And why wasn't he the third shooter? He told Sayid about Carl, but what is his role in this whole situation. It seems he and Hurley (the man behind the power) have just faded away since Jack returned.

Jack came back and even though the group had a stock pile of reasons not to trust him, they just all fell in line. He's got Rousseau working for him, Desmond and Charley, taking on the Looking Glass. Sayid, Jin and Bernard are blowing up the dynamite. The rest of the losties are headed for the radio tower with Jack leading them.

Hurley could not go with Charley and who knows where Sawyer is? Perhaps because those two aren't responsible for anything they will end up coming to the rescue.

Could have been that they wanted a strong guy to go with the girls - one who had experience with the Others - remember, Jack wasn't planning on going with them initially. The great "leader" had to be told, once again, to act like one.

And yeah, what is UP with people just falling in line with someone who didn't think it wise to tell anyone what was coming, and just decided to solve it for them himself? Is this a monarchy? Like none of them might have any good ideas to contribute. I think from this ep it proved that they DID. Maybe if he had told them before, they could have been prepared ON TIME.

I think I know why the writers had Jack keep it to himself - so we'd all think he had "turned", but I don't think that route panned out well once we found out he didn't - just made him look like an arrogant *beep*.

As for Sawyer's role in the finale, I can't even begin to hazard a guess.

The most likely reason is that the writers want him to be with Jack and the rest of the survivors, not back at the camp.

You'd think Sayid would've wanted Desmond to stick around as one of the shooters, seeing as how he has military experience.

seriously, bernard as one of the shooters? sawyer, and desmond both have way better experience. so does kate for that matter. i mean form what i hear sawyer and hurley both have action in teh finale which is good but still...underrated again. (and not to mention, why not just take half the bullets out of the new gun and put some in sawyer's unloaded gun? then you'd have four shooters instead of three. DUH!)

This episode felt very out of sorts to me. Last week I was so happy when everyone finally confronted Jack and Juliet. But then 2 sentences later that was the end of it and now they're all following him like nothing ever happened. The writers went out of their way to make Jack act weird the past few weeks and now we're just supposed to forget about it? The finale better involve Juliet betraying Jack or Jack betraying the Losties or I'm really going to feel cheated.

LOL, come on, that was obviously to build suspense. I don't think Jack was acting out of sorts at all, really, except for the one scene where Kate confronted him with the info about Naomi, and that's just because we didn't know the information HE had.

I seriously think neither of them is going to do any betraying.

I think Jack playing football was pretty out of sorts. I'd never feel like a pick-up game with people I considered my enemies. Even if I was tired of being cramped in an aquarium.

Back to Sawyer: Jack should have used Sawyer for conman strategy. I'm just hoping that Sawyer is supposed to lead the women to some safe place and he takes them somewhere completely different without telling Jack.

Since this thread about Sawyer somehow ended up being about Jack, I'll go back to topic: How come Sawyer isn't one of the sharpshooters? He took down an Other really well in LTDA - a moving target. His new sponsor Hurley saw Sawyer take down the Other and could have brought that to Sayid's attention as he was recruiting the sharpshooters.

I've said elsewhere that Sawyer not being one of the shooters really doesn't make much sense to me either, especially given his close relationships with Sayid and Jin.

However...since they're going to be killing people next week, Bernard since he's not on the show much would probably be an easy guy to take out, and plus in the preview we see the three shooters have been captured. Maybe Sawyer leads a rescue mission?

...cuz other people stepped up, Id say. It doesnt always have to be the fan faves that do the dirty work. This way Bernard gets some screen time.. :)

I've got a better question:

did one of the Beastie Boys write this episode?

hehe

I'm guessing that with Desmond out with Charlie and Sayid on the beach that having Sawyer help Jack protect the group going to the radio tower and to still be around to help protect the group if things didn't go well on the beach was a logical choice. Also, Sawyer is so screwed up right now that maybe Sayid could sense that he's distracted and not the best man for the job at the moment.
