Rose jokes with Bernard that shooting the Others will not be like hunting pheasant in Montgomery County. There are, as far as I know, 18 Montgomery Counties in the US. In:

Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia

I remember the Bernard and Rose scene around Niagara Falls, but cannot remember anything more about their backstory. MoCo NY is not near the Falls.

Anyone have more definitive information on which state this might have been?

Don

They met/lived in Pennsylvania, I believe. So--Pennsylvania seems the likely locale!

Probably in Pennsylvania. Hunting is really big there.

The one in Pennsylvania is like a rich county between Philadelphia and Scranton aka home of The Office. Perhaps a nod to that show? Or just a really common county name?

I live in Montgomery County, Pa! w00t!

My friends and I were all saying how it would be cool if they were referencing the very county we were watching the show in.

As far as relevance, I can give you none.

Probably more states have a Montgomery County than don't.

When I heard it, I automatically thought of Montgomery County, Maryland, an affluent area that borders DC.

I don't know if it matters; if so we'll eventually find out.

Since they are from NY, I thought of Montgomery Co, NY but I like the idea of PA too.

Quite true. I thought of Alabama first, but they're from NY so it'd be a little bit of a stretch.

I'm originally from Montgomery County, TX. No pheasant that I know of there, but we have quail and roadrunners (very confused roadrunners...because MoCo, TX is in a pine forest N of Houston).

There's a Montgomery County here in Maryland as well.

hunting is big hear in alabama but i don't know anyone who hunts pheasent. I also don't think MoCo is a prime place for hunting either.

We know that Rose and Bernard met in NY.
We can also surmise that Rose and Bernard traveled a lot. Rose implyed that they flew often, because "every time" they flew, she wore Bernard's ring on a chain around her neck.

I'm going with Montgomery County, NY... since that's the closest to them, it makes the most sense (if it were PA, they would have just said PA).

And Rose says, in the first episode, that she lives in the Bronx, New York.
