I laughed outloud when Rose said she liked Jack since he got back..."You're almost and optimist...

And then Sayid reminding Jack that he is the self proclaimed leader..and it was time for him to lead.

Seemed to give Jack some perspective..no?

I loved that, too!

But if you think about it, Jack has been pretty much a pessimist his entire life (no thanks to dad!)

That is what made it so funny...she said it so cooly and low key...great delivery.

Jack needed to be taken down a few notches. Jack thinks his way is the ONLY way.

I really liked Rose's lines to Jack, especially, to paraphrase, "I like you better since you came back"

I like Rose and Sayid, period. One of their best traits is they say what they think, and don't mince words. Good on them!

Then she laid into Bernard. They're on a deserted island and she's still telling him how to dress!

I always though Jack was pushed into the leadership role and kicked against the goad of it right up until this epi....Sayid actually seemed to be helping Jack accept the burden imo....and I thought both Rose and Sayid were glad to see the Jack they knew back....I have always loved Rose and Jack interactions....she has always taken the micky out of Jack (I love it)

She sure did tonight...

Sayid and Jack have always had the same ends in mind..they just have different means. That showed up strong tonight. Jack needed to lead the LOSTies to safety and just needed a little reminder to that.

That made me LOL, too. Finally! A voice of reason! Sometimes it takes someone older and wiser to get someone as head strong as Jack to reflect on their behavior. And she didn't have to beat him up to do it!

to be a leader you have to believe what you're doing is right. to be an effective leader you need also be able to convince others that you're right and to follow you.

And there's a difference between a good leader and a leader like Stalin or Hitler. Jack thinks he can rule his people like a dictatorship, and he's got an attitude of angry, undermining disrespect to the very people he's trying to save that makes me want to punch him in the face.

If Jack doesn't start cooling down and listening to other people openly and not just grudgingly, then he needs to just die or go away, IMHO. These people don't deserve a "leader" like that. They need to be able to think for themselves and have the right to make their own choices.

It sure was nice to see Rose & Bernard again. And giving some much needed comic relief IMO to the ep.

I think that Jack has needed help in accepting the role of leader too. As Hurley told Sawyer, "I don't think Jack wanted to be leader either. Sucks to be you!" Glad Sayid is willing to step up.

I hadn't realized how much I missed Rose and Bernard until the knot tying scene. Hilarious! Then, her actually questioning him was great.

You and I aren't watching the same show. Why would Jack need to be taken down a few notches when his self-esteem is at rock bottom?

Jack did need Sayids reminder.....it stengthened Jacks resolve to take on the burden of leadership...within their interactions I felt that they both acknowledged each others strengths...you could see both of them recognising that this was war and that there was no time for differences of opinion....each had a role to play....

Jack and Sayid make a good team because they compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses. And Rose is a delight - she would make a good leader too! I loved her line - "you're almost an optimist." Hilarious! It was good to see Jack set straight. He's been in need of it for a while.

That was a great scene. One of my favorite things about it was that Jack actually did seem to listen to them, and as the original post put it, it seemed to give him some perspective.

All in all, I thought Jack was back in fine form in the episode, doing what he does best and taking charge, but its always nice to see him listen to others and take their opinions seriously.

I loved that scene too, it made me laugh. Go Rose! I absolutely loved Sayid and Jack last night. Sayid is just what Jack needed to take the next step in becoming the prophesied "leader, great man". My two favorite alpha-males kicking ***. Can't wait until next week and will very, very, very, very upset if they both don't come out of this war breathing.

So happy to see Rose and Bernard back and Rose is one of the few people that treats Jack as an equal and not a superior. Sayid once again proved why he is so valuable to the Losties and to the show. He is not impressed easily and will call a spade a spade. Good for them to take egomaniacal jack down a peg or two.

I got the impression Rose and Sayid were supporting Jack in the difficult and unwanted role of leadership, sometimes I wonder if I just get the wrong end of the stick - am I watching a show about likeable characters in peril or am I meant to want to see them all fail?

Loved Rose again. She has always talked to Jack, and everyone else, straight from the hip.
Sayid gave him the nudge about not being so focused on revenge against the Others and putting priority on getting everyone rescued and safe.
I also loved it when Sayid said he'd be happy to make a sincere apology later.

By the way, I think we have cleared up now that Jack has not joined up with the Others. He sure wants to blow them all to hell. Just like he always did.

Earlier in the episode Jack said "for 90 days I've been asked to make decisions for the entire camp. There. I just made one." He didn't seize power. He reluctantly stepped up back in Season 1 when no one else would, when people naturally came to him for everything, and when he couldn't say no anymore.

It is not that I want to see Jack fail. I can take him or leave him. It is just it is hard to root for a character that says things like (about the Others coming) " I hadn't decided what to do about it yet". Jack does well in the eladesrhip role, but as the show has progressed the character has been written as being increasingly condescending to his fellow Losties. It was nice to hear Rose question him "Can you gaurantee me" that Bernard would live. She wont just do what he says because he is Jack and he expected her to. Rose challenges Jack, as does Sayid.

I agree that they support him in that position, but they also let him know that it is not just his way or the highway. In order to be an effective leader, jack needs people like this to take him down a few notches and remind him that sometimes his way is not the best way.
