View Full Version : Is Sayid an Other?

He forcefully switched places with Jack, and he came up with the idea of infiltrating the Looking Glass. Ben may have known this all along, and used Alex and Ralph as a signal to Sayid to lead the Losties into a trap.

I just saw the episode once but the feeling that i had was the opposite....that Sayid is one of the few i still have confidence in. I still think that jack is hiding something, same for juliet....and Rousseau involved in all this sounds weird to me too...i even doubt about Desmond...lol I mean he convinced charlie he has to go, he has to die...and at the last minute he wanted to go to the looking glass? for what joining the others maybe? What happened when he was in the hatch? and when the hatch exploded? I don't know i love the character but i doubt about him now.

Ralph? Haha, that would be a funny name for an other.

Karl is his name, and no, of ALL people, Sayid is one of us.

I've always liked Sayid, thought he was solid. But something seems fishy. Ben must know that Alex is not reliable, yet he almost wants her to hear his change in plans. When she runs off, no Others follow her or Karl (not Ralph, duh). The 815ers are left without a plan, until Sayid suggests shooting the dynamite. He then persuades Jack to let him stay. Then there's the unexpected ambush of Charlie. Could those two girls have been expecting Sayid, who came up with the idea? Finally, surely Sayid would have thought of merely cutting the cable or blowing it up.

I get suspicious about Desmond too often and his insistence on Charlie's death makes me wonder too.

I think it's been established who is an other and who isn't.

If he was, then why send Juliette to spy on the Losties?

I agree -- no way Sayid is an Other. He still is the only Lostie who will stand up to Jack and demand answers from Juliet and him.

He's a good guy through and through. Its Jack I'm not trusting. I still get the vibe he is hiding something or holding some information back.

I think that Juliet is playing Jack, I think he is clueless and he trusts her too much.

I definitely don't think Sayid is an other. I'm worried about his fate though. He's gotten so little screen time lately and then he stands in place of Jack in what he obviosly considers to be a dangerous task. I'll be crushed if we lose the only guy I trust!

There is no way he is an other. He is emerging as the leader of the group though...

I guess I'm playing devil's advocate, as I really like Sayid as well. Does not the preview for next week show Jack and his group captured again? Refresh my memory, didn't Sayid have something to do with their last ambush? And, Sayid would not kill Mikhail.

OK, i really hoepe that you're kidding. Or maybe you're just a very new Lost fan and missed his entire relationship with Shannon, the tourture of Sawyer...

Or maybe Vincent is an Other

I'm worried too. Sayid has not gotten much screen time this year and doesn't have a compelling story line going at the moment (ditto for Jin. Sun's pregnancy worries could continue without him). So I think he (and Jin) may be vulnerable. Hope not--they need Sayid's skills and his instincts.

Sayid is the only one who has kept his senses about him for the entire show. And as for him planning shooting the explosives and wanting to stay and do it himself, he was in the Iraqi Republican Guard, so he's a good shot and knows a thing or two about explosives.

All of the people who crashed onto the island are really others trying to fool the others into thinking they are not others at all.

There... Mystery solved! Now we can all go home and have a nice bowl of soup. ;)

No way is Sayid a other. No offense but this is just silly. He did not want to kill Mikhail as he wanted to torture him and get info from him. He probably did not think that cutting the cable on the new hatch would do any good since the map/drawing said that it was a anchor cable. I guess cutting that would maybe make it drift out to sea or crash on the shore who knows about that. I do not think blowing it up would have done any good either since its underwater. Saying Sayid is a other is like saying that Hurley is a other since he got captured but then released instead of being stuck in a cage. Sayid may have plans backfire but I think he is one person you could rely on. In fact I kind of feel the same about sawyer he may steal your toothpaste but in a crunch he would cover your back and do his best to not let anything happen to you as then he could not steal any more toothpaste from you :)
Also I think Jack is just thinking with his smaller head since he has his hottie around. I think Juliet wants off the island and is playing both sides to see who can get her off first. I think she has a thing for Jack and hopes that it will be him that she leaves with but if the others can get her off somehow then thats the route she will take.

It's not fair to blame sayid for that! It was a good plan, the problem was jack revealing the truth during the way because of the "gun doesn't work" scene. It was all mickael's fault who change the destination and lie to them... and if Sayid hadn't discover mickael was lying...no one would have...so...you can blame Sayid for torturing people but not for that. At least that's my opinion.

I think we can trust Juliet for now. How would she have known any more about the Looking Glass? It makes sense that she only "heard" of it, not that there were any people inside. I'd trust Sayid first, of course.

Also, what is Ben doing with Alex? What's the use of keeping someone around who hates you?

Actually it implies that Ben confronts them but not captures them.

The preview does show the shooters, Jin, Bernard and Sayid on their knees, hands behind their backs with Others all around them with guns.

I think not. Lost carries on with misdirections; remember in Season 2, Ana Lucia's group and Mr.Eko was considered to be The Others when we first met them and they turned out to be the tail section survivors.

We should also perhaps bear in mind that the term 'Other' is so generic (Damn you Rousseau!) and that even within the 'Others' they comprise; 'Natives', ex-Dharma, ex-Military, Civilians and seeming hitmen like Pryce and co. I guess as Ben said, not all of them have made a "commitment" like he has..

I just think that the term is so lose and we've even seen the likes of Jack and Locke 'join' the Others at various points.

We don't know that Sayid was even on the plane.

For that matter, we don't know that Rose, Claire, Charlie, Kate, or even Arnst were on the plane.

So are you saying that you don't believe that the things shown in flashbacks are true? I'm not saying that you would be totally wrong, just making sure I understand you.

i kinda had this thought after the brig

http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=78293

I love Sayid and think it would be a good twist and very unexpected if he was.

We also never saw where he was in the others camp after Alex got his bag until Juliet brought him to Jack and Kate. We didnt actually see where she collected him from.

This could just be me being paranoid however.

Obviously you don't have a teenage daughter.

Of all the 815'ers, Sayid is the last one to suspect being an Other. For a lot of his life, he was on the wrong side of a conflict (as an "interrogator"), and he knows which side of his current conflict is the right side.

ok ok yes i have offically "lost" mind and began quoting myself, but after reading replies after my original reply and starting a thread on ben and kelvin, i am starting to think there is a good chance that Syaid can be an other seeing that Kelvin (who either survived the purge by the natives or was an other himself) was on the island and we really dont know how he got there and when....Syaid could be an other "book club reader"
lol
but still some of the things he has done tell me other wise..iono..im fn confused...
