What do you think about Clair finding the ring?
Charlie is a hero in more ways than one...

the legacy of the ring was negative.
first, it's a joke with Lord of the Rings.
Secondly, Charlie's drug addict brother gives him the ring then gets sober while charlie gets into junk.
recently Charlie has been "cursed" by Desmond's flashbacks.
Time will tell whether or not the ring was cursed or not.
Don
lostnthesoutheast 05-17-2007, 11:30 AM I was wondering why Charlie didn't give the ring back to his brother when he visited him in Austraila? Didn't he say that he would just keep it safe for him. When Charlie visited Liam, just before the crash, it was Liam who was settled down, clean and sober, with a wife and a child.

Charlie at his brothers home, bald and slobbering...
Charlie: You cant have him, hes my preeeeeeeecious.

Madge 05-17-2007, 12:15 PM Any clue as to who that could be?

Dextor Stratton is a family member of Charlies. I believe it was his grandfather or great grandfather. I cant remember.
Madge 05-17-2007, 12:31 PM Actually yeah, I caught that. I just wondered if there was some other importance to it. Was it going to be another philosopher (er somethin' like that) or will this name come into play later?

yeh it was part of the family linneage. Other than that do we know if there are any historical references to philosophers, scientists, thinkers, rock and rollers named Dexter or Stratton. Typically the names mean something to someone outside of the plot of the show.
I liked how DS also stood for Drive Shaft. I wonder what other DS moments there are. What is Desmond's last name?
Madge 05-17-2007, 12:31 PM Hume.

Ok...that doesnt fit. Still outside of Drive Shaft i wonder if DS might have other significants. Just a thought....

Yea, for some reason "Stratton" just seems familiar to me, but I dont know why.
Laurieg 05-17-2007, 12:43 PM I thought the DS stood for their grand fathers names Dexter Stratton
mikey_mike 05-17-2007, 12:46 PM yeh it does but coincidentally it also stands for Drive Shaft. We are just wondering if there are any other DS references on the show...

I'm reminded of Dorothy Stratton, I think she was the playboy bunny who was killed years ago and her story portrayed by one of the Hemingway girls.
Aside from that I've got nothing.
FaithPrevails 05-17-2007, 02:39 PM On a side note the DS Ring in GH, is the original ring that he wore in Pilot - Part 1. Can be seen when he is talking to Sayid and writing "FATE" on his fingers.
BushRat 05-17-2007, 08:12 PM I don't know why Charlie didn't give the ring to Claire and say "This is a family heirloom. Please hold on to it for me because I don't want to take a chance on losing it in the water."
TK 421 05-17-2007, 08:18 PM Cause he didn't want to do anything that seemed final to indicate he was on a suicide mission and upset Claire?
Caliban2 05-17-2007, 11:43 PM I think the back drop to the DS on the ring is an eight pointed star. If so this gives some contast to the six pointed star also referenced in Lost (108 degrees being the intregal angle on the six pointed star (Star of David)). The eight sided star is a pagan reference to the seasons.
lislyn 05-18-2007, 11:36 AM My husband and I got into an argument about the ring. He insisted that the backdrop was a Star of David, reinforcing the "Lost Tribe" theory. I disagree. Any thoughts?
very-lost 05-18-2007, 12:31 PM Does anyone have a good close up picture? Someone else on another thread described it to having double headed arrows and other features.
Us with "regular" TV and no HD screen cap capability need help :frown:

This is where I remember it from:
Eric "Otter" Stratton: Hi, Eric Stratton, Rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.
Donald "Boon" Schoenstein: Hi, that was Eric Stratton, Rush chairman, he was damn glad to meet you.
