a while.

I LOVE mystery stories very much. I love how Lost has clues that we can follow and I love the theories that everyone comes up with about what is going on. The fact that mysteries are answered with more mystery isn't what gets me so upset, its all the hype around the story TELLING us that we are going to get an answer or that some big reveal is coming and then it just doesn't live up to the hype.

Jack's Tattoes???? Hello???

But mainly its the feeling that they are dragging the story out to make it last longer. By doing this, the story suffers. Now we find out they are going to stretch it out for three more years!! I would MUCH rather they tell a GREAT story in a shorter time than drag it out and have the story suffer.

And finally, with such a long time going by, people can't help but come up with theories, and in my mind, some of the theories that people on this board came up with were MUCH better than what TPTB did. Sooner or later, they will have to reveal what is going on, and with such good work being up out there by the fans, I SERIOUSLY fear that what they give us will not be as good as what the fans came up with...

Without any mysteries Lost would be Swiss Family Robinson meets the Discovery chanels Man vs Wild. I think it might be our need for instant gratification. I need everything and I need it now. I think people would rather read short stories as opposed to novels.

How long did it take to fully tell John's walking story? Two and a half seasons. How long untill Sawyer got to read his letter to the real Sawyer? When did we first hear about Jacob? I know Ben hinted about him when he was held in the hatch. When did we hear the name Jacob? Was it at the end of the second season or the beginning of the third?

I think it depends on what you think a "mystery" is. People that say LOST is answering questions all the time must consider the identity of Roger Workman a mystery, or why Mikhail didn't die. To me that is meaningless. I agree completely with the orginal poster, LOST has not answered any of the MAJOR mysteries about the island, introduced the first season, not even the hatch was explained to my satisfaction. I never considered why their plane crashed as a mystery either. Examples of real mysteries not answered yet:

1. The Monster/security system.
2. The numbers.
3. The sickness that infected Danielles crewmates
4. How the Blackrock got so far inland off the coast.
5. Why can't the island be found or escaped from?
6. Why Walt was kidnapped.
7. Why Locke survived an encounter with the monster, but the co-pilot didn't.
8. Why was flight 815 over the island and so far off course to begin with?
9. Why have the castaways seemed to have all crossed paths prior to the crash?
10. The VOICES.

Thank you. That was pretty much what I meant. And I feel like these little mini-mysteries are taking away from the BIG PICTURE.

I won't say I'm sick and tired of LOST. I love the show. But, in fact, everytime I hate more earing podcasts for example.

Examples:

Paulo and Nikki would be iconic carachters. Yeah, right.

For ep 20, they said: "There will be someone in a Dharma suit, and you'll never imagine who will it be".

Ben ? ........... ok, I guess that wasn't really surprising ..

And more and more .. please, give the truth to the watchers, we already love the show, we don't need you to overreact on what's gonna happen, we'll love it anyway ..

I'm completely and totally not sick and tired of there being more and more mystery - layers of mystery. For everything we know, there's a list of things we don't know. I'm not really sure why people are complaining about this (no offense to any of you) because that is the one trait that has drawn me to this show. With the exception of a few extremely pathetic episodes (that Tricia Tanaka/van one) the show always gives something to audience to ponder. At this point we don't know what is significant and what isn't -- nor do we even know what we are looking for. There's lots of answers but even more questions.. good thing. That's a good show in my book. I don't watch television generally. I watch Lost- I watch House, MD - and the Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic channel (that gives you an idea of my tv expertise).

Listening to podcasts (not my thing); taking what the creative team says seriously - not my thing -- they can say whatever they please and go on to do whatever they please. I enjoy (mostly) reading the posts here - though there's lots of times I question why people watch the show if they don't like how it's being presented. It is a unique show - one I'm glad I watch.

so some of you would rather the show give you the answers and be done with it so that the next 3 seasons will be about the love triangle and aarons first word,or how about Charlie and Claires first fight. The show captivates you, it feeds your need for answers with more questions which I love, if they gave you all the answers why would you come back.

For me the cabin scene was a bit of a jump the shark moment up until Jacob spoke. Some shows like Heroes are perfectly fine shows , introducing answers to mysteries each week while introducing new mysteries. But after the show's over, they don't leave me thinking. Part of the excitement and fun of lost is not knowing large answers. I have a good idea of the answers to half those questions on that list, but seriously smokie, the voices, the numbers(aside from the valenzetti equation). If those were answered exactly, the show just wouldn't be as fun. I feel bad for my unborn children for they won't be able to experience the amazingly awesome ride that is LOST>

To answer your question, no.The mysteries are what propels the show forward. If we only got answers, we would have nothing to talk about, nothing to speculate on. Our posts here would look like this:
So, Jacob was ***. Hmmmm.
So, the 4 toes statue was ***. That's interesting.
So, the island is ***. I never would have guessed.
So, the monster is ***. How novel.

How boring would that be?
At least they are answering questions. We have learned a LOT this season! Sure there more questions, but without new mysteries, the show would come to a grinding halt.

So IMO, bring 'em on!
