View Full Version : Claire let Charlie go
bubblyone 05-17-2007, 08:42 AM Why didnt Claire notice there was something amiss with Charlie and des going off together on the button pushing mission. All she said to him was that it was dangerous.
I'm in Australia and have just watched the ep you guys have but on my telly as I type is Par Avion. I had forgotten that Des told Claire about his visions.
If I was Claire I wouldnt have let Charlie out of my sight, or I would have at least asked if this was about another of Des's flashes.
I did love the Clair/Charlie scenes though...they are sooo sweet together. I'm a romantic at heart, though, on lost I dont like the romance side of it, but my heart melts when these 2 are together.
lostlocke 05-17-2007, 08:50 AM I think that Claire is definitely worried, but she didn't seem to scared did she?! I would have at least asked alot of questions before he left. She does know about Desmond's flashes, but to be fair, she doesn't know what Desmond told Charlie about this recent flash. If she knew that Charlie was planning to sacrifice himself for her and Aaron I think she would have something to say about it.
RodimusBen 05-17-2007, 09:04 AM Well it's ultimately his decision. If Charlie made the choice to face death, to sacrifice himself, that should be respected instead of fought tooth and nail until his bravery became meaningless.

I agree but I was just surprised that Claire didnt say anything. In the real world (and yes, I know this is lost...LOL) after knowing Des saw Charlie dying from the lightning and drowning, you'd get a little sus when they went off together.
Captain_Falafel 05-17-2007, 09:16 AM I'm a big PB&J shipper and I was very disappointed in Claire. Rose really showed Claire up when she vowed to stay with Bernard on his dangerous mission, but Claire just let Charlie go. Claire might have been worried for Charlie, but she really seemed fine in her last scene, not even noticing Charlies ring that he had left.
I'm sad to say it, but I think this is unrequited love on Charlies part.
Dezdmona 05-17-2007, 09:41 AM I think Claire has come to trust Charlie and doesn't feel the need to monitor him all the time.
Their relationship has matured into one of respect.
Charlie loves Clarie enough to desire her freedom from the Island and sacrifice his life to secure it.
As much as I love Rose and her faith, she's gotta keep an eye on Bernard cause he's relatively inept (bless his heart) and can't take care of himself without her (or someone) looking out for him.
piscescat 05-17-2007, 09:46 AM I think Claire is concerned for Charlie, but she also respects his wishes to do this mission. I was sad though when we got the closeup of the ring after everyone had taken off for the radio tower.
pacejunkie 05-17-2007, 09:46 AM Yeah, so much for "we'll get through this together". But Claire is worried for Aaron, and I think she is leaning on Charlie right now for assurance that they'll be safe. They go back and forth like that. Last time was Claire's turn to be there for Charlie and this time it's switched again. But she was worried, you can see her holding back tears and trying not to lose it when he promised he'd be okay and not to worry. Charlie was putting on such a brave face that I don't think Claire realized the level of danger he was really facing or that he knew what would happen from Desmond.
rtteachr 05-17-2007, 09:52 AM I think she trust Desmond to protect Charlie. She knows about the flashes and that Desmond has saved Charlie several times already. She saw Desmond in the background and had to know something was going on.
AllAboutSceve 05-17-2007, 09:56 AM I agree. I was a little bummed that Claire wasn't at least asking a few more questions after seeing Charlie and Des together or that there was no lines of "why does it have to be you" or "don't do this".....but I was thinking more of how I would've been reacting.
Claire's been through so much and I think she's developed into a very strong person. I'm sure that she's got a lot of emotions going on in there, but maybe she's just not showing them on the outside. Who knows, maybe she feels that would upset Charlie more to see her crying or breaking down?
I think she also trusts Charlie and has faith. Sometimes, no matter what's supposed to happen, if someone you love and trust tells you things will be fine, you believe things really will be fine no matter what.
(Could've used a few seconds longer on that kiss though ;) )

When Aaron reached up and touched Charlies face and Charlie walked away, I was yelling at the telly...'dont forget the ring Charlie' and was quite upset when he didnt give it to Claire, but then when we saw it still in the crib I almost cried. I hope its still there if the losties ever get to go back to their beach camp
RodimusBen 05-17-2007, 08:05 PM I would never have expected Claire to go with Charlie. Unlike Rose, she has a child to look after. As much as she likes Charlie, I feel she should and does consider Aaron her first priority.
TK 421 05-17-2007, 08:39 PM I loved Charlie in this episode and thought it was amazingly convincing acting, I had a lump in my throat much of the episode. But Claire? Man I just can't get past the feeling that she is so indifferent towards Charlie! I thought all that would change after Par Avion but where's the passion and love for Chawlie?
Michelle67 05-17-2007, 10:13 PM I think that Claire was concerned about Charlie. She knew that it could be dangerous -- I just don't think she knew how dangerous. She really did seem upset that Charlie hadn't told her that he had volunteered for the mission.I mean if she really knew what Desmond had seen I think she would have thrown a fit to have Charlie stay.
Desmond has saved Charlie time and time again now and Claire knows it. I don't think she would think that if Charlie knew he was going to die that he would just walk into it. I think she's assuming that Charlie's safe because Des can see his future and if Desmond saw Charlie die then Charlie wouldn't be going.
She would have definitely reacted differently if she'd known the truth.

I agree with you. I think it's the same reason why she didn't seem concerned that he was gone on the camping trip for two days. I think she sees Desmond as Charlie's protector and that as long as Des is with him, he will foresee trouble and Charlie will be safe. She has no idea Charlie is willingly going to his death for her. She would never allow it if she knew, which is exactly why Charlie didn't tell her. It's an incredible act of self sacrifice on Charlie's part.
